One of the dumbest things by Saba and Spalletti last year was loaning out VQ. He would have been a great depth player.
He had problems with Spalletti, some said they fought and Spalletti didn't want him in the team. From what I hear, he had a good campaign in France last year, so his market value should be decent.

I think Defrel could turn out to be a great signing. He's been in Italy his entire career, knows the league, wouldn't need time to settle in like Dzeko did, could play either as a striker or on the wing. Also, EDF will know very well how to utilize him to the best of his ability. And he's going to fill a homegrown quota to boot. 20m may seem steep, but it wouldn't have been that high if he didn't have 16 goals and 5 assists last season. This should be a very good signing for Roma by all accounts.
These are Defrel's numbers: His first real season with Foggia (Third division) he scored 4 goals in 24 games. Then his second season (Serie B) he scored 3 goals in 30 games. Second season with Cesena 4 goals in 44 games. The season Cesena was in Serie A he had 9 goals in 36 games. He has played for Sassuolo 2 seasons. The first one he scored 8 goals in 35 apps and this last season 15 goals in 38 games. To me that's the only one which qualifies as being a good season, and even then is not that great for a 26 year old striker. Maybe he is a "late bloomer" and he will prove me wrong. Nothing would make me happier than see him turn into an outstanding striker who eventually benches Dzeko. But I am not hopeful based on his one good season.
Defrel looked like a beast even at Cesena. If I remember correctly he played on the wing most of the time so you shouldn't judge his career stats as a striker. Defrel was always a talented player, he just recently added goalscoring to his game.
Defrel has played mostly as a CF or a AM / second ST at Cesena. He was more of creative player prior to last year. I don't know if he can he be a consistent goal scorer but I really like him for his work off the ball, his ability to take on player and his passing. Like I've said, great player to have but I'm not sure he's worth 20 mil. I'll say this up front, I like the moves especially if we get Mahrez but we really lack goal scorers up front. Mahrez, Perotti and Defrel are not real goal scorers so that leaves it up to Dzeko and SES. I know nothing about Under and as a 20 year old just coming from Turkey I'm not counting on him to be a big scorer

Totti had 3 goals and 7 assists last season. If Defrel can somehow manage to do better than that then he's an upgrade to what we had before. And if he puts pressure on Dzeko to keep firing then even better.
About Rudiger... even if we completely ignore the feelings of the fans - you are insulting your team-mates with whom you've spent together the last two seasons and presumably made friendships with. I don't get it. Some players are just beyond ridiculous when they say such things.
I don't necessarily disagree with Toni's statement, but he didn't need to compare Roma to Chelsea like that.
