That being said, we're at home, the game kicks off an hour earlier than normal (think heat) and Diaz is back. Our defense will obviously be the biggest concern with the absences/injuries but we really need to win this for various reasons. Mainly to show that we're still the big dog in the league and to get the swagger back at "Fortress Frisco."
Just to make a wild guess: Canadian TV? Anyway, I'll provide the weekly "This is where Colman finally breaks through!" optimism.
You called it. Thankfully, holding the lead all game kept him on the bench. Fortunately, Lamah is playing like a boss now, Maxi is Maxi, and Diaz is rounding back into form. The latter had a couple of passes today that made me exclaim how much I had missed him.
This definitely felt like the FCD we had been missing the last month or so. Maxi is capable of anything this season and Lamah is finding the net now (he could still score so many more). Get the defense back together and there's no one I'm scared of in this league.
He said in an interview before the game, he was trying for Tuesday. I think that was the best we've looked all season. Altidore did nothing. Bradley didn't do a whole lot, mainly watching faster FCD players dribble past him. Boxscore says we were outshot 15-6. Sure didn't feel like it.
I'm just going to place this thought here, and we can revisit it in December. This team is largely tagged as singularly dependent on Mauro Diaz when it comes to their chances to win MLS Cup 2017. I'm very much starting to believe that name, now, needs to be changed to Maxi Urruti. There just is not a player on this team who tries, efforts and converts with the regularity of Maxi. If he gets hurt or goes into an extended slump, the team is screwed.
Mostly agree. Watching Maxi play is like a kid is in the stands with a Playstation controller playing real life FIFA with his finger on the "sprint" button. He just goes and goes and goes. His finishing is deadly too. That goal was fantastic. He (and Mauro to be fair) grabbed the Open Cup final by the scruff of the neck and willed us to victory when we couldn't easily fallen into the "OMG, here we go again!" Still can't believe Portland let him go but it couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch of assholes.
We had to leave at halftime, because somebody was (a) getting too much sun on the east side, and (b) wasn't the least bit interested except when FCD scored. She did love the mister, though (pic is after she unintentionally intimidated all the other kids into giving her some dancing space).
