The 07/08 games were the Beckham games. He didn't show up for the 2007 game and the crowd was nowhere near the announced. The 08 crowd was a big crowd. The 1996 game was the inaugural game. I can't recall why the 03/04 games were that large. I'm pretty sure at least one was a doubleheader - probably the Chivas/Club America game I recall. Not sure about the other. At the end of 04, as part of the Olympic Gold Medal/Farewell Tour (Hamm/Foudy/Fawcett), the Wizards played a doubleheader with the USWNT. (KC played LA). I think that doubleheader only drew around 16k
I was at the 2003 game against San Jose (the only time I have ever been there). There was some kind of promotion with a supermarket chain where people could buy an upper-level ticket for super-cheap (maybe free?) if they spent a certain amount on groceries. Landon Donovan scored a hat trick that night, the first in franchise history for San Jose.
Right. And the other game was the book reading thing. School kids signed up to read a certain number of books and when they did, they all got vouchers for their family to go to the same Wizards game.
SKC would add seats above both the side the camera faces and the Cauldron. I asked Robb in a q&a if the SKC expansion could be done in stages, and he said yes. So there's a chance they could just add an ~2-3k deck above the cauldron and save the larger east side upper deck for later. Though I'd image the roof would level with it and might look a little awkward over the east side until it's filled in.
7,139 at Toronto Wolfpack vs. Gloucestershire All Golds in the English rugby league 3rd division today. Toronto won 62-10. All Golds' last home attendance by comparison was 101. - Sorry, wrong sport but if 7,000 Canadians show up for this standard of rugby maybe there's hope for CPL.
I am really not sure what Wolfpack attendance has to do with soccer attendance in Toronto....but it should be noted that this is, hardly, their first home match.....they have now played 6 (so getting near that, for some reason, magical 10th match) and have averaged 6,581 in those matches...the range has been pretty narrow (low of 5,646 and a high of 7,236) in their 9,600 home venue of Lamport....that would suggest there is a core support there and that is likely to grow as they progress up the Rugby ladder.
What I meant, I guess, is that they turn out to watch 3rd division rugby league, which is really bad, I've watched some, they'll turn out to watch anything.
but, if you are a rugby fan, it is the highest form of your sport currently available....not sure soccer fans will be able to look at CPL and say the same thing.
Dear Sirs: Piss on the Wolfpack! Everyone knows the new team should have gone to the city of Guelph! Because of the authentic, organic, grassroots effort put forth by the Guelph rugby fans, they deserve it. If marketed correctly and done right I'm sure Guelph would be a huge success. I dare say they could easily draw about 5,000 fans on any Wednesday night; which wouldn't be bad for a mid-week match. Most sincerely, --Big Rugby dot com
In one of the few times in two decades that the Kraft's spent some money proactively was to handle this situation at the old Foxboro stadium. They created cut outs of the 4 corners of the stands that could be removed for soccer games and then put back in for all other events. you can see it here in one corner http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com/mls/newengland/Foxboro.jpg
That was a requirement for the 1994 World Cup. Was the decision to do that made before or after Kraft bought the Patriots in 1992? I don't know when the World Cup venues were finalized. The Cotton Bowl did something similar for 1994, and the Rose Bowl had already done the same thing in order to host soccer in the 1984 Olympics.
yes you are right! I forgot that it was done before MLS started. I forget when the stadiums were selected but I think it was after Kraft purchased the Pats.
That's not when they were selected though. The final 9 stadiums choices came years later. If memory serves there was close to 20 stadiums on the original list.
I've played rugby in the past and would consider myself a casual. Right now, Wolfpack is drawing 6-7K for completely uncompetitive matches. I actually told my friends I only want to go to 1 more this season (been to only 1 so far) as they really aren't that interesting. But I (and I think a lot of people like me) would go next year when they're in Div 2. Right now, there's a view that Wolfpack are hurting the Argos attendance more than anything else. A little off topic but I'd figure I'd add my two cents.
well, if you add the wolfpack average attendance to the Argos average attendance you nearly get the Argos back to what they were getting before they moved to BMO Field That said, it is not clear to me that people at Wolfpack games are traditional CFL fans.
As already noted in the US Open Cup thread - 15,016 in Kansas City for the quarterfinal vs FC Dallas.
Despite the Revs playing at a 4,100 seat stadium, I think we will see an average attendance record for a quarterfinal round...
They should use median as the Stanford and Olympic Stadium attendances have not been averaged out over a whole season yet.
