This happens when you don't have fit players and lot of games in a season and managers opt to play them all in all games other wise he fired...Replacements for these defenders is tough for me..

Although Osama Howsavi's participation for the match against Australia is doubtful due to injury he sustained during training session of Al Hilal prior to meeting Estaghlal Khozestan in Asian Champions League (which also prevented him from playing in that match); but still you have 5 days left for this crucial encounter in which, he might or might not get fit. Hence, his replacement can and would or should i say 'should' be Abdullah Al Hafiz... Now, Al Hafiz has this glorious opportunity to showcase his talent. He is I believe less than 27 years of age, and he very well can be the replacement for Osama Howsavi not only in this match but for all future games. If Saudi Arabia plays him while Osama is benched and Saudi comes out with a positive result i.e., not losing the match, then this will be beginning of a new era for Saudi Defender and Saudi National Team...

Also, Australian players are tall, very Tall when compared to Saudi players average height hence, Saudi Arabia should apply the game tactics which Al Hilal applied against Al Taraji of Tunisia when Al Hilal defeated Al Taraji in Arab Champions Cup Final in Riyadh 1-0 i.e., play the ball at Ground Level, not at High / Head Level since It is extremely difficult for Tall Players (specially Goal Keepers) to dive down at ground level for the ball. As it is difficult for fat person to standup from laying on the ground similarly, it is difficult for Tall person to dive on the ground for getting the ball at ground / grass root level... So, Saudi Arabia should keep the ball at ground level as much as they can... this will build pressure on opposing players specially Goal Keeper since the Goal Keeper is very good in collecting ball at height / head level. For example, both 2 goals scored by Saudi Arabia in the first match against Australia were at Ground level which the Aussie goal keeper miserably failed at stopping.

Also, the Aussie goal keeper is slightly weaker on his right hand side i.e., he mostly concede goals on his right hand side while also loses concentration when the ball is minus / crossed in to his penalty box from his right hand side so Saudi should try to exploit this weakness.

So Australia meets KSA tomorrow which I call as deciding fixture who will step into Russia along with almost qualified Japan.
KSA team has been in Australia for a longtime which is a good sign and hope they have settled down in the environment. The task will be not easy for KSA since most of the first team regulars recently completed big games in domestic and international cups will be fatigued big time..Hilal and Ahli players had there recent outings till ACL last 16 matches..The midfield looks good with introduction of new players but its on coach call who he selects in playing 11.
Australia on other hand are as usual favorites will be afresh ..They have not impressed so far in the campaign but playing home is always advantage..

I am expecting a tight draw or unlikely win for KSA..

Salem Al Dowsari justified his selection in the national team by scoring the goal under pressure against Australia... However, why Nasser Al Shamrani was not played by the Coach ?... He could have had introduced Nasser Al Shamrani along with Sahlawi soon after Aussie's 3rd goal...

I was also thinking of another point i.e., Saudi Arabia have miserably failed thus far to gain respectable points against big Teams (Australia and Japan) i.e., out of 3 games played against the big team (9 points), Saudi Arabia only managed to get 1 point and lost 8 points... And Saudi Arabia are still lucky to survive among them or atleast with Australia even on points i.e., 16 points, where Japan has a game in hand against Iraq.

Saudi's dream of reaching the finals is dampen by the lost against Aussie...

Let's see what the final table look like after 13 June 2017 since when Japan and UAE win their respective matches, more pressure will be on Saudi Arabia as UAE will really give Saudi Arabia a run for the money when both teams meet in Abu Dhabi on 29.Aug.2017...

Japan drew against the UAE, which means the group is still wide open.

I still can't believe Abdullah Al Zouri can still walk into the National Team whenever he likes. He literally only played ONE full match this season yet still gets NT call ups!!

    I'm an idiot who can't read. :(

Since UAE also drew with Thailand I got them mixed up. Thanks for the correction (and thanks for tripping up Japan!)

Any idea who is going to be striking partner of Sahlawi upfront ?... Will Nasser Al Shamrani get a call for the national team even tough he had not kicked a ball despite being registered for Al Hilal as of date... While Hazzazi is out of contention since He did not find a club to secure his position in the national team... Saudi Arabia really needs Al Shamrani to be in the squad while needs to find a young talented strikers very fast... Ahmed Al Fraidy can also be given a call back in the national team...

Nawaf is mostly likely out after he is reporting heart issues. Hazza Al Hazza might step in to replace him or any other Hilal or Nasser player will work...

Sahlawi was the worst player in the match against UAE earlier tonight... He missed a golden opportunity to score when Salman Al Faraj gave him a through pass and Sahlawi was only required to hit the ball in the net to score the goal but yet he chocked... Nasser Al Shamrani would have had been much better choice than Sahlawi if Nasser were to play entire 90 minutes...

Anyhow, this is a complete wake-up call for Saudi Team, and Saudi Team should now go with 2 strikers in every match, and specially in the last match against Japan in Jeddah (which is now a must-win game for Saudi Arabia)...

AFC dealt Saudi Arabia another blow by appointing the Uzbekistani referee in the all important Saudi Arabia vs Japan game to be played in Jeddah on Sept. 5, 2017... :(

The Uzbek referee appointed does not have good history in Saudi matches as he and / or his team on many occasions gave or took decisions that were not in favour of Saudi (specially in 50/50 cases) and above all, went against Saudi or were bias. For example, a disallowed goad of Saudi Arabia against Iraq which in my opinion was a legitimate goal. The linesman took the decision against Saudi and did not call it a goal for Saudi.

Japan is under no pressure in this match and it's the Saudi who are under pressure to win by some goals margin but this referee appointment will make it tough and in fact worst for Saudi's mission in this upcoming match.

Also, in all likelihood, it will not be a surprise that Australia will beat Thailand but it will be on Australia on how many goals they score against Thailand hence the Uzbek referee might make it difficult for Saudi Arabia to get the goals required by Saudi Arabia to overtake Australia in the standings (if Saudi is going to win) since Uzbekistan is likely to be the 3rd team in the other Group and the Uzbek referee would love to see Uzbekistan play Saudi Arabia in the play-offs than playing against mighty Asian Champions Australia who is much stronger team to play against by any opponent.

It will be a miracle if Saudi becomes 2nd in the group since Saudi is not expected to even beat Japan in the first place while scoring so many goals against Japan is not possible since Japan is too strong to even concede a solitary goal. Though Saudi Team will give it the big shot that they can ... But Australia has a pretty much upper hand in the final match day. Besides, Thailand is not expected to have any effect whatsoever to give a result that can boost Saudi Arabia chances to qualify directly. Thailand will be walked-over by Australia very very easily.

According to official FIFA documents set in place for FIFA World Cup 2018 qualification, 2 yellow card in previous round carry forward to next round of the same competition. This implies that 2 cautions received in Qualification Round 2 is carry forward to Round 3 hence, Tommy Rogic was ineligible to play in the match against Saudi Arabia in October last year which ended in a 2-2 draw and as law stands, that match will be forfeited (if claimed by Saudi Arabia) and will be awarded 3-0 victory to Saudi Arabia - if Saudi Arabia claims.

According to below 2 links, following is the article articulating the law:

    http://resources.fifa.com/mm/docume...5_15-00638_101_en_en_june2016_gsa_neutral.pdf

    http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/affederation/administration/50/02/75/discoinhalte.pdf

    Law 17 Caution
    1. A caution (yellow card) is a warning from the referee to a player during a match to sanction unsporting behaviour of a less serious nature (cf. Law 12 of the Laws of the Game).
    2. Two cautions received during the same match incur an expulsion (indirect red card) and, consequently, automatic suspension from the next match (cf. art. 18 par. 4). The two cautions that incurred the red card are rescinded.
    3. If a player receives a caution in two separate matches of the same FIFA competition, he is automatically suspended from the next match in that competition. The Disciplinary Committee may exceptionally depart from or amend this rule before the start of a particular competition. Any such decision reached by the Disciplinary Committee is final.

So, congratulations in Advance to Saudi Arabia if the above law is claimed and applied.

Tom Rogic had a yellow card against Jordan in 5-1 victory of Australia in Round 2, and then he had a yellow against UAE in 1-0 victory of Australia in Round 3 hence, he was not eligible to play against Saudi Arabia (whereas he played). Hence, this match can be forfeited if claimed by Saudi Arabia and 3-0 victory will be awarded to Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia needs to claim this immediately.

If above happens, Australia will be on 15 points instead of 16... And suddenly, UAE will be in contention to claim 3rd spot.

Its better KSA play and win matches rather than finding loop holes in the system and claiming it..
