Danny Rose would not have been a bad solution, if we didn't have more pressing needs to attend to. Plus, he'll cost an arm and a leg as well. From the Mirror, so it's probably BS anyway. They probably really meant City and not United tbph...
I accept what others said above about depth but I would have seriously looked at Rodríguez and Kolašinac given their ability and availability on the cheap. Both are six foot plus.
Saul talks about Griezmann's potential transfer away from Atletico. www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/manchester-united-transfer-news-griezmann-13109905 As interesting as his comments towards Griez are, just as important is the fact that he's not speaking like someone on the verge of leaving himself.
This. Bale still has something to offer but I'd hate to see us spend 60--80m on a player with his record of recent injury problems.
I gotta say I'm getting pretty nervous about this summer. Most of the players we're being linked with just aren't good enough. If we end up with a summer full of mediocre players, it's going to set us back.
Could be just a smoke screen while we go after real targets. It's not even July 1 yet tho so no need to panic just yet.
conversely i've not been particularly impressed with who's been signed as of now in terms of us missing out. people are panicking because we aren't moving swiftly or it seems that way in comparison. no need to worry yet imo
Except for the fact that other teams have stopped playing the "wait till last minute to try to pay as little as possible" and are just stepping up to the plate and paying asking price early.
More money in the game than there are top players these days and a lot of clubs have less reason to sell. Leaving it too late seems to have cost us more than getting on with it in the past anyways.
Considering it's been less than a week since we secured champions league football I wouldn't worry much yet. The thing is that Woody has had the list for 2 months, but we've only had CL football for 6 days. That means he's had to touch base with most of the players on the list in the past 6 days. Don't fret young muppets. Also, that link was sourced from the Mirror. Traditionally you fellas don't freak at Mirror rumors.
Had a feeling that the hysteria and drama this summer would probably be exceedingly high. Not even a full week into the team's offseason, it may be the stuff of legend when it's all said and done.
We shall see to what extent Mourinho and Woodward spit in the face of the supporters with their transfer activity.
Is this believable? Antoine Griezmann has told Atlético Madrid that he wants to leave the club. (Source: COPE) pic.twitter.com/PJ5xYkDyq9— Transfer News Live (@DeadlineDayLive) May 30, 2017
Let's review whom we've been linked with: Antoine Griezmann. Yes, I understand here view Griezmann and Pogba as being incompatible, but in truth we couldn't realistically aim much higher than Griezmann. If the football gods told us we could only have one transfer this summer -- and that it was hands off on the likes of Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar, Lewandowski et al -- the player I'd want to bring in is Griezmann. He scores, he creates and he even defends brilliantly for a forward. Ivan Perisic. Perisic should be viewed as a potential upgrade on, or at least competition for, Anthony Martial. I'm not sure what to think of the Perisic link but from little I've seen of him he'd definitely challenge Martial. And if this season's form is any guide, Perisic would blow Martial away. Andrea Belotti. I doubt we'd bring in a third forward, but we do need a striker regardless of what happens with Ibra. And we're not going to spend the crazy 140m that's reportedly being demanded for Mbappe. There are of course no guarantees but Belotti would be a fantastic signing, though the numbers that are being discussed stagger the mind. Eric Dier. I can't this one happening (Daniel Levy) and yes, Wanyama is higher up in the pecking order, but Dier would be a great addition to the squad. He can play in midfield or at CB. And for those who don't like our current offerings at CB, he'd partner brilliantly with Bailly. Fabinho. An alternative to Dier, this one doesn't seem likely. But if we did land Fabinho, a player to whom we have been consistently linked (as have City), oh my. Michael Keane. Promising but far from proven on the global stage, Keane is one for the future. No, I don't think we're going to bring in 6 new players but Griezmann and Keane seem nailed on, Perisic seems likely, and either Dier or Fabinho seems a possibility. Belotti, well, who knows? But if we did bring 5 of these players -- only one of Dier or Fabinho -- it's pretty safe to say that we will have added players who are well above being "mediocre".
Yes here is the original tweet ATLÉTICO DE MADRID | @RuizAntonito: "Griezmann le ha transmitido a la zona noble del club que quiere salir".— Deportes Cope (@deportescope) May 30, 2017
Manchester United would be prepared to sell Anthony Martial this summer if the club receives a suitable offer. (Source: Independent) pic.twitter.com/ub76c5WTrc— Transfer News Live (@DeadlineDayLive) May 30, 2017
I'm part of the "use players optimally" brigade. Forcing Pogba and Griezmann into the current side will result in 6/10 performances and we do not have the players required to utilise both optimally in the limited system that is viable. I would rather invest the money elsewhere.
It's very unlikely IMO. Jose has been riding Martial very hard, precisely because he's aware of his potential. Not to mention with United having paid Monaco another €10mil this season, it's very unlikely they'd seriously entertain a sale this summer. If he does not seriously improve this coming season, I could see it then, but not now. As far as Griezmann is concerned, he had previously mentioned something reportedly about wanting a deal done fairly quickly, before he takes off for his honeymoon (which is said to be in 2-3wks from now).
