Yep, City's spending is going to be obscene this summer with all that turnover. Just clearing the decks right now. It's not like they can't afford it. All the top teams are poised to spend big though: we know that United, City and Chelsea definitely will. Arsenal probably will as well to appease the fans, especially with Wenger staying. Pool and Spurs ought to as well, but will Henry loosen the purse strings and don't know if Spurs can afford to spend with the new stadium and all. Won't surprise me if we reach record levels for the league though this year.
Gross, but I don't disagree. There are a lot of RBs with potential but nobody that close to the Lahm and Alves level. I think guys like Aurier and Cancelo could turn into those top level guys. I also think that TFM will be a top level player and potentially top level CDM. It just depends on if we give him the minutes to succeed and where we give him those minutes.
I don't imagine it will be a problem for them, especially with all the deadwood they are cutting loose right now. If they were to get 4 starters in defense alone (2 FBs, a CB and a keeper), it would be a very successful summer for them and I'll be worried about them for the title next year.
For one it is hard finding good CBs, fullbacks and them gelling instantly would be a miracle plus their GK situation.
They're clearing out Clichy, Sagna, Navas, and Cabellero for sure. Bravo and Toure wil likely leave as well. They're effectively rebuilding the back line and defense.
Also need to buy backups as you cant rely on 2 fbs for a season, probably need 5-6 fullbacks/players who can play there to go through a season without playing players out of position.
They don't necessarily need to buy at every position, especially when it comes to backups. And yes, they can't rely on the same starters for what will probably amount to 50 to 60 games, but compared to where they were this past season, if they massively overhaul their starting backline, it will be a marked improvement in itself, without any doubt.
Looking at their clear out and lack of any noticeable young players to cover, they will have to buy a lot or will be short.
Are you familiar with their youth system? Because I'm not but the point remains that whether they buy 4 new starting players in defense, or 8, they will still be in all likelyhood in a much better position quality wise. Not to mention, if they are clearing out the way they are, it certainly means they all will be replaced one way or another...
Like I said, it's clear you don't know any better than I do what they have at their club in way of youth players (who will be a year older next season) or just in terms of players they may have on loan even. But at the end of the day, the bottom line still remains that it's very unlikely that Pep will be caught unawares and not ready for the coming. They may buy just 4-5 players or 15 for all I care, not only they'll have the means to do so, but it stands to reason that one way or another Pep will have City ready for next season...
Bernardo Silva to City looks to be done for 60m reportedly (various sources), in Manchester for medical supposedly.
City need defensive players and they pick up Silva. But of course, Pep. I guess the only thing that makes sense is that he's slated to be Silva's long term replacement? If there is any doubt now that City's sending is going to be utterly ridiculous this summer... But more importantly, it perhaps reduces the chances now of them getting Fabinho as well. Funny how according to some journos just last week, he was supposedly in talks with United and was OT bound. Lol, shows what they know...
He'd be a good fit in Serie A as well and I imagine fits the profile of player the new ownership there would be looking for as well.
The only senior one they have right now is Kolarov. They're obviously are going to reload with both Walker and Mendy strongly linked to them. Beyond that, who knows who Pep will get to make up the numbers. We've already seen him use Fernandinho more as an auxiliary RB. Maybe we'll see him more in that capacity next season.
