Trump's threat to Comey of having tapes of their conversations is taking on new importance - are there actual tapes that can clear Trump, or were they an empty threat to attempt to prevent Comey from releasing this information? I don't see how this will end well for Trump.

 

Yeah, those tapes...put up or shut. The ********. Up.

It's do or die for the tapes, right? I mean, they have negative credibility at this moment...whatever they say is likely a lie. What they SAY is completely meaningless.

 

Nothing came of the Obama wiretap-p. So he feels emboldened

 

He's a narcissist. He thinks anything he does is inherently right because he does it and anything anyone does against him is inherently wrong because it is against him. Narcissists don't understand ethics and rules the way others do.

If Obama in fact did that, my respect for his intelligence just shot through the roof. I've always thought he was very intelligent, but this would be awesome.

As far as I can tell, you're equating "donors lining up behind Clinton" and "the media giving Clinton outsize attention" with "the Democratic Party clearing the field for Clinton," which are two completely different things.

 

Theoretically it'd be impossible to rationalize away the sitting president asking the FBI Director to close an active criminal investigation into his friend, but I have a feeling many GOPers will attempt just that.

It's going to be fascinating to see.

Are reports likely be Democrats? Perhaps.
Are they likely to donate to Clinton over Trump? Of course, Clinton is not a buffoon.

 

At some point you are going to see someone like Ben Sasse calling for the resignation of President Trump.

And then the GOP Civil War will begin.

 

I fear this, just how low and long will they hang on to defending Trump. There was bubbling anger among white men towards the Gov't leading up to the 2016 election. Now if the likes of Fox, Rush, Hannity, and others fight this and keep defending him, say a prayer for any loved one you may have who works in a local gov't agency.

 

When I was a little kid in the early 80's we told Polack jokes, and I had no idea what a Polack was. Very few Polish immigrants where I lived in Southern California and yet somehow they'd remained the butt of jokes.

 

I heard them only the three years I lived in DC Metro (Silver Spring) in the mid-70s. The bulk of my schoolmates were Jewish, so they probably didn't know they might have been slandering some followers of the same religion.

I never did get how Poland came to be the punchline. It's not like they had a famous and distinct national culture.

 

That point will only come when most of the party wants him gone. Did you get a degree in bad takes?

It might just be that Mike Pence will become the greatest benefactor of failing upwards in the history of failing upwards.

He said something this morning on CNN with Chris Cuomo that caught my ear. I had to rewind it and hear it again because I enjoyed it so much. He said;

"Right now we have too many people that feel like our partisan labels, weather they are Republican or Democrat is now a fundamental part of people's identity - that is not the oath of office I took. I am one of the most conservative guys in the senate by voting record but I don't start by thinking either of these two political parties are very interesting or impressive or have a long term view."

Well they aren't classified. And he was invited to publicly testify infront of Congress prior to the NYT report.

 

Honest question - they're going to need to put extra protection around James Comey right?
