Well since BS is dead for the rest of the season until something happens. Listen to our new podcast to get that final Union kick of the season.
Podcast + following the OMG SO SUPER SUPERDRAFT on the Twitter makes for a pretty sweet Friday afternoon at the office.
The Philly Soccer Pod is back for its second season. Here's a link to this week's show - a 21 min. recap of the Union's offseason, a Vancouver preview, and MLS Fantasy tips. Available on iTunes, Soundcloud, and Stitcher. http://tinyurl.com/jfaon9j
Not Philly-centric, per se, but on the Eastern Conference preview the boys at Extra Time Radio are drinking the Nexus sauce. https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2017...ern-conference-preview-red-bulls-jesse-marsch
I don't see episode 13 on iTunes just as a heads up, but I'll give it a listen on Soundcloud I lied. I see it now
I don't feel like digging through this thread. But what's a good Union-centric podcast? I've taken to listening to podcasts at work and need something Union.
So the two main Union podcasts were covered, and then outside of the Union Extra Time Radio is great for MLS & USMNT, and Max & Herc (still part of ESPN FC on iTunes but they're working to get their own podcast page) is great for North American Soccer as a whole.
Small hiatus? I believe we are going to try to keep it going in a few weeks. I moved to Oxford so the logistics and actually recording is gonna need worked out. I said all along that I would want high quality recording or none at all. So we will see. I really enjoy doing it with Ryan and Brandon. Whether we have 10 listens (4 of which are mine) or 89 I think was our highest. Its a fun time and nice to see other new pods going about joining in too.
I listened to the last one. Then there weren't any more. I'll never listen to another pod again. The pain is too real.
The 90th Minute Union Propaganda podcast (I think it's FO produced) is so cringey but I like listening to the kool-aid drinkers from time to time. Almost all of their bumpers feature highlight calls for players that aren't on the team anymore.
I can't stand Dave Leno though. Such an idiot. I'm actually masochistically looking forward to hearing Leno and Cherkin polish this turd this week
Uh oh... somebody didn't give Shep Messing the Memo that the 90th Minute should be purely Union Propaganda with no criticism of the team. Shep Messing's comments: "Do I have time to respond, you had a lovely fan who wrote an open letter to Jay Sugarman that I read today, do you have time for me to give a response? - Listen, I love Philly, I love the market, I want them to be successful, but talking about the Red Bull and talking about Philly, I'm giving Jay Sugarman a pass. He spends more money this year, 2017 on the roster than Red Bull. Total cap salary for Philadelphia - 6.2 Million Dollars, Total cap salary for New York Red Bulls - 5.8. It's not Jay Sugarman's fault, it's not Jim Curtin's fault. It's Earnie Stewart and Chris Albright. Albright since he's been in charge of domestic scouting for two years has been a failure. Earnie Stewart has come into the market and I like Earnie, and I hope he succeeds, but he's bought overpriced Dutch players, he doesn't have his finger on the pulse of Major League Soccer. Jay Sugarman is spending more money than New York Red Bulls, New York Red Bull has a far better team. I'd like to see Philadelphia get it right, but the onus is on Earnie Stewart and Chris Albright." Hilarious response from Carl Cherkin after Shep was off the phone after a break: "I just wanted to add a little footnote to our conversation with Shep Messing. I was a little disappointed quite frankly, and a guy who I've known a long time, when he asked for some time to make a comment and I thought he would go initially where he did, in support of ya know, ownership and the chairman Jay Sugarman of the Philadelphia Union who has been very clever in the way he built this organization and heading towards the infrastructure portion of a plan really, rather than just throw money at designated players like some others have had with absolutely up and down success. Some have been successful and some have been abject failures, but to lay the blame at the foot of Earnie Stewart and Chris Albright who are part of this building the infrastructure, building the the academy, building Bethlehem Steel and the path to the pros is a bit unfair, and it's still early so I'm very surprised"
For context here, Shep Messing and Nick Sakiewicz are very good friends, so I put zero stock into his comments. And who gives a shit if the Union spend $400,000 more than Red Bull? Philly is still bottom-half in this department league-wide.
Oh, I totally agree... honestly I only added Shep's comments for context. Cherkin's response is really the funny thing here.
yep, hah shoutout to @thomas19064 for actually listening to the show and making me aware of this, story just went up on Voice
It's up there with fans tweeting the team they had an illegal lineup announced for the FC Dallas USOC match few years back, confusing Blakes HG and international status. Stand tall.
