the more I watch adu, the more I appreciate his soccer iq....early in the mls season, he was totally out of sync and looked like a headless chicken...

now, his composure belies his age...

his vision is great, and that's a huge factor when you look at the very best....

and nowak has him taking corners, which are generally pretty good.. his ability to make the precise pass is very surprising....

    valderamma would be envious...

then throw his physical gifts of jet like speed into the mix....

adu could either be a winger or a withdrawn forward, with winger really wasting all his talents....

interesting to see how the future evolves and how donovan and adu would be paired on the pitch.

I belive you think to little of the MLS. I remember Solskjær when he played in Norway before he moved to Manchester united. He had the same qualities then as he has now. The only difference is the routine he gets of playing on a higher level in the long run. The MLS is as good as the leagues in Scandinavia, Austria and Switzerland. I think its strange that you americans want your league`s best players to play in Europe. If soccer in the US shall develop, it needs to hold on to their best players as long as possible.

personally, I hope american soccer aspires to the dutch model....

have a decent level, of play, a couple really nice sides, and sell talent elsewhere to survive....

get the kids young and then sell the good ones to survive.

I believe the expectation is for those 'Yanks Abroad' to eventually bring the skills learned abroad back to MLS, acting as mentors to every new generation, thus eventually strengthening the league. Or at least I would hope so...

that's poppycock. the manager isn't go to say, "he's not producing, so I'm going to sit him". that would have crushed his confidence. the bottom line is that he wasn't scoring. if he were, he wouldn't have been on the bench. the managers line was just that ......... a line.

Moyes came out and said when Rooney made his breakthrough into the team that was exactly what he'd do and he stuck to it. Everton's fans wanted him in the team more often and would often chant his name to try and get the boss to bring him on - not exactly a sign of someone who was underperforming.

I respectfully disagree. what the fans chant has absolutely nothing to do with his performance. he had the "boy wonder" tag on him because of his exploits as a youth, and the fans were responding to THAT ...... looking for him to be the savior. much like the unrealistic DC United fans did/do with Freddy Adu. The fact is that regardless of the lip service of Moyes or any other coach, they are expected to win. If Rooney were helping the team do that by scoring fairly regularly (which he wasn't), he would have been starting despite the proclamations of the coach prior to that.

you forget that these fans are season ticket holders who've mainly seen promising young players before. They were not fans coming along because of media hype, being told that this kid is the best thing since sliced bread - i.e. they were not there to see Rooney. If he'd been playing badly the fans wouldn't have been bothered if he'd come on or not.

You also forget, with Adu you've had people for years saying he is going to be fantastic before he'd even kicked a ball in pro game. That didn't happen with Rooney. His entire reputation was built on what he did on the pitch, not what people were saying he was going to do.

Moyes also did other things to protect his young 'star', such as stopping him from doing any interviews. He also played him far more often last season than in his first breakthrough season. He scored more goals too.

For the record, Rooney started 26 league games last season. Only 4 outfield players started more. Nobody played more games in total.

So let's sum up. No Everton player played more premiership games than Rooney last season, and only 4 outfield players started more games, and he was also the club's leading goalscorer. Yep, that sounds exactly like someone being constantly dropped for bad play.

the whole matter of rooney or adu will be settled in the next decade when each competes on the flesh market...

adu is more ronaldhino like in his play...and eventually the choice by the BIG clubs will settle this matter...

Freddy read this and wanted to have another interview with me. Here are a few quotes from Freddy.

SS: Freddy, Wayne "The Human Wonder Boy" had some disparaging comments about the US. What do you think about that?

Freddy: You know my mother had a choice to go either to England or the USA. She chose the USA for one good reason. Opportunity. Yeah, the USA has tons of problems. As for people hating the US, the English are not really ones to talk. Their history is littered with nations they have literally destroyed. The whole African continent has been destroyed by the European colonizers. The USA, on the other hand, gives aid on a continual basis. In Darfur, the American congress has just appropriated $400 million to help the Sudanese. When it comes to problems, the Americans are willing to take a stand. That is why I am always proud to put on the USMNT Uniform. Hell, England would be speaking German if it were not for the Americans.

SS: How did your first season go?

Freddy: It went well. This sure beats playing reserve soccer in England. Everday I get to play against some pretty fine players. Probably the best move I could have made.

    SS: Thanks for your time.

    Freddy: No problem.

I would suggest that in ADU's short time in the USA that he reads some history books rather than the Hollywood versions. Yes, Europeans colonised a lot of the world, the British in particular.
But the white Americans slaughtered and stole land west of the Mississippi from the native Americans and Spanish in CA. and TX. long before they ever showed up. That's without keeping slavery a whole generation after the rest of the world abolished it, and although it was evident in the British Empire, in never existed on home soil. And at the time England was winning the World Cup, the USA still had segregation and restaurants displaying signs, "NO COLORED". Maybe the field that ADU is now "working" may not exactly be the same ones that some of his ancestors "worked" after being brought across on American slave ships 40 years after everyone else had stopped.
And as for "speaking German", after the Luftwaffe being beaten in the Battle of Britain, they would never have invaded. Had the USA not been attacked by the Japanese, and seen at "half time" which way the war was going they probably would not have entered at all. As for the invasion of Iraq, well, I never imagined Saddam Hussain parading down 5th Avenue even in his wildest dreams, so I would suggest ADU thinks before speaking, plus I doubt that MLS comes anywhere close to EPL reserve team football.
So let's get back to the main point. Will ADU ever become a ROONEY? Well W.R. is playing "Champions League" football tonight. Will EDU ever? Not without becoming a regular US National player, or becoming an E.U. citizen. Did his Mum make the right choice? Not for soccer she didn't.

I agree imperialism takes many forms...

    the british empire was one...

    and manifest destiny...for the usa..

now the usa has it's god and guns creeps, so yes, there's a new rising fascism of the economic variety...

freddy is a 15 year old kid..fairly articulate, but he's with 250 million other americans who know very little about how the world really functions...

at least growing up in ghana and in suburban washinton dc...he's seen far more of the world than the average american...

I believe freddy will become a great soccer player and if he sticks with the program he will definitely become better than Wayne Rooney. I personally got to see him play in a U17 national games. He played great and the opposing team kept on fouling him because they would get juked. I'm glad Freddy is playing for the U.S.!!! :D

No one knows if Freddy will be as good as WR. I did see him in the Dallas Cup a few years ago. Not only was he the best player on the pitch, but also the most exciting. Oh, guess which country gives 4 times as much than Europe to the World Food Program?

WR:Oh that little overhyped **********!!!! That todger that the Americans are billing their saviour, even though he ain't actually American

JW: You're telling me!!! So anyway what do you think of him?

WR: Nothing much, Lets see him come and play in a big league in Europe, score a wonder goal against one of the best sides in the world, play against some of the best players in the world make them look foolish and score a few goals in the proccess, wait, If i'm correct I think I scored only one less goal in the Euro's than he has in a whole 30 plus match MLs season.

JW: hey, he said the only things the English are known for is boring football and ugly women what do you think?

WR: We all really care what the Yanks say don't we? afterall America is the most liked country in the world. Boring football? If I get started on American football or that bollocks in MLS they call sarccerrrr, I'll be here all bloody day mate so I won't even start. Freddy just needs to chill and do some true American things like start a war for no reason, or elect a degenerate to lead their country, or go and eat junk food, or become obese, or be lazy, or be loud and obnoxious, or get heart disease, or join the biggest gay population in the world, or just be hated by the whole world. Well I gotta go me and my mate James have to pimp all these U.S slags, they love our accents.
