Well I am headed out there from KC and looking forward to the final.

I met some of you when I happened to be in DC for your home opener v. the quakes and stood in the SE section.

Of course this time I will be rooting against you :)

But I know what a great group of fans you have and look forward to seeing many of you again.

Good luck in the final and remember not everyone in a red state is red and not everyone in a blue state is blue.

With Nellie and Dema back I think DC will be unstoppable. The team is just on a roll and with two of their most important players back I think they will be even more fired up. We certainly missed Dema's intensity in the midfield.
Hopefully the attack can take advantage of the wide field and stretch KC's defense. I think it's definitely worth thinking about starting Adu because of that.
I think he would cause more problems for the KC defense than Stewart because of his dribbiling and speed.

This is going to be fun. They are a tough team to beat but if our midfield brings it like they have most of the season then we will get the job done. Hopefully none of our guys are hurt too bad. Namoff, Jaime, and Gomez please be ready to go. Dema and Nelsen should be bringing energy back to the team. No lineup changes from the Metros series if everyone is ready. Freddy, Tino, Gros, Ezra, and Brandon are ready to come off the bench in any situation.

What the F is an Adegboyega? And is he starting over Meola because he finally got fatter than Tony? Oshoniyi HT: 6-1 WT:190. Meola HT: 6-1 WT:205. Naah, Tony's still the king.

On a more serious note, will they ride Bo into the final? Or is Tony healthy enough to claim his spot back.

    Thx,

    Jay!

I have no idea how this will play out. I'm optimistic DC can win with Nellie and Dema back. Eski, Jaime, and Gomez. The magic triangle III. These guys are an attacking force and put away three of the great all-time MLS goals...all in the same match...all in a pressure cooker atmosphere. I think they'll be the key in Carson if the mid and D can right the ship from the NE onslaught we weathered last night.

We might have an advantage from Nowak in that, in 2000 he played against the Wiz in MLS cup final and although the Fire lost 1-0, a lot of the same players are still around.

Hopefully Nowak can use this experience and his knowledge of the players to bring us Cup #4. How sweet it could be..

A quick comment/observation on the Yellow Card/suspension discussion and last night's game:

I couldn't remember if Esky had drawn a card in one of the previous playoff matches (apparently he did not), but from the way he reacted to getting his Yellow I thought for sure he was out for MLS Cup - I actually thought his play deteriorated a bit after that. He really looked liked he'd been kicked in the gut.

Did anyone else pick up on this or was I seeing things?

Once again, the tradition continues. Every MLS Cup has featured a coach in his first full season with the team.

    1996: Bruce, Osiander
    1997: Hankinson
    1998: Bradley
    1999: Rongen, Jabba
2000: Gansler (took over KC one month into 1999)
    2001: Yallop
    2002: Nicol
    2003: Sarachan
    2004: NOWAK

I talked to one of the team managers at the after party at the Pour House last night, and he told me that the only player in danger of suspension for the final was Freddy.

All players are available next week.

Re: Official DC United vs Kansas City Wizards PRE Match Thread :: MLS Cup 2004

after the euphoria now time for some good ol analysis:

    05/15/04 KC at DC
DC wins 1-0 on moreno goal

    07/10/04 DC at KC
KC wins 1-0 on matt taylor goal

so i guess that's about how tight as it can get....both teams winning by the smallest of margins on their home field....now playing the championship on neutral HDC in Carson, CA

    my projected lineups

Western Conference Champions Kansas City Wizards

    -----------------------B. Oshiyini-------------------------

    A. Zotinca-----J. Conrad------N.Garcia--------J. Burciaga Jr.

    Stephenson/Simentukov----Gutierrez--Zavagnin----Jewsberry

    ---------------Wolff----------------Arnaud---------------

    Eastern Conference Champions DC United

    ------------------------Rimando---------------------------

    ---------Namoff----------Nelsen---------Petke-------------

    ---------------Olsen------------Carroll-------------------

    Stewart------------Gomez/Kovalenko-------------Gros--------

    --------------Eskandarian-----------Moreno----------------

all players available to play b/c the card system is reset, right? at least everyone for DC will be available.....good to have nelsen back ....but our offense showed that we no longer need to stifle an opponent to win a game...KC on the other hand must and should get a good game from its D to win....remember KC lost to SJ where we have yet to lose in these playoffs

Man, I can see this is going to be a heartwrenching trial of a match to watch for us.

Our boys can do it..we have seen them do some impressive things this year, and we all know about Nowak's determination to bring the Cup back.

Also, if this is Jaime's team, like I beileve it to be, he may be able to pick us up by our bootstraps and will us to another Cup...cementing his legacy as possibly the greatest DC player of all time, better even than Etch, because, if United wins tommorow, it will have been all Jaime, none of those other guys to depend on.

Oh my god. Can you imagine the absolute 100 percent total sh!t fits that the MLS suits are feeling if this turns out to be true. I gotta say, it won't impact the game much, from the DC team perspective. However, the league must be trying every loophole they can think of to keep Fred in the game. Ha. All it takes is several million red $$$ staring you in the face to realize just how dumbass these card accumulation rule really can be. A DC final with Fred suspended is the league's absolute worst nightmare. For the record, I really, truly hope that they obey the fvcked up rules that they made for themselves and sh!t in their own bed and keep Fred suspended if it is according to the rules.

Mike means that the only player in jeopardy going into last night's game was Freddy, because Freddy didn't play in the first game, and picked up a yellow in the second.

I think you misunderstood. Freddy was the only one in yellow Peril going into last night's match. He wasn't booked, and thus will be available for the Final.

Actually, Freddy was the only player in danger. He didn't get a yellow last night, did he?

Everyone should be able to play.
