Not at all, Assad knows he has a free hand from the world, Trump just gave him another seal of approval.

I suppose a lot depends on how you define or what you consider a properly maintained firearm. I will and have conceded in one of our previous exchanges that advancements in manufacturing most definitely makes a weapon more reliable but in of itself does not make it more lethal. What makes a weapon more lethal falls almost entirely on the operator and their ability to acquire targets, control recoil/muzzle rise and reacquire targets. Accurately shooting a handgun and rifle is a lot more difficult than many believe.

While that is true, not much has changed since the A2 came into the picture which is still longer than many posters on this site have been alive.

...which is why I asked the question initially as to whether we are talking about one year ago, five years, a decade, century...using the time frame you are referencing I still ask, what exactly has changed or advanced that has made firearms more lethal?

The Glock influence in the market was more attributable to increased law enforcement contracts as they moved away from revolvers than anything else. Glock was also a benefactor of sound marketing since we already had access to such manufacturers as Sig, H&K and Colt which I find to be far superior in every way.

To touch on the standard caliber, law enforcement and military over the past couple of years have all opted to return to the 9mm as the standard bearer. In terms of ballistics, not much separates the aforementioned rounds from one another which was a huge factor along with cost and availability. Just curious as to what source stated the 10mm as a standard caliber? Very few platforms aside from a Sig/Glock model as well as the Colt Delta really produces a handgun in that caliber. Carrying a 10mm only makes sense if you are hunting in bear country and need a back-up weapon.

This wasn't really directed at you and I will apologize for it coming across that way. These threads are chock full of posters portraying gun owners in a manner that is most reflective of the minority as opposed to the majority.

I do agree with you here. If somebody truly takes some of these ideas beyond the rudimentary then maybe the conversation can be advanced.

When you buy a firearm the manuals that come with them cover everything you've mentioned above. The real question is how do we go beyond that? What does it look like and how does it work? This issue goes so beyond black and white.

Jitty and VoV both did a fairly solid job of answering this question. In the most simple of terms, an assault rifle is a weapon that provides a selective fire option (semi/full and sometimes burst) The caliber is considered a mid range round (556/223). IIRC the overall length of the weapon is a determining factor. Where things get murky is the introduction of the term assault weapon which is relatively new (dating back to Brady) in which cosmetics additions to the weapon were being factored.

Now hopefully we can get back to what this thread is truly about...pizza and rugby

The South Korean people can explain the story better. Ask one of them.

"Unresolved" might be a stretch since there's not been a hot war since then. Maybe not the ideal outcome but it was a solution. And I'm sure the South Koreans are happy they're not speaking Mandarin today.

For (most) Trump "supporters," the chickens are going to come home to roost real soon.

    Obama is not without "blame".

He wanted Assad out. He did not want Assad out as much as Putin wanted him to remain. Thus Russia the operating power in Syria, and with that kind of support Assad can continue to be the murdering bastard he is.

Nothing gives Trump a hard on like kicking a grandma out of her house to make way for a casino. The wall will be no different. I can picture Trump watching this and giggling at the joy of being powerful enough to ruin lives without consequence.

To be fair that 34% was a recent outlier. At the other end of the spectrum there have been outliers as high as 44-45%.

The truth is probably somewhere in the middle around 39-40%. Which is still terrible for this early in a presidency. And the trend continues to go down so we may still have awhile to go before he hits his floor.

Now that would be a great name for a band. And I'm disappointed no one else has pointed that out.

    Thank you.

At least he's being intellectually consistent. He said Republicans should never investigate other Republicans. Regardless of what the allegations are.

If Republicans can't investigate Republicans, it's only logical that Democrats shouldn't either. So being Republican means being above the law. Because freedom.

Elections have consequences. If these idiots are just figuring it out now that he was serious about building a wall....umm....as Tom Perez says "sorry, not sorry" . Not sure why they would vote for Trump if that was such a big issue for them. Next time dont buy land on the US-Mexican border.
