In spite of his skills or because of his lack of skills. I don't think Cech's skills dropped off a cliff; I think they don't teach proper defense. Bould, like Rice before him, seems to be there for window dressing at this point.
We had less talent in the past when we seemed to draw Barca every year and they had the team of a generation. And THIS is our worst defeat? My god man.
Not freefall. We've been through bad spells before. One tough league game between now and the end of April. Does feel different this time though: like even Wenger is mailing it in.
Last summer I made a serious effort to divest the majority of my soccer fanboy-ism, and get back to actually playing. Its paying dividends now, I can barely muster a care for how the team is doing. They Chelsea game was disappointing in the manner of defeat but predictable, that we couldn't beat a liverpool team in such garbage form was sad as well. Arsenal just aren't that hard to beat, teams smell blood.
Definitely not true of the first half, when we were actually playing the way we should play every half, every game. Our home fans were very much into it and VERY vocal. Koz's sending off was completely the turning point. Funny how his departure in the first leg was also the turning point. I'm not defending us in any way. We were relatively pathetic in the 2nd half. Makes me start to think that Wenger might indeed have lost the locker room, at least a good chunk of it. The only thing I could imagine that would force Wenger out was an embarrassing exit in UCL and/or FA Cup, and missing Top4. Seems we might be half way there.
Didn't see a minute of the game. Not shocked. Not angry. Not disappointed. Amazingly feel almost nothing with the result. Dark days indeed.
The team is a hot mess I never was sold on the idea that the first half was very impressive - it was mainly a lot of getting stuck in which is all very well but we have to factor in Bayern had one job and that was not to get injured. Obviously Bayern just had to wait to catch arse on the break or collapse vs the press Both tactics were very efficient and that was all that was needed for Arse to fold up like a cheap suit Bayern didn't even have to try hard to win this game
Watch this and tell me he isn't completely delusional- http://arsenalist.com/f/2016-17/arsenal-vs-bayern/arsene-wenger-post-match-interview.html Blaming the officials, saying the team has bad luck, difficult to take, etc. Just sad.
Arsenal sliding out of the Champions League like... Quality from @br_uk pic.twitter.com/slX7djaLdW— BenchWarmers (@BeWarmers) March 7, 2017
It wasn't OMG impressive, but Arsenal could easily have been three up at half. Agree about everything else.
For us to be up 3 we would need different players. If you give Theo and Giroud those chances they'll score 1 goal 9 times out of ten. Giroud's statue would be holding his head after he misses a sitter. If Theo was going to score 2 goals today he would have just scored 200 goals for Arsenal.
This has to be the end for Wenger, no? They may not announce it but he has to be done. You can't lose 10-2 in aggregate and still pretend to be a legitimate option to be coach. The team has given up.
For a man so concerned with playing caretaker, he is sure creating a monumental mess for his successor to clean up.
I'm not going to say #Wengerout, because it's ********ing stupid, but it really is time to go. Just announce that you are stepping down at the end of the season and rally around the FA Cup. At least go out on some kind of high... Also, Jitty have you ever decided if you are an Arsenal fan or not? I love your insight, but you always manage to come make a loss even worse. Maybe you just get pleasure out of pissing some of us off? Not saying you aren't right by the way...
Just listened to the boys on 5Live Football Daily and there was one hilarious exchange when they were discussing the toilet paper on the pitch, not as a protest of ticket prices, but rather a statement about the current state of Arsenal, i.e. what does one do with toilet paper? p.s. I'm actually not in such a bad mood. I feel this may be a watershed moment, one way or the other. We need some change. And 10-2 may just be a big catalyst for change.
Not really toilet paper, more like the away Bayern fans who brought tissues and confetti to throw on the pitch.
I've been resigned to failure since the Chelsea match, likely even before that. This team has far too much talent be this embarrassingly bad and our play reminds me of our City was playing last year. Dead man walking.
