Just get it sorted by the end of the NFL season or I'll be ticked. I can't get up for Flyer games too early anyway but once the superbowl is finished, I need the NHL.
The 1/4 of the NHLPA that earns more than the league average will keep the rest in line. Old fashion union politics.
Its only 30 people that make over 6 million, there the ones pushing for this thing to continue. The 600+ players at 1.8 or below, including the massive majority below the 1.8 average, will put heat on these guys. Cracks are showing. Look at Commodore, Ference, Daigenais, and Ray's comments. These are people who have yet to retract. A whole list of others who also spoke out before Goodenow slapped them on the wrist. I wish they would have an union vote, on whether playing in a cap is ok, I bet it would overwhelmingly pass in favor of playing in a cap versus not playing at all. Mr. G won't let that happen though, too much of an ego. Heres hoping the cracks continue and the dam bursts on the NHLPA.
The men who earn more than the league average control how things are run in the NHLPA. As we now see, it's a united front. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?id=103440 Adios NHL
Well, at least you can take advantage at your team's official online shop with great sales. I bought 2 t-shirts and a hat for $44 and change. Shipping is ridiculously expensive which is $10, but those 3 things only came out to $34. Lot of clearance items, at least in the Rangers shop.
You would have thought they would agree on something for the good of the game. This is beyond a joke now. FFS. This would never be allowed to happen in another sport. They are all a bunch of greedy bastards. Apologies for my rant, but I can't take much more of this. At least you lot have a decent amateur league.
Actually, it's happened in America's other three sports. They've all survived, but then we can be some dumb consumers. Baseball, football and basketball all are stable leagues. This'll kill off hockey as we know it. Not that I'll shed a tear.
Ray sues the NHLPA http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/1104267554676_33/?hub=TopStories Would be nice if other threads about the lockout can be merged in this one. Would make it less difficult to find certain articles.
you mean to say that the people of maryland-dc-virginia can actually survive a season without washington capitals hockey? no way, dude!
Typical of the stupidity of the NHLPA. The day after ray says he would play as a scab, the union sends him a letter that says he wont get lockout money due. He meets all criteria to ge the money. Dont you think the union has more important stuff at hand that to play petty politics. Sad situation.
Goodenow has "grown" the NHLPA's office into a professional organization. When he took office, there were 2.5 employees -- Eagleson was the part-timer on the payroll. Today there are about 50. He has an empire to protect. Sad
hockey players are all great guys. they are very polite to the press, they are not the type of as-sholes you see in other sports.however, i am with the league on this one. the league is right, a salary cap is in the best interests of the sport. bob goodenow wants to be marvin miller or don fehr, who ruined baseball.
Well the NHL (No Hockey League) looks like it will make another attempt at saving the league. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/hockey/nhl/01/17/bc.hkn.nhllockout.ap/index.html I don't know, if this doesn't work and they lose the season I think it may kill or put the league on life support. Besides I am having fun watching the AHL. The Chicago Wolves are actually a winning Chicago team. Been a long time since the Blackhawks were any good.
The NFL Conference Championship games are this weekend, so the end of football season is at hand. Just like basketball did last time, that heralds the time when both sides come to the bargaining table and end the lockout by papering over their differences rather than resolving them. It's what the fans want, and gets the money coming back in.
Apparently Phoenix and Anaheim have ordered training camp equipment. The 'Yotes have also apparently told their players to be ready to play within a week. http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/article.jsp;jsessionid=BJBBNPBCKFJO?content=20050120_130833_3916 Of course, since it's past December 31, you now have the problem that even if the NHL season does start up again, many of the players in Europe are locked in to their contracts until those seasons conclude.
They moved negotiations to Toronto. Good sign. BTW, Atlanta and Vancouver are getting their ice surfaces redone, and their logos painted on. Take that for what you will. I've got a good feeling about this. Talk about a fantastic weekend. US Soccer ends its lockout and the NHL is making major strides towards play. Buffalo Sabres- 2005 Abreviated Season Stanley Cup Champions!
Where did you see this? I certainly hope that they get something done, the players are making money overseas, so it would seem the owners need the season more so. I see Forsberg is hurt, suregery on his wrist.
You wanna hear something sad? The owners are making out better financially with a dark arena then they would with a 40 odd game NHL season.
