yeah, this is good. Same squad as last year but finally the addition of a potential attacking midfielder.
I think the key to this signing is that he is not an international like so many of the players who contribute to our attack are (Bradley, Altidore, Ricketts, Osario, even young Hamilton on ocassion).......so even on days we have to play while those chaps are away, Giovinco will still have someone to play with.
834121721217159169 is not a valid tweet id $50k in allocation money for a player few (none?) of us have heard of .....pretty good business!
I dont' even know what GAM is or how it's used. Honestly I've given up understanding MLS rules (did you know there's a new DP spot open for canadian teams to bring back Canadians playing in Europe?). but whatever...we got a really potent offence now.
Reports circulating that the Chinese club that was in for Giovinco was in Bejing and the offer to him was €10 mil/yr. The Euro trades these days at slightly above par to the US dollar (I am presuming his MLS contract is in US dollars). He has apparantly rejected the offer but the but the google translation of the Italian article I read quoted his agent as saying he has rejected it "for now"....so the saga may live on . Anyway, someone tweeted out a nice graphic of what our starting 11 might look like this year.
traditionally a LB ....but when you have, arguably, the best LB in the league you look to Mavinga as a left sided CB....they made that pretty clear when they signed him. No doubt there will be occasions (rest, injury, rotation) where he plays LB and the highly overrated Zav gets some time.
Not only does that starting 11 look good, there is a solid crop of bench players and up-and-coming youngsters behind them.
This a hundred times. I remember openly asking what he offers that Haggs doesn't in I think September when Zav was making mistakes and then the playoffs showed that Haggs was far more clumsy and less positionally aware than his counterparts despite the aerial dominance, while Zav cut out the mistakes and was practically flawless. He was one of the best players in the final At any rate, at least one of Mavinga/Zavaleta/Osorio/Cooper/Vazquez will have to sit out of a full strength starting 11. Not many other teams, if any, can say that in MLS
if the universe of comparison for Zav is hagglund....then yes he is brilliant and should start....thankfully it is not.
I find Zavaletta to be a serviceable MLS CB (after watching nearly a decade of CBs of varying degrees of unserviceableness - hello Nick Garcia). If he's rotation depth - that's a total plus.
In a 3-5-2 we could see both Zav and Mavinga start. Depending, of course, if the opponent merits a 3-5-2.
Pretty solid looking lineup. But based on everything they've been saying in the off-season, and how they've been lining up in preseason, I'd be surprised if they don't at least start the season playing 5-3-2. Though I don't think they'll stick with that formation for the full season. We'll probably see this diamond and maybe a 4-3-3 at various points this season depending on who's fit, match ups, and what isn't working
i think what someone created there was the "best 11" starting lineup and fit the formation to that 11.....yes, there will be changes over the season.

#TFC signs Raheem Edwards. Not the least bit surprised. Good for him.— John Molinaro (@JohnMolinaro) March 2, 2017 Toronto FC announced Thursday that the club has signed forward Raheem Edwards #TFCLive pic.twitter.com/557gxwo00t— Toronto FC MR (@TorontoFCMR) March 2, 2017
Did Vanney say that 3-5-2 would be "the foundation of where we're going to be for much of the season" just a few days ago? I think they'll alter formation based on the situation, so 4-3-3 and the diamond may be used. I'm more curious to see who they see as their A-list line up in midfield as the season progresses and as Vazquez gets up to speed.
Busy morning for #TFC: the Reds officially *SIGN* defender Johan Brunell, who has been on trial with the club since pre-season.— Laura Armstrong (@lauraarmy) March 16, 2017
Signed a keeper from TFC II to a big team contract to fill in as back up during Irwin's injury time. First time I noticed that Quillan Roberts was no longer with the club
