Doesn't the league realize how bad it looks to have two defunct team (hiatus, whatever, semantics) on their website? And they're still advertising 2017 season ticket packages? This is embarrassing beyond belief and these dumb a**es don't seem to either get it or care...
I don't live in the world of business- so real question...is there a reason to not update your website?
Sehgal: NASL Has Lofty Aspirations The middle of this article has me concerned about what the NASL is thinking... "So far, the NASL hasn’t been shy about its desire to raise its profile and eventually be counted as an equal to MLS. That ambition remains, according to Sehgal, but the aggressive tactics employed by the league that ruffled feathers in the U.S. Soccer community will not be a part of its strategy." I thought maybe things were different with the events over the past several months. Guess not.
You would think they would wait for at least a year for the puffery. Though in their defense, they shouldn't say the opposite either, where 'we expect to fold and be eaten up by USL'
A little from Column A and a little from Column B. You'd think if your league was on life support, you'd do anything possible to spark interest. Nada. Flatline...
Come on you people are smarter than this (I hope). Everything that comes out of a commissioner's mouth is not meant as the "word of god". It's marketing. Comments like that are like the "never say never" comments you'll from MLS types about things like "pro/rel" Throw some hope and red meat to the local fans. Quit trying to parse each and every word. Don't miss the forest for the trees.
Hasn't the NASL learned their lesson? They tried this once and it didn't work. If they wanted to be a contender to compete with MLS they'd need to have all 12 of the current MLS applicant bids all on board and in their league and drop the weak links that can't compete and the geographic outliers--Puerto Rico and Edmonton for starters.
Eh...basic CEO speak. No big deal. If they start demanding CCL spots, threatening legal action against the USSF, etc....then they will have learned nothing.
Meanwhile, FTL and OKC remain on the site...at this point, I'm hoping FTL returns as a USL team if they do find new owners.
The NASL site had a story about the new Cosmos TV deal today. But what caught my eye was this part... "a number of Cosmos games will be available through the national television deal expected to be announced by the NASL next week." Will it be a beIN, CBS Sports Network, ESPN 3 combo again? Some other combination of those three? Or someone else?
CBS Sports Network has pretty good reach, beIN MUCH less so. One reason to hope for a deal with CBS Sports Network given a choice. Overall I thought beIN did a better job with it's broadcasts last year. Interesting that this league that was on death's doorstep three months ago has - apparently - managed to find a national TV partner.
Saw this pop up on Twitter. FutbolBoricua is reporting that the Puerto Rican Football Federation and FIFA are having a spat over money which may lead to a suspension of the federation. Apparently depending on the wording of the suspension it could also prevent PRFC from participating in the NASL. Google translate seems to work well enough for the articles to get the gist. http://futbolboricua.co/en-cuenta-regresiva-la-federacion-ante-reunion-de-la-comision-de-disciplina/ http://futbolboricua.co/como-afectaria-una-suspension-a-puerto-rico-al-puerto-rico-fc/ From the second article-
True. My point was more about the fact that there actually IS a league to buy TV time for at this point. And despite the relative strength of the two leagues, if they do get on a broadcast network, they'll still be getting more exposure than USL is getting. Now that's a business decision - clearly USL could do the same thing - but it's an interesting difference in philosophy between the two leagues on this point. NASL owners seem to be OK with having this expense as part of their overall budgets. Or perhaps one owner is picking up the tab for the league as a whole.
The club president came out today saying this is false. I'm not sure I believe him since he's paid to put a positive spin on stuff. So we'll wait and see.
What I saw, he basically said any suspension wasn't imminent. Either way, I feel like it is bullshit that federation politics could prevent a club from playing in its league.
So, I just had a frustrating NASL experience. It started off with a seemingly easy question: where do I find an SF Deltas schedule for my Google calendar? So I go to the SF Deltas website. They've got a schedule, but no calendar to import. So I head to the NASL page. You can import one calendar there, but that calendar includes every single NASL team. What did I do? I had to make the damn thing by hand! Are you kidding me? I put it together as a CSV and then imported it into Google. That's freaking absurd! Then I thought, how am I going to watch these games, anyway? I assume they are streaming somewhere. I mean, it's 2017, right? So I look for that, and wouldn't you know it, I can't find a damn thing about that either. I'm not sure these games are streaming anywhere. Again, are you kidding me? Meanwhile, I did the same thing for SRFC and Reno 1868. It took mere minutes. Schedules imported and the games are on YouTube. Get your shit together, NASL!
Deltas just announced their games are streaming through Twitter. As for importable schedules... didn't realize that was a requirement honestly. Minor League baseball and hockey teams I follow don't have downloadable Google schedules.
