NASL 2017 News Thread

Yeah, I wouldn't call a schedule release to be big announcement. To me a big announcement would be an expansion team, or getting a national TV deal with NBC. You know, the kind of stuff that isn't a requirement to have a season.

 

After this off-season, I'd say having a schedule is pretty big!

NASL is just taking pointers from MLS.

 

Exactly. MLS has like 27 "major announcements" per year. Everything from All-Star game host/opponent to new secondary sponsor. I remember when we used to see huge threads on here when MLSsoccer (then MLSnet) stated that they had a major announcement tomorrow. People would speculate everything, from franchise relocation, something expansion related, major DP, and it would end up being something everyone immediately forgot about.

 

Thankfully, they've gotten better about that. I found out that this summer's All-Star Game was in Chicago via the radio while I was in a cab.

Strikers aren't dead yet, just aren't playing this season.

On a positive note, that New York Cosmos vs Indy Eleven game on July 4th in Brooklyn should be a super fan watch

 

I would expect a pregame show similar to "Living in America" scene from Rocky 4.

 

So the Cosmos are Drago in this instance, right?

 

Technically as it's in Brooklyn that would make Cosmos Apollo and the visiting team, Indy, Drago... Not saying I'd like to be either in this situation... though hopefully, like Drago, Indy comes out as victors.

 

So Creed gets killed, then?

 

At merely a month ago, it would have been a fitting description of the Cosmos

I laughed so loud when Tim Curry was introduced as the Political Officer in the hunt for Red October.

So any word on Wilt's mystery west coast teams for 2018 (or as originally rumored second half of 2017)?

I'm more of a nay-sayer when it comes to the NASL. There's no way in God's green earth the NASL is going to supplant the MLS or even USL. With MLS investment in USL, the NASL is not compatible with either league. It's not as though the salary cap thing is an issue, but I can't imagine the MLS is a fan.

With minor TV deals with BeIN, CBS and ESPN; people can watch games but from an investment stand point, the league is on life support and no one signed a DNR.
