I like the reference because I love ahmet ertegun but I am wondering is there some Led Zeppelin reference that I am missing. I don't think there is because I would have already known it by now.
Just a thought, how about an East all star game vs a studly opponent and a West all star game vs a studly opponent as a double header now that the conferences are getting huge and some great players might not get chosen
Would it be far-fetched to predict that an MLS All-Stars vs Liga MX All-Stars format would do bigger TV viewership than any MLS vs (fill in Euro team here) game would? Once the league has exhausted all the possible European matchups, that might be the route to go.

That's a great idea! The West could play Barcelona or Man U or someone and the East could play the New Rochelle Huguenots or somebody along those lines. I kid! I kid!!
That's okay - I was being deliberately obscure. I like the way you went obscure but in another direction.
exactly we promote your best teams, then relegate your entire league... ... Yes that is the plan. signed, MLS, USL fan

It DOES do something for the league. It gives us something to watch that is fun. Sports aren't cancer research. NONE of it has "meaning." The All Star game and the Charity Shield and the various SuperCups all around the world just don't pretend otherwise.
i like this idea. each year you could rotate pairs of "divisions" to make up the two "conferences" and play a balanced 34 game schedule. you'd build/have your rivalries in your own division as you'd play them every year but you'd never go more than 3 seasons without playing a home/home with the teams from other divisions.
Please don't tell me they're this stupid. This pic via @carra613 may be sign of unexpected upheaval in Sacramento's MLS bid, once considered a slam dunk. No longer. pic.twitter.com/3SBUaGaRnc— Brian Straus (@BrianStraus) February 1, 2017 When Republic blossomed, wasn't nearly this amount of expansion comp. They were clear leaders. And they invested like it (academy, etc.)— Brian Straus (@BrianStraus) February 1, 2017 Kevin Nagle was the $ behind push to MLS, along w/ other investors, but Republic was never his brand, his project. MLS All-Stars vs NY Cosmos in the inter -league all star extravaganza to end them all!!! with Westervelt as special guest analyst. (p.s.--if Cosmos lose please blame a joint conspiracy between Garber and USSF)
Yeah.. The primary investor for Sacramento's MLS bid submitted the expansion bid without any reference to the Sacramento Republic and, allegedly, did not include them as minority owners. Things between the Republic and the primary investor have apparently been very strained for the last year or so, to the point that Don Garber was called in to mediate a solution to their differences. This happened about 4 months ago and since then things had appeared to be going well until yesterday when the primary investor and Sacramento's mayor allegedly froze out the Republic. Neither the Republic or the investor have spoken publicly about it, so no confirmation, but a lot of "sources" inside the Republic have been leaking information.
