Actually he's been crushing on San Diego since before 2004 (Chivas was supposed to be an SD team if not for Vergara's obstinant desire to be in LA). If anything SD is one of his oldest crushes. Which explains why he's jumped on the opportunity down here so fast.
I will vouch for Dave as being a very solid source of information. Not only does he work for the SRFC as a color commentator, he's pretty tight with Kevin Nagle (tight enough to fly with Kevin on his private jet to Vegas). He gained a ton of "insider" contacts in the Sac sports business world, during his efforts to keep the Kings in town. He talks a lot, but usually not out of his ass 823984069134290944 is not a valid tweet id 100% https://t.co/yaIcCZEib9— Carmichael Dave (@CarmichaelDave) January 24, 2017 When will we find out if Sacramento gets a team?— Ryan (@rmg4949) January 24, 2017 Around July https://t.co/fE21ACT97X— Carmichael Dave (@CarmichaelDave) January 24, 2017
Glad to hear it. Sac has been essentially waiting on Miami for a long time now. As much as I personally want to see SD get a team, it shouldn't be before you guys do, or at least not in lieu of you guys. You've proven you're ready, have the money, have the ownership, have the stadium plan. There's no reason other than comparatively inconsequential ideas like "sex appeal" that would hold you guys out. And that's not a legitimate reason to do so in my book. On a broader thought though, if the decision on Sac will be in July, would all 4 teams be decided in July or just the first 2 (spots 25 and 26?)
A few of my birdies said "by July", and Miami is still the effing bottleneck. So it could be a bit sooner. Spitballing, they could easily announce just one this summer (hopefully Sac), and then another one later in the year. With a few of the bids not being finalized until late spring/early summer, sitting on #26 for a few months makes sense.
A little tidbit: heard that even if Miami is FINALLY confirmed as #24, there is a "good" chance that Sac at #25 will start before them. If Miami has any life at all to the bid, they want them at #24. If they held up Miami and moved Sacramento to official #24, it "could" lower the expansion fee (which MLS is reluctant to do). Also, even if Sac paid $150, MLS loses more money if Miami comes in as a later expansion team. Sac will only get #24 if Miami is DOA
Here's a reasonably good summary (as local TV news goes) on who is ready for the Jan 31 deadline. http://sacramento.cbslocal.com/2017...-next-round-of-major-league-soccer-expansion/ Besides Sac, SD, Tampa and Raleigh could probably put in pretty complete applications from a stadium plan perspective. He kind of glosses over SA. As far as St.L, they missed a deadline yesterday to get $60M in city funding on a referendum for April. If they get their act together quickly, they can still get a judge to place it on the ballot. That deadline is 2/21. I can't imagine their 1/31 application will meet league's stadium criteria.
"The" MLS, "the" MLS... rrgh I don't know why that bothers me so much. Maybe because it's not a hard concept to understand. It's just "MLS."
LOL. Yeah, "the NBA," "the NFL," "the NHL," but no one ever says "the MLB." Reminds me of a sports reporter referring to them as "the Repbulics."
And another one joins the list http://www.foxsports.com/soccer/story/mls-expansion-phoenix-cities-list-012617
Could San Diego derail Sacramento? http://www.abc10.com/news/local/wil...cramentos-chances-for-mls-expansion/394018841
Meh. Honest question, but no effort to gather any info to answer it. Could it? Anything is possible. I "could" win the lottery. So the measure of likelihood by the word is very loose. Will it? Based on what I've been told by people way closer to the decision makers..... Nope.
It was pretty impressive given the lack of marketing and the C level opponent wasn't it, but I wouldn't worry too much if I were Sac. Garber stated on our local SD radio that you guys are the only city that is currently "MLS ready", ie could begin playing tomorrow with shovels in the ground and no further approvals needed. He's bullish on San Diego, and a few other markets, but right now you guys are at the front of the line. Now you may get jumped before decision day, but there's no reason for you guys to worry about it as there's nothing more Sac needs to do to get ready. Everyone else is playing catch up.
very optimistic you are - me? I will wait to see how this all plays out - I get the feeling that Sac Town & Rochester are in the same boat

Right, because a centrist female politician with tons of business experience should stay away from politics
