The cuisine is very different and has many types of variations throughout Italy. There is a big difference from North to South as every region, sometimes even towns spealize in different delicacies.

Meh ... Parma was great on the field, but it was never a big club IMO. Serie A is fine without them. I'd love to see Bari and Salernitana first. And Verona of course, but that looks like it already 90% sure to happen next year.

Parma was a great club when its owner Calisto Tanzi bought all kinds of top players funded by his crooked company Parmalat. When the guardia di finanza caught up with his fraudulent acts , Tanzi was then found guilty and jailed for fraud. The club has never been the same ever since. They won 8 major trophies from 1992 and 2002.

Appreciate the effort in the response,

Sounds nice, hopeful, on paper, where these issues have been postulated upon endlessly, but in reality it would mean little. The region just limits what can be done.

You get the hot, vinegar based curries in the north and dosas in the south.

    Wait, what?

I keep looking through my archives. The Richmond Kickers used to have two Target logos on the back of their shorts. Before or after that (I forget) the shorts read "The Best Seat In The House". I've found photos of the latter, but not the former.

The perils pf relegation are clear. The only reason many clubs have survived in England is that someone always seem to come in to buy them at the last minute.

Football League Championship teams' debt in 2015 (where available)
    £1 = $1.20
    Blackburn Rovers - £79.8m
    Bolton Wanderers (now in L1/D3) - £182.1m
    Brentford - £19.2m
    Bristol City - £25.6m
    Burnley - only £4.6m
    Cardiff City - £81.1m
    Derby County - £14.6m
    Fulham - £24m
    Huddersfield Town - £37.4m
    Hull City - £64.8m
    Ipswich Town - £82.4m
    Nottingham Forest - £46.1m
    Queens Park Rangers - £179.6m
    Reading - £47.1m
    Rotherham United - £172k
    Sheffield Wednesday - £11m
    Wolverhampton Wanderers - no debt
    Preston - no debt
The reason most of these clubs are in debt is that they overspent trying to get promoted.
Notts County's owner did just that when we were in League One. We are now £18m in debt and second to bottom in League Two.

Phoenix would fill a HUGE gap on the map between California and Texas that has tons of potential. Still a lot of hurdles to clear, but I hope they keep that name and crest if they make the jump. Vitesse's GelreDome is probably the retractable roof stadium that best falls within the ballpark of MLS' ideal capacity (21,248 with tarp; 25,500 without).

That list is amazing. Bolton being massively in debt I can understand because they always tried to be in the running at least for a spot in Europe. But the other teams being in debt to such levels is absolutely ridiculous when you take into account that most of these teams when they were at their peak were at their very best just mid table to upper bottom half teams who weren't going to be realistically competing for anything. Why spend so much?

Falvo is correct. My parents are from north of Milan and I spent several years living there. In Lombardy, the region Milan is in, there are many different cuisines, in part due to geographical differences (much buckwheat is used in mountain areas like Valtellina, fish in the lake districts, and so on: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lombard_cuisine). Getting back to your question about Parma, I don't know their cuisine that well, but it's in Emiglia Romagna, which also has Bologna as a city (famous for their Bolognese sauce, among other things). I have family who consider Bologna, and Emiglia Romagna in general, as the food/cuisine center of Italy.

@Tom Ado who cares about gaps on a map? Most of the gap is New Mexico, and it's a low population state. People attend games, not land.

USSF cares about time zones at least, but MLS already has those covered. :p

Well Phoenix is the 12th largest television and metro area population in the country, so there is that too.

In terms of this bid, there is an awful lot I like. I think it was a very savvy move to partner with the Salt River tribe to obtain the land necessary for the stadium and training facility. You really can't pick a better spot and it eliminates an awful lot of government hurdles. I also love the name and crest. The question really is, does the ownership group have deep enough pockets to make this happen. This group is filled with savvy local guys who are hitters, but the fact that the stadium will have to be climate controlled adds significantly to the cost and they are gonna need to come up with about a $150 mln expansion fee. So the question is can these guys put together the $400 mln necessary?

That said, I definitely think, a team, in this part of the valley, could be highly successful from an attendance standpoint. There is also no question in my mind that, with the right commitment to an academy, it could provide a steady stream of talent. Though, RSL sure as hell wouldn't be happy if their spigot was shut off.

    And that's cash. Not worth.

MLS learned the hard way with Ken Horowitz, and too a lesser extent Checketts, about undercapitalization.

Being worth a billion is nice, but it doesn't mean you have large amounts of uninvested cash waiting to be spent.
