http://www.goal.com/en-us/news/1110...p-mccarty-trade-a-case-of-ruthless-pragmatism NYRB and the Dax trade. What is it like to have those type of youngsters being able to step in and play?
I wonder if its actually going to end up being Polster. He was a defender in college and did slot into the RB for the US U23. With Dax/Juninho in the MF, that leaves Polster on the bench or traded. If he isn't traded he probably becomes a rotational player slotting in the CM if Dax or Juninho is unavailable, at RB if Kapp is unavailable, or if Meira/Campbell is unavailable then Kapp slots in at CB and Polster into RB.
Spot on, IMO. Polster better not be traded. We'll be beyond thin without him. But, yeah, Polster's role on this team will basically be to play where ever he's most needed.
Dan Kelly @DanKelly_21 I'm surprised more teams don't sign DP defenders in MLS since old adage is true, defense wins championships
Guillermo Rivera @FireConf 6m NR says #cf97 will give McCarty all the time he needs after US camp wraps. Will have things to do at home before joining up. Chicago Fire Talk @CSNChicagoFire .@ChicagoFire GM Nelson Rodriguez met with the media this morning: "Every position is open to competition". #ChiFireTalk #cf97
Danny Santaromita @TheDanSanto 13m Drew Beckie and Djordje Mihailovic are non- roster invitees to Fire training camp. #cf97 Beckie is Canadian and would need a INTL spot .
Mordin sings Gilbert and Sullivan: I am the very model of a scientist Salarian, I've studied species Turian, Asari, and Batarian. I'm quite good at genetics (as a subset of biology), because I am an expert (which I know is a tautology). My xenoscience studies range from urban to agrarian, I am the very model of a scientist Salarian! One of the moments I fell in love with this series. About to go after the IFF, when my wife goes to the gym tonight.
You can get good defenders for a lot cheaper than you get good goal scorers. Thats true in every league.
Umm, okay? (I did have to delete the picture from the quoted post) Well, THAT is something that I never thought I would read on this here BigSoccer boards...and I hope to never read again!
Well, that is very unfortunate. If we do not have many/most positions nailed down by now, what the hell has Nelson Rodriguez been doing with his time? On second thought, I don't want to know. If forward/striker, left midfield, (at least one) CM, CB are "open to competition" then the Fire are well and truly f*cked. Right midfield (do we have one?) Left Back Right Back Goalkeeper (unfortunately) are "open to competition" as they have not signed anyone worth a damn to those positions.
Square peg, round hole, no clue. What, if any, skill has he demonstrated that makes "soft feet" suitable as a RM? This is the fourth time, at least, that the Fire have attempted to convert a striker to a right midfielder: Nate the tall Rolfe Nyarko One of them worked out and it was not Nate the tall.
Honestly, Alvarez is the second worst starter on the team at this point (Meira worse, Maybe Bava?), but what has Solignac shown that says he's good enough to move last years assist leader and third best goalscorer off the pitch in a position he doesn't play?
Oh, I know where you were heading! Agreed, which would make him perfect for a Frank Yallop team. Perhaps we should expect more. Who am I fooling? Of course not.
WTF As Rodriguez characterized that process, the first year of what he and Paunovic had always foreseen as a three-year reinvention of Chicago involved "many conversations with many, many people, asking, 'If you could have anybody in the league in this team right now, who would you want?'" McCarty's name came up repeatedly, and while in the short-term the Fire was losing for most of the past year (in a period Rodriguez describes as "painful - it erodes everything you're trying to build"), the medium-term prospect of building around key personnel of the new technical team's choosing, helped keep eyes on the prize. And while the likes of Juninho were less targets and more opportunities the team was poised to take advantage of when they arose, due to their stockpile of allocation money, McCarty was always the prize. Judging by the pensiveness of McCarty, I'm going to speculate that N-Rod has not sold Dax on the "process" yet. That will turn into a big issue if they don't. He's either going to see himself as part of the army or as a paid mercenary. I expect he'll behave like a professional, but the differences in those mentalities are night and day. Think numnuts trying to rule from New Jersey as an example of "leadership".
He gave up Free Agency to sign a new 4 yr deal with the NYRB even as his hometown team (OC) inquired about a trade. Now he is stuck in 2x wooden spoon winning Fire for the next 4 yrs. He is not going to be a happy camper no matter what front the club or Dax puts on it.
