So how much funny-money did NRod get for the #3 pick?

$250k would be great if used to bring in a player of quality, but will be used to buy down mediocrity...
    Waste of time

Not particularly surprising, considering his ringside seat for his brother's Fire career and the team's struggles over the past 5 years. He's much better off staying at Carolina.

Honestly, there were 4 players in the draft who were by consensus good enough to see the field (not start) day 1. There were about 6 others who were good enough to see the field during the first half of the season. An MLS coach/exec had said that outside of those 10 players, the rest were better served in USL .. something the Fire have very little control of because of a sub par (MLS standards) partnership.

This is too funny, ignoring any outside context.

I really wonder what Nelson was trying to dump on TFC that they laughed off or what current TFC player he wanted.

    Hauptman ball.

    800k TAM
Juninho, de Leeuw, Kapelhof will all be at about 525k next year, so 100k for each will go bringing their salaries to below Max. And another 100kish probably went to Minnesota to get Juninho. This leaves about 400k left. Accam will be on about a 800k contract, so NR can buy him down to just above the cap leaving him as DP on paper but almost his entire salary paid by MLS salary budget + TAM (but allowing him to be shown as a DP to show how ambitious Andrew is).

With 4 basically Max players + Niko, it means that the rest of the squad will be pretty low paid squad players or youngsters/HGP.

Now this leaves Niko. We don't know how much his salary is going to be, but it was REPORTED that the transfer fee was 3M. In this case its in both clubs best interest for that number to be reported as high as possible. But lets say it is in that ballpark. This is why NR has been stacking up allocation money for 2 years. I know there is an expiration date on that money, but no one knows when. If there ever was a place where MLS HQ would look the other way to help a club it would be Chivas USA 2.0.

    2016 GA - 150k
    2017 GA - 150k
2016 not making playoffs - unknown
2016 unused 3rd DP - (unknown amount...yes you get money for not using a 3rd DP slot)
    2017 unused 3rd DP - unknown
    Drogba - 300k
    Sean Johnson - unknown
    Harry Shipp - unknown
    Kennedy - unknown
    Bedoya - unknown
    Lewis - 250k

You could easily have 1.5M-2M right here in Garber bucks. All NR has to do is break that 3M payment for Niko up into payments to Warsaw. If for instance they agreed to take 1M per year over 3 years...then you can both pay the club this year + pay down his salary to just above the Max, again making him a DP on paper but very little coming from AH. So what do you do about the other 1M per year payments? Just keep hoarding Garber bucks to keep making the payment. AH doesn't have to pay anything else out of his pocket, and NR can tell fans how ambitious he is for having spent big money in the transfer market and having a bunch of 'virtual DPs' who make over the cap.

And the worst of it is NR. He is bulletproof on this to his insider MLS buddies. Lets say the Fire are crap, everyone inside of MLS knows the story with AH and won't blame him. They'll give him another chance because they know he was handed Chivas 2.0. But lets say this works, and he can make a playoff team with DPs from an owner that provides basically nothing to the club. Any real ambitious club will look at him as the next Garth Lagerwey. LA or Seattle or NYC looking to win with real money will see NR as some kind of golden boy, able to make a winner out of nothing. He literally can't lose. Its why he doesn't even need to move here. He can play moneyball from his home office. If it works he gets a better job at a better club, if it doesn't work he gets a better job within MLS.

    Nelson Speaks:
“There’s no message I can verbally deliver that [Fire fans] should believe or find satisfactory, because they’ve heard it,” he said. “Six out of seven years without the playoffs, they’ve heard it all. To try to spin something isn’t even worth it to me and this might be – I’ll be 52 next month; if I fail at this I could honestly sense that my career in MLS or in professional soccer could be over, because the league and pro sports is trending younger, and this is my one shot at it."

Really? There are at least 10 "fire"-able things in his year+ as head Fire asshole, 2017 Draft may be on the list, but down a bit:

    Dumping Sean Johnson
Shaking up the f*cking soccer world, boys
    Sycophant to/for Andrew Hauptman
Not "being on board" with an USL team
The "soul mates" comment (and action)
Being a lying sack of shady crap
    Dumping Shipp
Dumping Jones for Vincent (who "was not drafted to be a starter right away)
2017 Draft debacle (are they really wasting an International slot on a second round pick?)
Did I mention being a lying sack of shady crap yet?
...just off the top of my head

#cf97 May pursue a RB from outside the league or possibly draft one on Tuesday.

Apparently 9 international spots isn't enough, apparently international RB are like goalies, possesss certain traits just can't be produced in the states

Is this nonsense coming from Pauno? Because his U-20 Brazilian RB from outside the league regressed big time as the season progressed.

They scouted him on the bench IIRC.

I generally hate putting low international roster restrictions. I think the Fire shouldn't have any. It's hurting them.

Gotta laugh at NRod being all dramatic with not having a job after this one. As if he didn't just come from a made up position with USSF where he did virtually nothing for a year.

He'll always have a job. Maybe just not as Billy Beane.
