Can we both agree that the entire upper management of the FO needs to go? Gio appears to be the only competent person there and he only managed the player side of the operation. Basically, the business side of the operation needs a major overhaul and they need someone that can build on the reality of where they are and not on the starry eyed view of the Cosmos in the late 70s.
Cosmos 'savior' Commisso looking to bring gradual process to club that was on the brink http://sbisoccer.com/2017/01/cosmos...gradual-process-to-club-that-was-on-the-brink
That is not exciting to hear. Hopefully when Commisso says he is not planning to scale back he just means overall spending, while a greater percentage of the spending will go towards bringing in more fans. I don't have high hopes though. I think these teams really need to look more at what Indy Eleven and FC Edmonton are doing when it comes to player spending. Neither teams is breaking the bank the way the Cosmos and Miami FC have, and they had the second and third best teams in the league last season. Unless these teams are bringing in actual big names that will sell tickets, I have a hard time believing this kind of spending will result in long term success.
I mean they're playing at Kezar Stadium, which is not a long term solution (in all honesty it's not even a short term solution given the history of failed teams it houses). They're going to hemorrhage money for the foreseeable future where they're located (think Cosmos at Hofstra) and building a fan base there will be equally as difficult as Hofstra was for the Cosmos. They've no chance of building a stadium of their own in San Francisco proper. I mean they may surprise us, but history says they're going to fail it's just a matter of how fast and how bad.
Just give up on the international game. It's long since become a complete joke and will remain so as long as FIFA is running the show. The "new" FIFA is the same old crap as the old FIFA. Remains to be seen if the "new" post-Peterson NASL is any different than the "old" Peterson NASL, but I'm not hopeful. At least not until they give me a real reason to be so.
I disagree. I think Kezar'll be a big victory for them. Maybe even a California-sized victory. To the point you could even call it a California Victory.
The latest word we have been hearing is 2017 is a weak maybe. We've also heard that the Strikers have an important announcement coming Thursday. Hopefully that will answer all questions, including any participation in any league in 2017. Then again, this team has been such a mess since the current ownership took over this announcement may be delayed like all paychecks, too...
Eh, trust me; its not worth it. WWE is ridiculous, ROH keeps bending over for New Japan, & TNA is now owned by the guys behind the Bohemian Grove.
Anyway, if "Big 3" refer to the Big Spenders, how does that help the league? Not being solvent within your means gets you in a big mess & I don't think there will be as much in terms of bailouts unless you get a smörgåsbord of expansion clubs paying fees. If the NASL wants to hitch a wagon behind a club, they shouldn't aim for the Big 3 and lock in on the Indy Eleven.
I'd be concerned that the Indy owner would not want to considered a second class citizen in his league and that may push Indy and NC to USL. Miami, Cosmos and SF don't have the track record of success that NC and Indy have, to alienate them would be a massive mistake and I hope that it doesn't come to pass.
Exactly and unfortunately I didn't hear anything that sounded grounded in that first press conference. All I heard was a rich Italian-American stating how cool it was to rescue the Cosmos and the NASL with it. I'm glad the Cosmos get to continue playing but I'm concerned they're just going to get more of the same BS with this guy.
Midfield Press is hearing that due USSF keeping NASL D2, they've also given them time to not rush expansion, hence the sudden change from 'SD, LA, and ATL in the Fall' to Malik's 'no expansion this year.' Doesn't mean NASL won't announce these teams, but it looks like they really will be 2018 now. If that's the case, NASL should be welcoming 4 to 5 teams in spring 2018. The others being Chicago NASL and potentially the Strikers under new ownership. Wouldn't that being something? League goes from almost being dead to 12 or more teams by this time next year?
Its good that the USSF isn't forcing them to expand faster than would be healthy. Right now I don't consider the Strikers to be dead. Hopefully Rayo is dead...but there are the rumors that they are looking to reemerge in LV or Omaha. If everything goes perfectly, highly unlikely, we could be looking at a 14 team league in 2018.
Things never go perfectly; five years of stability would be nice but then that would be a first for D2.
Everything I've heard is that Rayo is dead, period. Vegas is interested in USL or NASL, haven't made up their minds or even decided if they want to jump in based on last I heard.
I refuse to follow wrestling until the corrupt WWE cabal allows pro/rel with the Lucha Underground champion.
This was interesting about the club's future "... he (Commisso) doesn’t share the visions of grandeur held by previous owners. He knows a large-scale soccer-specific stadium is unlikely, as evidenced by the ongoing issues faced by New York City FC. Building a massive venue inside the city proper is virtually impossible...." That sounds like some common sense. I like that.
I'm down for 6-8 expansion teams and potentially dividing the league into two divisions. Without the Florida glut, we could see something where Chicago is the boundary between the two divisions.
