I already said, essentially, we're just part way through, no final judgments, but that it's fair to be vigilant about the process because we have obvious holes, some of which remain unfilled, and a recent history of fairly crappy GM work. Basically, that this is no longer a trophy contender and routine playoff team whose fans can shut down in the offseason, note with some blasé who we have signed, and simply expect results when the balls are kicked in anger. I think this requires a little more constant supervision.
Is he under contract or not? I know his option was declined, but does that put him to zero or do we accept their option? What constitutes a genuine offer? I'm looking at $185k for a player who played 4 games, won 1, and disappeared for the playoffs. Granted, it's LA and not Chicago, and he was their defender of the year two years ago. But he's 28 and you wonder why he disappeared. In terms of being vigilant, 28 and 31 is not rebuilding, it's attempted reloading. Elis and Quioto are the right age but the defenders, that's "win now" ages, they won't be around much longer, and we'll be back in this spot. And that's assuming Leonardo isn't a dog like Horst and the rest of them before.
I don't wonder why, he had an injury and didn't have Juninho sitting in front of him. Gerrard didn't offer too much defensive cover for their CBs this year.
LA fans say he has a history of knee injuries and some brain fart issues, and was displaced by Steres. Before we simply say, this is the nature of things, this is someone who hadn't played a league game above the USL level until this past season, who was entering his 5th pro season at age 25. I grant that the midfield in front of him changed but that explains why the general defense's effectiveness changed, not his role/pecking order spot within that defense. Is the argument that he's a poorer defender when exposed by lower work rate CM defense? Hardly a sales pitch.
Not all internationals are made equal. I would prefer an Argentine, Brazilian or Colombian or someone on the same level as Machado but not good enough for their national team...... think Diego Valeri or Federico Higuain.... they are never gone and never suffer the wear and tear of international duty.... Having concacaf internationals on your team suckksss It's not a hard concept.
CONCACAF internationals arent the problem. the crap (or sometimes nonexistant) backups are. plan ahead. its not like these tournaments are surprises
I'm OK with the Leonardo acquisition only because it's made in conjunction with the Machado acquisition. Anything that gets Raul off this team and moves Agus up to first CB off the bench.
I know people have counted that chicken but we never actually heard that Quioto was signed. That the rumor surfaced without a signing in short order suggests that one may require negotiation and not be a sure thing like the others.
brett, if you want to see 22 quality ballers tune in to the 1st leg of the La Liga MX final at 9pm on Univision.
It would be great to get a player like Arroyo. I see Quintero, and Gringo Torres on the bench. Make an offer they can't refuse.
Dynamo trade Will Bruin to Sounders in exchange for GAM and TAM. This post might get the most rep ever.
Now hurry up and sign Quioto in here and I'll have more incentive to decide against defecting to Atlanta.
I'm getting phuqd up tonight! Will was a decent guy personally, but screw that useless POS! I haven't been this excited since the last time we made the final.
This was inevitable with the moves that have been made. I hope he does well. I think he has a better chance playing in a two forward system.
I think he will score next year, but they might only be against us and DCU. 10 goals from 4 games out of 24 games started. That would be so Bruin. Having said that I actually think he can get 15+ if Dempsey doesn't come back and Bruin is a starter. Also, I'm getting nervous that our attack is going to be built on all players that have no MLS experience. They may be good quality footballers, but playing up front in MLS is a different task than central america, especially when the service isn't there. This better not be Cabrera's Chivas USA team version 2.
Not that it was a mistake because it just wasn't happening for him here, but I bet Bruin scores 15+ next year in Seattle.
