Interesting to hear someone openly talking about the fact that simplicity (black color and leather) being the most performance driven version of a product. Other companies would never let a video like this get made for a lot of reasons. Even more respect to Mizuno than before for their integrity...which is near impossible.

This why I keep asking why EMEA models have a different product code...I suspected there's a difference.

I got these 25th anniversary Morelia ULs recently mainly just to see what sort of standard they were made to with them being Indonesian made. I can't remember too much of what people said at the time about them but nothing seems majorly downgraded from Japan made Mizunos.

Two things I initially noticed were how big the size of the opening for your foot is due to the length of the tongue (kind of like when Beckham had his tongue on Predator Manias pulled right down.). And also how high the toe box seems to be, but his is probably an illusion created by how low the heal is.

They're not my size so I'm unable to judge them any further but they seem like well made classy looking boots.

Where did you find these? The MIJ version is probably my all time favorite boot next to Wave Cup Rivaldo.

They were an eBay find. They came in the wrong box so were probably misplaced over the years. I like the low profile look of them but I don't know how the fit of the heel would be. I do prefer a higher heal for a more secure feel.

They're a size 27cm, if anyone's interested I'll put them in the swapshop. They'd be better off with someone who can fit them.

Does anyone know of anywhere selling the slightly older Morelia 2? Or does anyone know what the product code was?

    cheers!

They're not my size so I'm unable to try them on, but going by what others have said in the past ULs are supposed to stretch more than regular Morelias and therefore some suggest getting a half size smaller. This could mean the sizing would fit you similar to your Morelia 2s.

Other members will be more knowledgable than me on the subject so I'm sure someone can give a more informed opinion.

Anyway I'll put them in the swapshop and if you're interested just PM me.

I had the Morelia 12kp20201 (the version just before the current one). Lengthwise, for me, they fit a full size longer than Copa Mundial's (US sizing). They fit the same size as Nike Tiempo Legend IV's. Also, if your foot is a little wide, they will be more forgiving than the Nike's. They were much more comfortable than the Legend IV, because of the full kangaroo leather.

Is there a reason you are looking for the older version? Is it better than the current one? I haven't tried the newest model yet. (Mizuno Morelia p1ga1501).

I never had the older version... I've got the newer SI version though and I love them. I'd just heard the leather was slightly thicker on the older version though and this appeals to me just for the extra protection.

Oh got confused, and thought you were talking about the standard Morelia 2. Haven't tried the UL Morelia before.

Yes, as you probably know, the new Morelia is 1-ounce lighter than the previous version. They must have done some "weight-reduction engineering", from the older version. The soleplate was altered definitely. When I first read about that, I was hoping that Mizuno did not disturb a good thing. All of this focus on weight. There is already the Neo for players into that. (And the Ultra-Light, and Basara, etc.) The older Morelia's did not feel heavy to me at all. A solid boot, yet nimble enough. Weight-reduction could affect the durability, construction, and "aura" of the old boot. If they dropped 1-ounce without sacrificing any of the above, than more power to Mizuno.

I haven't heard anything about the newer ones not being as good as the old. Food for thought re: Mizuno and lightweight Morelias. I have a pair of Morelia ULs that are 5 1/2 years old and still in one piece. In fact I use them when I play on turf. They just started splitting from the sole this season.

I think I brought this up before but I don't remember what we said about it

Do you lot think that we will get a new limited edition Wave Cup this year? Its been 15 years since the 02 World Cup and Mizuno does like their anniversaries...

That is good to hear. I had no idea that the UL could be so robust. If anyone else can chime in about the UL or Neo, it would be greatly appreciated. Actually I'm going to be trying my first Neo's shortly. Check out this website, Mizuno Morelia KL AS turf's for discounted sale:

They are only £50 if you go through with the Checkout. Plus £12 shipping to the USA. Only sizes 10, 10.5, 11, and 11.5 remain. Kangaroo leather, lightweight turf shoe. (Going to be a bit refreshing after my 5 year-old, Adidas Mundial Team Turf's finally retire). They could have kept going actually, but my garage got infested with termites, and they attacked the white foam area near the soleplate. (The Mundial Team is a durable-Tank otherwise). Here in the Southwest USA, a good Turf Shoe is a Godsend. It can be effective nearly year-round. In the hotter months, with the dusty, uneven, hard fields, it is the best choice imho.

And to each his own, but wearing Conical Studs on Turf makes me uneasy. Wearing Blades on Turf makes my skin crawl. Especially after seeing a few horrific ACL injuries, point-blank, by other unfortunates wearing FG on turf.

The most painful thing about reading that was that 02 was 15 years ago...I recall the ad for the WC Rivaldo in FourFourTwo like it was yesterday. They were the best looking boot I had ever seen to that point...might still be.

Yeah I also have the Neo and have never had issues with them.

I'm in Texas and a lot of our fields here are crap in the summer so I understand using turfs. I've never (knock on wood) had issues wearing boots on turf but I can understand why people wouldn't.

Haha right??? I still have the World Cup review FourFourTwo from August '02. The ads in it are awesome!

Have to be one of the best boots out there.

Sorry for the slow response, I just went to an orthopedic surgeon. He was actually an ankle specialist for all the Chicago professional sports teams. But prescription was definitely the way to go. They fit and function much better than store-bought. Their chunkiness is somewhere between that of the default soccer boot insoles and Superfeet. I know they're pricey, but my health insurance paid for all of it.

That said, I have slipped Superfeet like insoles into my Mizunos and the upper accommodates them fine as well. Just takes time for the break in.

    Hey Everyone,

A friend asking for advice on Wave Ignitus 4's and sizing. He's a US8 in Nikes, but he just saw the Soccer Reviews for you video on it, and it says to go half size up.

    Sound about right?

I remember a review years ago of a guy who compared the Indo ones vs. MIJ ULs.

Said for how great they were, you really felt the difference with the Japan made ones with fit, it's lighter, and just felt that bit more quailty.

Eitherway though, good boots. And MIJ Morelia ULs were the boots that started the love affair for me.... ;)
