Always thought he could be a beast for those type of clubs. Especially the form he is on now. Jozy isn't the man guy in toronto and we know what he is capable when he is (AZ Alkmaar). Those lower level CL teams are perfect for him.
Jozy turned 27 yesterday. Safe to say he is on a roll. He has scored 3 goals in 3 playoff games and picked up two helpers. If he scores against Mexico on Friday, it will be the bow on top of a long stretch of excellent play. Below is a video of his top notch goal from Sunday. http://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2016/...tinues-his-amazing-playoff-form?autoplay=true
He was just as good for the US as he has been for TFC. Those knockdowns and passes were the key to most of our dangerous attacks. As I have been saying, first name on the team sheet for me.
He was really good the other day. Unfortunately, the stupid foul that he caused doomed us. We need great Jozy Altidore to win these games.
winter transfer window coming up, think any offers might pop up? I think it really relies on if they win the playoffs. If they do then Jozy might think its ok to leave because they got the job done.
Echo the commentary above. He was stellar tonight, and he played that way in front of Bruce. He will, and should, be a lock in the USMNT starting XI right now barring anything weird (no jinx!).
I have been saying for a couple of months now, if his hamstrings are intact, he is the first name on my team sheet. The USMNT's third all time scorer is in scorching form and we still have people posting best XI's without him. I don't get it. He is defending, passing, scoring, heading. We need one of those savvy meme makers to produce a Jozy/Maximus "Are you not entertained?" meme.
This cycle, Wood has delivered far more in competitive play against the better international sides. But having Altidore as a 2nd option in 4231 will be a boon for depth.
2 goals against Mexico. 1 drawn pk and a goal against Costa Rica. Wood has produced more against the better teams in competition.
Wood's goal vs. Mexico starts with Jozy receiving the ball with back to goal, turning his man and playing Wood on. Shouldn't be an either/or thing.
We've got a couple of competing needs (3 in the middle vs 2 in the middle, 1 striker vs 2, etc.) but my gut feeling is that Wood + Jozy were beginning to build a rapport that could lead to a full-blown partnership that I wouldn't want to break up. As a duo I think they're very dangerous. (The other combo that I think has some exciting potential is Pulisic + Kljestan.)
Remember we used to complain that Jozy never made the near-post run? Got a pretty nice goal off one last night.
Remember when Jozy turned professional, Bruce was his first coach. He knows full well what he is capable of.
I don't think I've seen a player whose "give a ********" mode is so drastically better than his "meh" mode than Jozy. The guy could have been one of the greats, but that's not important, because he's damn sure good enough for us.
