I hate to be dismissive but this is the one of the stupidest threads I have ever seen.

In life people have to be assetive.

I only started going to games last year and whenever I go to NH I just sit my fat ass in front of the TV in the middle order a double cheeseburger and whine to anyone in earshot about whatever.

I didn't wait for anyone to smile at me. I have been on exactly one bus trip (wish I could do more). which was the NE trip in the playoffs last year.

I had a choice stay at Nevada Smiths and watch Man U wup Liverpool or go support my team. It was no choice at all the answer was easy. And I enjoyed every moment of it even though we lost.

The ESC experience is what you make of it.

As for complaining about NYRMetros, that has to be some of the most insecure highschooly thing I have ever seen. I defies any real sense and is beyond friggin silly.

I'm not trying to dog on u... ur as old skool on these boards as I am. We just went over a debate on why not to go to the Mexico game and half the people posted that due to one or two incidents with a few Mexican fans they won't ever go to another game and basically said F all Tri-coloured fans.

Well I can see that. And I can see this guy feeling the way he does. Im just saying its not a cool way to think. And its not an acurate potrayal of the ESC.

I'm really surprised by this comment. The USOC pre-game party at the Court Tavern drew a great crowd, including NE/TheFort members. Myself & others went to a pizzeria next door & brought back food for people. I spoke to many people I knew & many I didn't. People who came on the train were offered rides to the stadium. I didn't recall anyone left out, though there were a couple of people there who appeared to be regulars & not fans. If your profile was that low, perhaps people did not want to bother you. If we have another USOC pre-game party, approach me. I'm the tall handsome one. (ok, the overweight, old, balding one!)

I am one of those who joins the ESC and then sits in his seats. However, I have traveled to DC, NE and Columbus. Always with my wife. Unfortunately she is one of those passionate, but quiet people, so sitting with the bouncing jelly beans as she calls them is not fun for her.

The only time I can get her to agree to sitting with the ESC people is during road games and/or USOC games.

When I go up to the guys before the game they are cool. When the Metros made their run in the USOC last year and I moved in with the ESC I was met with questioning eyes, but I said f- it and stayed and enjoyed myself.

It's normal sometimes if you don't know somebody to not immediately make them part of the group. I have not problem making my way in, even if I may be older and from a different part of the NY area.

I regret I didn't join them last weekend against DC when the stadium was so empty and dead, I did my part in my section to raise the noise and get the crowd going.

    Well, yeah, their Mexico

(and I am so in Toluca for the Hex game) - and I hated Mexico as a USMNT fan well before MLS started so there.

Listen : Come, sing, enjoy yourself - and you will be accepted. It may take a bit to know your name, etc... so on so forth. But I am probably the least assertive person when it comes to social situations (don't laugh), but if they can accept my loudmouth negative ass, they'll accept anybody

I did the same thing on another thread here and now have places to crash in about six or seven states. Just don't be a jerk. and try to hash out any misunderstandings in a mature matter.

and the Metro Board decline here has nothing to do with NYR Metro - he came here actually well after things started to go to hell - and IIRC it had more to do with bigsoccer infighting between say Huss and Dan. R than just about everything other than te general malaise that hangs over this franchise.

I mean Decepticon Lazerbeak was much more egregious than NYR Metros.

And can someone please tell me if I'm wrong or not, but I always got the feeling that since Dan R was starting metrofanatic.com, that he was very free with letting stuff go on these boards with regards to arguments and sockpuppets and the like - which BTW is one of the main reasons Jamison is so pro-active in shutting threads down quickly (which is good IMO - the other way went a long way to killing off these boards.)

Ho yeah - The Three goal Miracle - coming to RFK 10/30/04. I believe.

And I'd like to keep this thread going. Declining fervor needs to be addressed. We can't do much about Nick or the product on the field, we can do something about this.

It has to be known that ESC welcomes anyone who cares about Metro. Anyone.

Ignore people who act like dicks and focus on the good uns like jamison of NJPsycho or flip (he's a BC fan, oh well can't be perfect :D ).

One supporters club. One Metro. Sing it.

Sorry to disagree with you but that's just crap. La Norte is a section you need to BUY TICKETS to. They have their own ticket booth outside of the stadium as do we and the Screaming Eagles. I know for a fact that Sachin, Norteño and the rest of the guys are beyond friendly and looking to increase their membership. Just because security wouldn't let you seat hop is no reason to assume a section is a "Private Club."

The best way to grow a supporter section is being open to everyone.

They've got double cheeseburgers @ Nathan Hales?

I agree that the ESC experience is what you make of it. I came in during the '99 season knowing no-one in the club. As time went on you start having conversations with people and getting to know folks by their real names. If you wanna move beyond the chanting, profanity and 90 minutes of Metro comraderie then open your mouth take a step forward and introduce yourself to folks. Otherwise folks are gonna think you're a narc or somebody related to Jim "Belly up to the Bar" Leahy and let you keep standing off to the side.

Eric Stratton, Rush Chairman. Damn glad to meet you!

I don't mean to troll and I know you guys are not interested in my objective opinion on your group but I wanted to comment on this. All sections at RFK are roped off, this has nothing to do with DCU or supporter groups it's dumbass stadium authority policy (you think I want metal chain and some 400 pound yellow shirted fatass in my way in case of emergency? :D ) You can buy tickets to any of the sections (all 3 have booths outside stadium) and if you have tickets elesewhere we will exchange it for ours (Barra Brava will for sure). If you don't with little planning we can smuggle people in as some of us don't get checked for ticket stubs anymore.

And finally I find this hard to believe as I usually go to quiet side of RFK to take across field pictures of Barra and so I pass by La Norte. I never had problem walking in and taking their pics, standing there :) Belonging to Barra is done by giving your heart and soul for those 90 minutes, not by private membership card and I doubt LN and SE are different.

    Have a good one :)

PS NYRMetros seems to take initiative. If anything you need more people like him.

I don't see how you people can blame NYRMetros for not posting. Yeah the guy is a little annoying, but its not like he's criticizing anyone or making fun of them. On the contrary, he's mostly on the receiving end. I don't see him hiding though, he's not threatening not to post anymore. Probably because he's mature enough to know that its all in good fun and not a big deal. I personally don't have any issues with the guy. He's got his own way of thinking, but he's still a Metro fan. If you feel that other people are the reason that your interest for the Metro has dwindelled, then you probably have personal issues.

PS. I don't want to hear any more people b!tching about Congorilla or Jamison either, the guys do more then anyone else in terms of support for this organization.

And in terms of NJB and ESC being a clic... If you feel that you're being left out, come out next time early to 16A and find me. Its quiet simple, big red conversion van with license plates that read NJB BUS. Introduce yourself and I'll even treat you to some food.

Leave him out of it. I'll be the first to admit that when he first appeared on the boards I was one of the many who'd take jabs at him and whatever. But I met him at a game last season and he was as nice as anyone can be. This season, even though I only made it to one game, he'd always ask if I was going and if I needed a ride. The guy's selfless and goes to the games and offers rides because he loves Metro and would do close to anything to help support Metro. You want to make fun of his online persona, fine, that's your right. But try getting to know him at a game or Nathan Hale's and you'll find he's a good guy. And forget the whole "tries to be British" thing as your reason to hate him. There are a helluva lot of posters on here who say far stupider things without the British lingo.

As for the whole unity thing, like others said, it's all about you to make friends. I've only been to 2 home games the past 2 years. Will I be calling these guys during the offseason to hang out and drink? No. Will they be calling me? No. I'm a bit of an introvert and shy when it comes to meeting new people, so my lack of friends in the ESC is my fault. I've met a few guys and they've all been nice to me. I don't expect them to remember me the next time I show my face next season and I don't expect to remember them even though I'll try my best. In the end, we all march down together to section 101 and start chanting and singing for the Metros. I'm not gonna worry because one of em ain't talkin to me. You wanna make friends, go out and make friends. I'm sure it's not the most challenging thing in the world.

Geez. Why don't we just tell the front office next time we're in Lot 16A that the rest of the ESC won't share their toys.

I'm a piss poor Metros supporter - I show up to maybe 4 home games a year, maybe a few away game watches, often a Nats gamewatch at Nathan Hales. That's it, but I've been a ESC member for the last two years, and for a few years before that would wander over to 101 when I felt like it. Hardly a very supportive member of the supporter's club, and hell, half the time I don't even sit in 101 cause I want a better view of the field.

However, I have never, ever been ignored, ridiculed, looked-at-funny, or generally intimidated by any member of the ESC, nor anyone else sitting in 101. I've walked over and sat down a table full of ESC members I've never met and never once been told to go F myself by anyone. I order a beer, comment on the game and generally meet a few new people. Its easy.

At this point, I can't believe that anyone who calls themselves a Metro fan could possibly be that concerned about the state of the freaking supporter's club. Look at this team we've got here - a poorly managed bunch of underacheiving and/or no-talent clowns in a monstrous, ************ stadium full of empty seats. You know, the ESC didn't contrive to do that, nor did their unfriendliness contribute to a season of utter mediocrity. The core ESC members do a hell of a lot more for this team than almost anyone else sitting in the stands, and probably a lot more than some people in the Front Office. So why don't you just get off their backs and shut up. Life is full of whiners, we don't need any more...

I am kind of surpised to read this stuff. I have only been to one Merto home game ever...hell i just moved here a couple months back. I am not even a member of ESC but I walked up to a group of supporters grilling chicken wings and introduced myself. They offered me food, wine, let me use the grill for some burgers, and we had a brief kick around in the parking lot. I offered some beer and we watched college football on the tv that has hooked up to a car.

I asked how to sing some of the songs and they were all more than willing to sing them and teach me. I am not even a ESC member..or even a hard core Metrofan. If I can get this treatment I fail to see how anyone else, especially a member could not.

Or maybe I am just cool or something.

I hope I didn't sound rude or like I was "dissing" your team. It is good that I now know this policy about the DC supporters groups. However, that being my second DC game, I didn't know that that was the way the supporters sections operated, and neither did my friends. I'm sorry if you don't believe what I said, but that is what happened.
A pair of security officers at the entrance told us that the group by the goal (I believe it is LN) is a "private club" and we weren't allowed to go in past the ropes.
I didn't mind, but I think it will take a long time before I can convince the people I went with to go back to a DCU game as long as they *feel* they are excluded, because of the ropes and the security. Nobody told us of your policis when we were told we weren't allowed in. Like I said before, I'm sure people in the groups are very nice, but it was definitely easier to get into Section 101 and be surrounded by the foul-mouthed noise of the ESC.

I think that accessibility made for a great experience for my friends in New Jersey. Whenever I am up there, they call and ask if we can go to another soccer game (and this is from people who live in south Jersey and hate long drives)!

I will still attend DC games, albeit with different people. I do applaud your organization, even though my friends were turned off by not being able to stand with the energetic and enthusiastic fans. It is important to make the casual fans, as my friends are feel included, and roped off sections+security's admonishment, though not your fault, were a turn off to them. I think they would have been pacified rather than indignant if a sign or something was placed outside the cordoned area to serve to explain the procedures to sit in a supporter's section.

Again, the point of my first message wasn't to harp on DC, but to respond to a poster who said the ESC is an inaccessible exclusive clique. My experience with them demonstrated that they were accessible to sit with, and that accesibility greatly enhanced our experience.
Again, apologies to anybody I offended.

I can't send you a private message, so I'll respond here. We've had to rope off our section because we've had problems with people trying to come into our section and cause trouble. BTW, I'm not talking about anyone associated with Metro. This has more to do with so-called Galaxy fans.

You're welcome in La Norte, IF you want to stand and sing for United. I'll hook you and your friends up at a discount, as a way of making up for being turned away. Let me know.
