    the more the merrier!!!:D

it doesn't hurt to give him a chance. He can take Volland's place, who keeps being called up even though he's mostly a bench player or when he played has been subpar for his club. Also he's played 8 times for NT with 0 goals.

The more Werner plays well for RB throughout the year/consistent the more likely he'll get a call up. It seems like Flick and Low aren't done calling up U21 players either. Since the U21 have already qualified I can see Werner potentially being called for the March International matches.

will be interesting to see if Werner will go to the U21 or the Confederations Cup...

The key to RB Leipzig's success have been their balanced scoring and distribution. Werner, Sabitzer, Forsberg, Keita, and Poulsen have all combined really well. Every player is proactive and are hungry to make an impact. While Burke and Selke provide an energetic spark off the bench.

Regarding the Poulsen vs Selke situation. From what I gather, the club knows that Selke is a better finisher. It's been that way last season as well between them. However, the coach and management tend to prefer Poulsen for his off the ball work rate and ability to drift to the wing when needed. Selke's decision to play in the Olympics while Poulsen stayed behind to participate in the entire summer training camp was also a factor. Which is probably mainly why Poulsen is still their starter despite not having too much of a scoring output himself yet. I was hoping that Hasenhüttl would do more rotation between the two strikers. But we'll have to assess this later on in the season. Selke generally makes the most out of the minutes given to him.

that sucks for Selke even more so that the Olympics have affected his club career.

you are right Epitome about the difference between the 2

    yeah crazy that Selke has
    6 games played
    2 goals and 1 assist
    114 minutes played

    Poulsen
    10 games
    1 goal 1 assist
    737 minutes

that's almost 7x more game time for Poulsen......

given that I think Selke has potential and needs better chances I hope his situation changes soon.

Selke would have been behind Poulsen in the pecking order even without involvement in the Olympics.

Selke need to move to other club?, he is the 1st choice stricker for U21 team now, a head of Werner and Max Philip, but the other two now a club starter and Buli top scorer

    looking at Gomez,
when he was 20 years old, he had 6 goals in 30 games back in the 2005-2006 season.

    Werner who is now 20
has 5 goals in 10 games this season so far.
last season he scored 6 goals in 33 games while he was 19 years old.

they also both started in the same club. Last season Stuttgart got relegated so Werner was playing for a struggling team all season. While Gomez back in 2005-2006, was playing for a mid-table team. The next year Gomez helped Stuttgart win the league and now Werner is helping RB top the league...

Yep it goes to show that production-wise, Werner is relatively on pace with some of the more established veteran strikers from when they were younger. He's demonstrating growth and improvement at this critical point of his development.

also interesting to note the pattern
Gomez was called to the Senior NT in 2007 while he was 21 years old in the same season he was helping Stuttgart win the league. He was called up in Feb 2007.

Werner becomes 21 this March and if he continues to score and play well he could end up being called up at the same timeframe (1st International Games of the year) and age that Gomez was.

According to this chart seems like Werner is the only German to make the list, he's between 90-95.
makes sense he's scored 5 and assisted 3.

I''m curious as to what you guys think of the rumors/discussions of
    Meyer to Tottenham

and now there are rumors that both Chelsea and Man U want Henrichs?

I seriously hope neither makes the foolish decision to leave Germany while they are still young. At Leverkusen and Schalke they get to play in the 11, don't think this will be the case in England. Maybe in 5+ years.:p

No doubt about the quality of this squad, but I m not sure the 1997 n 1998ers are just as good from the next U21 crop

Ochs, OzcanX2, Henrichs, Eggestein, Teuchert, Middlestadt, Niklas Schmidt, Kohlert are eligible

But some serious doubt over the central defence n keeper.

For strikers, Putaro and Fabian Reese aren't developing as well as I expected; Daferner out indefinitely and Janni Serra has torn his ACL. We still have Eggestein n Teuchert but not enough physique in the roster.

1997 is always the weakest age group within DFB youth teams. From U16-U19 at least

    @Kirsten19
I agree I see the current U21 has having ton of potential whether the ones playing in the U21 or the ones that are currently playing for the Seniors but less so for the younger groups.

just this year the 2016 U19 euro , we embarrassed ourselves at home of all places, 2 losses and 1 win in the group stages. Than we barely won a shootout against the Dutch after a crazy 3-3 overtime tie to qualify to the U-20 WC......
that's horrible showing. We had huge inability to score/finish too.

Terrible crop of players. Only Henrichs n Ochs are standouts throughout the tournament

strikers n defence have issues. Gimber is no Sule, Ginter, Tah or Stark, and sadly he is already the best defender of this age group. The others were already playing regularly in 1BL at 18

Strikers: Putaro, Reese, Iyoha, Tietz, Kader n even Teuchert all have their issues. No experience in top division football n not prolific. Janni Serra was our best striker in U19 and he's a year younger but he's now injured till season end.

Big concern for the next U21

And of coz scrubs like Streichsbier n Kramer aren't very good either

For the record, Gimber is not the top (central) defender in the 1997 age group right now. Lukas Mühl (FCN) and Felix Uduokhai (1860 Munich) have both advanced ahead and have begun to establish themselves in their respective clubs. Maxi Mittelstädt at LB put in a solid shift for Hertha's win vs Gladbach. Although ideally he needs to play more.

Also sad to see the BL lose its most promissing (young) German NT players to the PL. This summer it was Sané and Gündogan. Now there seems to be talk about Meyer and Henrichs and there's certainly interest in Tah and Brandt as well. If they don't go to Bayern (Hummels) they'll leave for England.

Gundogan left when he was 25, he's now 26, which is a decent age to go somewhere else, he also meshes well with Pep's gameplay. But everyone else they are all 21 and younger, they still have a long way to go before getting in their prime. Going to England could see them be bench players and stall in dev. Or they could emulate Kagawa from Dortmund, went to Man U when he was around 23 he than flopped and was mostly a bench player, he than came back to the BL and wasted 2 years.
