Mauricio Pochettino says Tottenham’s Marcus Edwards reminds him of Messi “His qualities … it’s only looks – his body and the way that he plays – remember a little bit from the beginning of Messi,”the Spurs manager told a news conference on Tuesday. Stylistically, there are similarities between the England youth international and Messi, who are both small, left-footed No. 10s, with a fondness for dribbling past opponents and the rare quality of appearing at one with the ball. Pochettino's claim appeared to concern Tottenham's press team, however, and the manager, perhaps feeling the pressure, quickly changed tact and compared Edwards to Tottenham's own Argentina international instead. "He's small, he's left-footed. OK, OK, remember a little bit [Erik] Lamela when he was at River Plate, remember he had long hair, when he was 14, 15 years old?" Pochettino continued. "There are a lot of videos on YouTube that you can see, that he took the ball, didn't give a pass and shot straight away. "[Edwards] is a very good prospect and potentially he can be a top player but we need to be patient and tell him that he has a lot of talent -- enough talent to be a top player, a great player -- but now it's how he builds his future. That's very important and it's our responsibility to tell him."
Still quite baffling how he couldn't make an England squad during the last round of International matches?
The squad for the games against Croatia and Bulgaria starting next Friday 7 Oct is: The Squad Goalkeepers: Will Mannion (Hull City), Aaron Ramsdale (Sheffield United), Nathan Trott (West Ham United) Defenders: Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool), Trevoh Chalobah (Chelsea), Jay DaSilva (Chelsea), Cameron Humphreys (Manchester City), Darnell Johnson (Leicester City), Ryan Sessegnon (Fulham), Dujon Sterling (Chelsea) Easah Suliman (Cheltenham Town, loan from Aston Villa) Midfielders: Tom Davies (Everton), Adetayo Edun (Fulham), Sam Field (West Bromwich Albion) Forwards: Isaac Buckley-Ricketts (Manchester City), Marcus Edwards (Tottenham Hotspur), Andre Green (Aston Villa), Rushian Hepburn-Murphy (Aston Villa), Lukas Nmecha (Manchester City), Chris Willock (Arsenal) Read more at http://www.thefa.com/news/england/d...atia-bulgaria-game-300916#gJt3685o4dSVEL5P.99
Would have thought with a larger squad selected it would be CM that would be afforded the extra option to look at someone else that hasn't been given a chance.
George Marsh still hasn't had a chance, has he? How's he been doing lately? Also when was the last time anyone was picked for the under-19s two years ahead of schedule? I don't think I've seen it before.
His debut was September 2011 though, so that was only one year-group ahead, i.e. a late-1994 playing with the 1993s. This is actually a 2000 playing with the 1998s.
He's followed his good form from the end of the last season into this, now the regular captain of the U18s (also captained the 19s this week ahead of KWP). Find it baffling that he's never been given a look in, especially considering the midfield options in this group.
guess that's what happens when you list your midfielders as strikers. marcus edwards a striker really?
Gribbin's been injured for a fair while now. Was scheduled to make a comeback by now but doesn't seem to have done for United either yet.
