Nah. That's not Dortmund's philosophy. Truth is that one day the player will want to earn more than BVB can pay him and will likely want to play for a "bigger" club (in terms of prestige). I do hope for him that he doesn't think too early about the big money and becoming a "hero" for his countrymen. Take your time, young man. I've seen so many great players within the last years that left us too early or for the wrong reasons / to the wrong team and that have struggled then. Often, they were even under pressure from their countrymen or media to change clubs because obviously there are teams that have more prestige worldwide and the less world class players you have, the higher the danger that people will want to see their favourite football player sign for Real, Barca, City, United etc as quickly as possible. Nuri Sahin was such a case, he had an offer from Real Madrid after his first fantastic season for Dortmund and he left because all he could think of was the fact that he would become the "first Turk to ever play for Real Madrid" and all the Turkish fans and media totally wanted him to move as quickly as possible. It hurt him badly. Even Götze who was really on the verge of becoming world-class left the club 1-2 years too early. Henrikh Mkhitaryan stressed out that he is the first Armenian Premier League Player ever and left us for a club where it was _always_ known that the coach didn't actually want him so badly, but rather accepted Mkhitaryan as part of Raiola's package in order to get an agreement with Pogba. We'll see how that turns out in the end.
That's not really how BVB works. Yes, BVB is a selling club to the truly top clubs and brands, but they don't really see their players as potential products to sell unlike, say, Porto. Ideally they want to keep their players as long as possible rather than looking to sell at maximum value. Most of the world class players they sell have a year left on their contracts and are looking to leave, often to a particular destination like Bayern. As a result they make relatively little money for their sold players compared to what they could've sold them for at peak value.
One interesting thing I noticed when I searched Pulisic on Twitter after the Real Madrid game was all the foreign fans who were talking about him. There were several accounts from different countries (France, Germany, Brazil, etc.) with kids who had Pulisic in their display name or username. Man U and especially Liverpool fans were talking about wanting their team to sign him. It seems like there's an article everyday from a Liverpool based publication talking about a possible Pulisic transfer/update on contract talks. I don't think we've ever had a player with this kind of global appeal, let alone an 18 year old in the infancy of his professional career.
Said it before but assuming BVB continues on its path and it's a good situation, I'd love to see him stay there thru the 2022 WC. He'd be 23 at that point, far more mature both physically and mentally. Win a couple Bund titles. Push deep into UCL. Be a Bund first XI level player. Have two WC's in his back pocket. Still be just short of entering his prime. Then at that point at 23, that's when when he can consider moving up to one of the true handful of elite clubs if it makes sense(we still have to see how he develops). You'd want most if his development behind him, know what he truly is before taking that step, know he's going to get serious time. You don't want him moving to a bigger club to continue developing. You only consider that when you're so good and proven, they need you. That's rare. It's true world class level. It's Neymar moving to Barca at 21. It's Bale moving to Madrid at 24. It's De Bruyne moving to City at 24. Ozil moving to Madrid at 22. IMO that's the age range you consider it, roughly 22-24. And any move to a huge club carries a big transfer fee and mountains of pressure. Gotta be mature and battle tested to handle it. However, I wouldn't be against the Reus route. Worked out well for him. He still has years of development ahead of him from 18-22. Not sure he can find a better place than BVB for that. And I'll add, something I love about the Bund is the winter break. Keeps players fresh. After a number of years that adds up compared to the non-stop Aug-May schedule elsewhere. Likely prolongs careers. People wanting him to jump ship in the next year or two are insane, in my humble opinion.
Personally in my dream world he's sold to Tottenham cause that's my team. Unfortunately they're not bigger than Dortmund and the move doesn't make much sense unless they just off 30m now knowing that number will only go up in the next few years. Failing that, stay at BVB. He's obviously comfortable. He'll certainly get game time and he's almost assured of yearly CL opportunities. There's really not a better place to be in the next few years until he's more firmly established and can then grab a spot at Barca or RM.
I love watching this team play - can't imagine a better place for him to develop. Strong competition in league and UCL, proactive high pressing game, smart tactics. Unless they change drastically as a team or get a very different coach in and philosophy he's in a great place right now. And he'll be with a core of youth growing with him. Very good situation
Seems like he is really "at home" in Dortmund. He seems to have a great chemistry with his teammates, and has been with Passlack since his early youth days. His pops is there, his brother is there. He's not going anywhere. I bet he sees out his contract and when it comes time to renew, he'll see where he is then.
Dortmund is a great place for him. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I do think he'll end up in the EPL if he continues along this path, though. An American star at a club like Liverpool would create TONS of new fans for them.
Scouser interest is due to Klopp. Klopp was at BVB when CP signed. If I had a vote it would be that he not go anywhere. We are witnessing something special at Dortmund, and Christian is going to be a big part of that. I think Tuchel is one of his biggest fans, and as long as Dortmund is doing the job they are doing there is no reason for him to leave. Whatever his true level is, there is no, and I mean absolutely no, better place in the world for him to be to find out. If he can be Legend, Dortmund will give him that chance. I suppose that at some point he might would leave for some ridiculous salary, Messi, CR type 1 mil plus a week, but he is at least a few years from that.
Tuchel is a better coach than Klopp. Bundesliga is a better league than EPL. Dortmund is a better team than Liverpool
Not sure what it means but CP is up for Bundesliga Player of the Month http://www.bundesliga.com/en/news/Bundesliga/blmd6v-september-player-of-the-month-vote.jsp
