    Awful. Horrendous. Shameful. Inexcusable.

    Well, at least we know Olsen's strategy for the rest of the season, Steve Birnbaum at striker!

    Ugh! I can't believe that worked. So Metro.

    There have been a handful of games where we've blown leads but never really dominated, so in the end you can say it was a fair result. This was not one of those games.

    If not for two miraculous saves by Hamid, one miraculous block by Kemp, and Kljestan being half an inch off on his two shots that hit the post, this game would have been a total blowout by the time DC even had a chance to come back.

    In a match where Veron shows up and scored, Royer looked threatening... I mean Mein Gott. WTF is going on back there in the back 4?

    Just got back from RBA. Still in a bit in shock.

    2-0 up in 88th minute. It's unfathomable to think we didn't get the win and go top if the East!

    But at least I got to witness this fine display of Old Glory:
    Agreed. This game should've been completely under lock & key. We had em 2-0 in the 89th minute! And yes with all of the chances in 2T this game shoulda probably ended 5-2. Sasha hit the post not once but twice! We paid the price. It'll be interesting to see how those lost 2 points figure into the final day standings.

    When I saw Sasha take that short corner w/ Felipe in like the 87th minute I groaned. Then they promptly coughed it up and not long afterwards DC scored. It didn't lead directly to their goal but it was emblematic of how we were trying to sit on the lead, kill the clock, absorb their pressure, rather than keep up our own offensive pressure.

    I didn't like it at the time, and I sure didn't like it when they equalized in the 94th minute.

    I did the same watching Etienne manage to run around like a headless chicken defensively in his limited minutes, DC immediately started attacking that side of the field when he came on. Not that we should have to worry about a young kid come on to kill the game for 5 minutes while up two goals, but it was a good example of why fans should sometimes temper their expectations of a kid making the jump to the next level just because he shows some flashy moves against USL teams.

    The kid really needs some time to get his focus. He will be fine. That loss was the epitome of a team loss, inclusive of the manager.

    Two ex-Metros had a say in today's result.

    Jozy decides to shake off cobwebs and bag a clinical brace.

    Michael deserves kudos for not going down in the box at 93'. A more cynical player would've earned a PK there.

    And once again we throw away leads to direct rivals. Starting to get a little troubling.

    Oh well, onward...

    An absolutely abysmal effort. Again. We have it for 45 minutes or so and then mail it in. Part of it is mentality. Part of it is coaching. Everyone is responsible. Holy hell.

    I am hoping we do not get a two goal lead. Can you imagine how bad it would be if we got a 3 goal lead? This is rediculous.

    http://www.fifa.com/news/y=2016/m=9/news=bwp-bvb-super-mario-2836057.html says:

    "20 regular-season goals is what Bradley Wright-Phillips became the first player in MLS history to achieve in multiple campaigns. It is a feat that had eluded even the likes of Jeff Cunningham, Landon Donovan, Jaime Moreno, Taylor Twellman and Chris Wondolowski. The son of Arsenal legend Ian Wright, who netted 27 times for New York Red Bulls in 2014 – a joint-single-season record – and 17 last year, went into Sunday's trip to Toronto FC on 18 goals. The 31-year-old’s brace, which included a gorgeous chip, sent him 11 goals clear of Juan Pablo Angel as the club’s all-time leading marksman and Jesse Marsch’s side 3-1 up at BMO Field. A double from Jozy Altidore nevertheless snatched the Reds a draw that ensured the Red Bulls have, depressingly, dropped an MLS-high 18 points from leading positions this term. They can, however, take consolation from the fact they are now unbeaten in 16 matches in all competitions."

    I'm assuming you mean BWP, and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bradley_Wright-Phillips says:

    "In addition to England, Wright-Phillips is eligible to represent Grenada, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago through his heritage. In 2015, Grenada and Jamaica both approached Wright-Phillips about a transfer of alliances but the player chose to concentrate on his club football."

    and... IN. Playoff soccer comes to Harrison once again.

    Goal differential has us on top of the east for now, but TFC has an extra game so root for Orlando to beat them this Wed. (oh, how I wish that wasn't a factor but alas, collapses have cost us) On the plus side NYC is SUBTANTIALLY down on the GD tally, so as long as we match their win total we dodge the wild card round.

    It's just the Crew and Philly twice left. There's no room for error here, RBNY needs to make their the path to the cup as smooth as possible. Also, winning the east and taking that CCL spot next year would be nice.

    Here are the remaining schedules with away games noted with a *:

    Toronto FC: Orlando City, D.C., Montreal*, and Chicago

    Orlando City and D.C. each have 12 points from 15 away games (0.8 per game) and Chicago has 5 points from 14 away games. Toronto FC has a better goal differential away than Montreal has at home.

    Red Bulls: Philadelphia, Columbus, and Philadelphia*

    NYCFC: Houston*, D.C.*, and Columbus

    I expect Toronto FC to win the Eastern Conference. Important midweek games are coming with the Red Bulls in the CONCACAF Champions League on Tuesday and Toronto FC hosting Orlando City on Wednesday.

    Edit: T.M. Anthony posted the outcome but not the score. Daniel Royer's first MLS goal was the only goal of our 1-0 win.

    Just don't blow it in a huge way on Wednesday and all will be good to go for advancing to the next round of the CCL.

    Even a loss isn't so bad because Antigua's six points back and down 7 in the first tiebreaker, GD. Unless they go ham against us and Alianza it's almost assured that the Red Bulls are going to advance.

    http://www.concacaf.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/CCL-Regulations-2016-17-version-6-FINAL.pdf says:

    "D. Tie-Breaker Procedures
    1. Stage1:GroupStage
    a. For teams that are tied on points:
    i. Greater number of points earned in matches between the teams concerned;
    ii. Greater goal difference in matches between the teams concerned;
    iii. Greater number of away goals scored in matches between the teams concerned;
    iv. Greater goal difference in all group matches;
    v. Greater number of goals scored in group matches;
    vi. Greater number of away goals scored in all group matches;
    vii. Drawing of lots."

    The Red Bulls beat Antigua 3:0. Antigua must win by at least 4 goals or win 3:0 to make their game against Alianza relevant. If Antigua wins by 3 goals and the Red Bulls score, the Red Bulls would clinch using the head-to-head away goals tiebreaker. If Antigua wins 3:0 and beats Alianza 1:0, the winner would be decided on drawing of lots. If Antigua wins both of their games 4:1, they would have the best goal differential but the Red Bulls would win the group.

    Tuesday's game will be at 8:00 P.M. on Univision Deportes.

    The last Group Stage matchday is in between the last two MLS games, so it's good the Red Bulls will not have a CCL game then.

    Royer's looked the part. Veron is basically a backup striker at this point. I honestly don't see him being on this team at the start of next year due to his salary.

    Watch Veron come on and be a contributor the rest of the way. It could happen.

    Let's face it, RBNY need to get younger and faster out wide. Royer does that. Veron does too, just less.

    Grella? Man, I love his fight, but he may be edging closer to surplus requirements.

    For what it's worth Marsch has said Veron has looked really good in training. He's in the unfortunate position of being a striker/CAM when he plays on a team with one of the best combos in MLS. He's not suited to play the outside mid position in our style and that hurts his playing time.

    BWP and Sasha are both 31. They could potentially have a few more great seasons in the tank. However, management is going to have to think long and hard on what they've seen out of Veron because he is 26 and setup as a direct replacement for either of them. If management believes he is the victim of a logjam at his position(s) then perhaps it's worth keeping him on with eyes towards the future.

    There's also the distinct possibility that Marsch has been trolling the whole league and is waiting to re-unleash the 2 forward setup (if need be) in the playoffs ;)
