I'm often accused of being negative but that's the story. I'm not being negative, I'm just being honest.
We signed Bedoya. We realized his contract increased in 2017. We prioritized moving him because of salary. The league helped us so we didn't have to pay. That's the story. We cheaped out. Literally. We had him. We gave him up to avoid paying a DP. That's it. We didn't know he would be a DP year two. So we scrambled to dump him after we signed him. We're literally that cheap. No interest in an expensive player. Regardless of value, no interest in an expensive player. So we moved him with the help of MLS.
You should talk to Jermaine Jones best friend, he has quite the story about what really happened with Jones and Chicago.
Not sure if you are aware, but they Fire actually is out looking to find someone new to be Sparky, so I think they literally did get rid of Sparky for the 2017 season. This is not a joke.
I don't know what to say. I hope the other owners and MLS HQ are looking for someone else to make Hauptman an offer he has to take. Otherwise, I don't think I would mind having the Fire scrapped like Chivas USA.
WHAT THE FCUK?!?! The ONLY surprise is that this should come as a surprise. THIS IS THE FRELLLLINNNNGGGGGG PROCESSSSSSSSSSSSS. Soylent Green IS people.
I'm not going to name my source (he/she can speak up if he/she chooses to do so and correct any details I'm misremembering). This source has spoken to Jones' friend about it. Short version: Deal was basically done (agreed to verbally at least). I think Jones was even packed and in the process of finding a place in Chicago or the burbs. Hauptman personally took the deal off the table.
More likely, Dad in law realized Mr. Hauptman has no clue how to run a soccer team or anything else and cut off his allowance.
It is this sort of nonsense that will keep that different making midfield general from signing, reputation goes a long way and recent history has not shown the team in a positive light.
2007 was when The Fire had skid marks in their underwear. The underwear haven't been changed since then.
Then JJ holds the most valuable piece of info everyone here needs to truly expose this fire dumpster owner. Wonder what the deal was that payed for his silence. Perhaps it's that it doesn't ********ing matter and that AH has every right to do whatever the ******** he wants. Start tweeting to him about it. Better yet, start tweeting to Wynalda about it.
Who knows why Andrew pulled the offer. What happened with Drogba? There's definitely a pattern here. They're always saying they're interested in some big name but what ends up happening? Diddly squat. Keane money player? Yeah we're still waiting on that as well. I have a feeling (and this is just speculation on my part) that the league was willing to let the Fire have Jones (allocation order be damned), asked Hauptman if he was interested and Andrew answered yes but Andrew had already made up his mind he had no intention of signing him. Why? (speculation again) He wanted to appear in the public eye when the media got wind of the Fire going after Jones that he was making an effort for him (Keane like player) but never wanted to pay for it. I believe the league was duped by Hauptman and made a mad scramble behind the scenes to find an interested party, enter Bob Kraft and New England. The blind draw was a way for the league to save face. Of course that's all speculation on my part but Andrew has proven over the years he's not going to pay for a Keane like player time and time again. He's a liar and coward.
Forgetting Diego Valeri (or someone like that), who was on trial here and almost signed here, but someone "screwed up".
"I mean, I thought I was going to Chicago for sure. And then it all got, um...it all got...I don't know, a little bit shady there"
