Hey guys, I'm new to the Bolivia forums, but not new at BigSoccer at all, I've posted a lot on Bosnian forums either. I'm from Brazil (even though I always posted in Bosnian forums) and a big fan of football at all and from Bolivian football since the 1994 WC. As I didn't see an "Introduction Thread", I decided to post it here, but let's end the off topic and get down to business.

This Copa America might have been sad, as Bolivia went off without any point, but there are some good points we can look at. The match against Chile, was very interesting, the team performed well as a whole, Campos goal was superb and if it wasn't by the ridiculous penalty, the results would have been an 1-1. If this kind of performance was done against Panama, it's a sure thing Bolivia wouldn't lose, but it seems the players doesn't hold a performance line for every game, it goes up and down too much.

The problems I can see is that it seems Baldivieso doesn't have the team at all in his hands, not only by the problems he had with Moreno, but Bolivia could build much more in the midfield, than it actually does and that's usually something that can be charged from the coach work. I hope the experience at this Copa America (it's rare to have two official competitions in two years), helps the team to comeback stronger for the Qualifiers. Of course that it's impossible at this point, to aim a place at Russia, but the team can start to set it's roots, for the 2022 WC Qualifiers, starting now! More young players should have a chance, it's important to develop them and give experience.

What you guys think, does Bolivia stands a chance for 2022? The young players coming up in the Bolivian teams, can make an impact soon? I like Bolivia a lot and I miss seeing Bolivia with a competitive team, like the golden days of Etcheverry, Erwin Sanchez and the legends who did a great job in the 90's!

It's good to get a fresh point of view on these threads, personally I tried not to follow the games because I was not optimistic about our performance. Reason is that it wouldn't matter who the coach is, they never get enough time to work with the players and when they do get time they don't have the correct training facilities. I don't think Russia is within reach, I believe we need to work hard and get on the same page, meaning one leader for our soccer not three heads that never pull the same direction. There's a few good young players coming up that play in competitive leagues, hopefully those guys are pulled together and given time in order to have a competitive team.

Any chance we get three points against Peru in La Paz?

I would like to think yes. Peru and Bolivia are traditionally on par, notwithstanding the Chile Copa. But we get the home field advantage. I think it is a winnable game specially now that we have Martins back.

Now Chile in Chile, that's a whole 'nother story!

I got to say I wasn't optimistic, I'm glad I was wrong. Specially wasn't happy to see Quinonez over Lampe, but it worked out. This win means we live to fight another day. It may be useless unless our guys have the game of their lives and are lucky in Chile. Getting a point there would be amazing, that said it's highly unlikely, hope the stars align and we get a good result.

Then again in Copa America we almost tied and would have were in not for the completely made up penalty in overtime... and that was without Martins or Raldes...yup, I think Chile should win, but it is not completely unthinkable that we get 1 point...

True, Then again we'll be in Chile....
It's not unthinkable for us to get a point it's just that everything would have to go our way for that to happen. I do want to see how Smedberg, Martins and Escobar link up, it's safe to assume that Campos is out due to concussion. Once again hoping things to go our way even if it is a long shot.

I'm always optmistic, do you remember that 2-2 not to long ago in Chile, 2 goals scored by Saucedo.

First game with no goals scored in years. This shows the difference that Raldez makes in defense. Of course he's not the same as 5 years ago, but he still transmits confidence to rest of the defense and it's a true leader back there.

Great to see Escobar to show up when he was needed, Saavedra was amazing, best game for Florez ever, same Quiñones we loved in copa america. Martins is still pretty good, I think he will complement well with Duk up there against Chile.

I'm no too convinced with Duk. He plays for the NY Cosmos, I go to the games and to be honest he has not impressed as of late. He works hard and runs the entire time he's out there, however he hasn't shown an ability to break a defense down w the dribble, he could finish but needs service. If you pair him w Moreno, Duk will have to play the support role because I don't think Moreno will play anything but the target man, for they reason I'd rather have Arce with Moreno.

We Take a point from Chile in Chile, this team is starting to look like a a real team. I don't know what Hoyos is doing different, but it's working. I can't recall the last time we took 4 out of 6 points. Now we have hope to be able to keep on fighting. We may have woke up a bit too late to fight for a spot but at least we have a shot. It'll be interesting to see how the team responds next game. Very happy with the point, I'll sleep like a baby tonight.

Great game for Lampe! the guy hit his prime kinda late, but we have two good keepers with him and Quiñones.

Azogue has been consistent in the NT and for Oriente for a while now, he had a great game today too running up and down for over 100 minutes! At 21 years old he deserves a chance to try his luck outside of Bolivia. (Same goes for Savedra)

What's up with the ref adding 5 minute in the first half and 8 minutes in the second half!? That's fuking insane! Conmebol trying to qualify Chile...

He's working them mentally. He's taking lessons from Barcelona and what he did wiht Bolivar that first year they took points in Chile and Colombia in the Libertadores. He has them believing and the pressure he has the backline pushing into Chile???

Who does that?? Mexico tried and got murdered. Somehow though, his lineup has confidence and even when there's some mess ups the clearances turn into controlled counters.

He's a great coach and I AM HAPPY my pick is there doing what I thought he could do. He's working them physically with what he did in Bolivar taking tests on their heart rates, fitness, blood, etc. So he knows which guys are fit despite age and can handle that style of play. I am going to rewatch the game today because I was only watching it half and half.

But with Hoyos, he's big into the 'Bielsa' style of pressing and movement off the ball, all players attack and defend. Martins has been unbelieveable and shows how stupid Baldi is to have not had him from the beginning.

Raldes too, under this style of play, he's the wiley veteran that controls the backline and can control/clear it with accuracy or distribute. We have something dangerous here....I just hope we can stay healthy.

    But Hoyos has me believing......

To be honest I was not thrilled when I heard he was named . He was here in the US in the NASL, at Jacksovile Armada, didn't do well at all the team never looked like a unit out there. Maybe it was the fact that the team doesn't spend much. He's doing well with our NT, I hope he can keep it up.

I think the advantage he has (and why he does good in Bolivia) is that he understands our poor futbol reality, but doesn't use it as an excuse. Rather he tries to compensate with hard work and motivating and bringing our players together. I don't expect miracles, we will certainly not qualify to the WC but all we need is some progress - a light at the end of the tunnel.

He's also has a plan for our youth system - he's trying to install three coaches teams in La Paz, Cochabamba and Santa Cruz (each team consisting of 4 coaeches) that will follow, recruit and consistently train youth teams at U15, U17, and U20. FBF just receive $3 million from CONMEBOL that say's it's going to use for this purpose, let's hope this is finally the change we've been asking for so long... I really hope they let Hoyos do his thing, he clearly knows what he's doing - specially when it comes with youth teams giving his experience in the matter.

Brasil is making it hard for our NT to arrive fresh to the venue/game. Not only is it the furthest posible venue from Bolivia, there was an unexpected landing for a check from customs in Brasilia.

Im hoping for a 0-0 tie which is doable and everybody knows it no matter how hard they say otherwise.

Well that's embarassing. Bolivia tried to play the middle and looked good at times but coverage in the middle was horrible. The call ups were bad from the get go. Only leaves the question of why not play with the hybrid formation we used away v. Chile.

I don't think there's a magic pill that any one Coach can apply to our situation. Hoyos hit it in the head the first couple of games, big let down the next two. We need to work on our youth development, we can forget about Russia and worry about the next World Cup working on the younger players. How is it possible that we don't have one coach working our younger players year round? Think about it here in the US they have heads coaches starting with U14, working year round, calling different players going to games and taking them to tournaments. What do we do? Look at 60 players in 3 days and move on to another 60 and then form a team from there, probably making the lineup in the plane. Just frustrating to see it over and over again, without a change.

Rumor is that Hoyos has accepted the job of U de Chile. With the U-20 wcq weeks away I feel this is back stabbing of the worst kind.

Not surprised. I think any coach with half a pride would take a similar position. 4 pts taken away as a result of pure negligence...in Bolivia he competes for nothing anymore.

Hoyos didn't even have a contract with the FBF. Soria took over the under-20 and after moving the entire operation from Sucre to Cochabamba, he flexed his muscles by throwing out the only player with real chances of being seen and getting something abroad.
I went to high school with Soria, and the nickname "El Loco" was already well established back then.

Yep. Threw Hoyos under the bus too.

Hoyos is class. I don't blame him for leaving. I think he'd actually stay if we didn't get those 4 points taken away
