Suarez was the biggest miss of Wenger's career. If we offer 60-65, does Liverpool agree to sell him?

I'm not sure they could have said no to that. He signs, we probably win the league twice.

why should Arsenal have paid more than the buyout clause?

The mistake was we overplayed Suarez's interest in Arsenal. If he was really interested, he would have fought to move.

I respect your opinion and it seems everyone else agrees with you but I rate Wilshere very highly because I've seen how good he can be when fit. Agree to disagree though.

When did you see this? The problem with Wilshere is not what we see him do, its everything else. His starting positioning is usually poor, he ball watches and his danger sense is low. On the ball he is probably the best player of his generation though so I guess that is worth something.

I don't think we can complain about the number or the rank, but the way it was spent wasn't necessarily the best.

We've got value with Ox, Chambers, JC, at least that we can't use. Maybe JC can appreciate with a good loan, but we need to cash in on Ox and Chambers (any maybe a couple others as well). In today's market, I figure the three of them are worth 50MM GBP. If we had done that, and maybe saved on the 17MM GBP for Lucas (or maybe not), we could have pushed into a higher quality offensive player of some sort, depending on who was available.

Arranging a transfer fee (and being able to afford it) isn't the only part of getting a player but it's a good head start. Certainly we could have afforded Mkhitaryan's wages (neglecting for the moment any secondary effects on the team's wage structure). We could have hit Griezmann's buyout clause.

Depends by what you mean by "on the ball" ... technical skill with the ball in his possession? Then I agree. Actual product on the pitch with the baall at his feet? You couldn't be more wrong.

Sure, he has the ability to create space, avoid a defender and hit a brilliant pass. But he is massively more likely to go head down, dribble into 3 defenders, passing up 2+ passes to players in better position before either being tackled and losing the ball, or having the sh1t kicked out of himself, THEN being tackled and losing the ball.

He's like Jason Williams or Jamal Crawford or JR Smith. Overrated because his skills blind people to his deficiencies.

Yep, crazy technique. Why not show the Norwich goal, it was even better. Of course he has only scored 12 goals in 160 games for us. Now go show us film of him letting us get destroyed by Liverpool or giants like Aston Villa because of his positional and tactical ineptitude.

He met the buyout clause! And would have broken Arsenal's transfer record in the process.

If that's not splashing the cash, I don't know what is.

    Apparently we did

Apparently conversations with whoever the proposed madness was started last summer. If true, this was a situation where we couldn't persuade the player to leave.

I think it's more a case of getting, and then tweeting, really preliminary information, which is often like throwing darts.

Ok, why not this, for the hell of it:

    Cech

    Bellerin -- Mustafi -- Kos -- Monreal

    Coquelin -- Ramsey -- Xhaka

    Ozil

    Sanchez -- Giroud

Remember that there probably never was an enforceable buyout clause. Therefore Wenger's failure to meet Liverpool's price is why the deal did not go through.

Nope, there was a buyout clause, Liverpool's owner admitted it. They chose to ignore it, Suarez was the only one with legal standing and would have needed to choose legal action and he decided not to. Liverpool gambled and won.

I actually like that but I would flip Xhaka & Ramsey and then put ElNeny or Cazorla in for Coq.

Mkitharyan only wanted to go to United. I don't think we were ever truly in for him. It's like Mahrez, we probably made an inquiry at best, and were told were to go.

As far as Mkhitaryan goes, that's not what we were led to believe. United wasn't on radar for the first part of June and Dortmund were trying to get him to renew his contract (he wouldn't). it wasn't until the end of the month when Wenger gave up on it because of wages and agent's fees.

I had forgotten about ElNeny (my bad), would've put him in to have 2 box-to-box types along with Xhaka

    Oh lords NO~!

    Anyhow, I'd do that:

    Cech

    Bellerin -- Koscielny -- Mustafi -- Monreal

    ElNeny -- Xhaka -- Ramsey

    Ozil

    Giroud -- Sanchez

Two B2Bers in Rambo and ElNeny, Ozil in the middle pulling the strings, Sanchez thinks he's playing with Chile and Giroud can play off of Sanchez.
