First, I miss Landon Donovan. Second, as for Wondo, how come he stands so tall in MLS yet absolutely stinks up the place on the national team? His MLS performances are so good, yet his national team performances are so bad. Why does he not make the transition? And how many chance does Klinnsman give him? Getting back to LD, wow, looking back Klinnsman really had it out for him. Wondo must be one of his favorites for some reason.
Klinsmann brings him on as teh 18th man I think. He's a guy Klinsmann probably would rather not use, and keeps him there for training purposes/leader/show the kids how to train type thing. But if you want a guy to run at defenses and kill himself to kill off a game or a 'bunkering' type of forward...he's your man. That's the most positive thing I can say about what I've seen of Wondo and read from his trainning habits...
Wondo is not and has never been one of our best international forwards. JK acknowledges Wondo is with the US primarily as a locker room guy, which is fine, but it was deeply foolish to play him against teams above pre-hex level? He hasn't been the same since that Argentina match. Why humiliate a player? http://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2016/...is-wondolowski-hes-extremely-important-player
I don't think Wondolowski is currently one of the best five American forwards, and I don't think he should be called in for qualifiers unless the injury situation is dire. Having said that - the replay of that goal gives a sense of why he's been so successful in MLS. Notice how he clearly anticipates that rebound before anyone else does. In terms of finding the right place at the right time, I'm not sure there's been anyone better for the USA.
Now Jond, let's be fair here. Wondo may be a better rapper than Clint! And before you say "But we've never heard Wondo rap!", that's exactly my point!
We go through this every time. he scores vs some scrubs, gets out in vs the big boy ans stinks the shit up
I do want to note: that's an especially valuable quality in CONCACAF away games, because positioning is one thing that isn't affected by poor playing surfaces.
Everyone here wants him to stop being used, especially against good teams, but aren't we allowed to give kudos when they're earned?
Nobody in the hex is the level of this crap Cuba team. I still don't think there's a use for him in any important game.
who would have thought he'd have a shot with the NT 5 years ago. The dude is the Everyman that you root for
