yeah honestly id put money (like a buck) on nycfc falling behind red bull/us tbh. Toronto is now in the drivers seat and should win the east and maybe make a run at the shield.
My mind is still blown that Curtin only used 2 subs. Several guys looked gassed and they play again on Saturday. If you have that little confidence in the bench, what does that say about the supposed "depth" we've built?
The only have 4 wins. So Supporters Shield gets the first CCL spot, then the winner of the opposing conference. I think if TFC wins the east then it would fall back into the SS standings. In that case it will likely be another West team. Also TFC may easily take the SS since they aren't going to cannibalize each other like the West is going to do.
They have a history under Curtin of subbing fresh legs in, totally losing their chemistry, and giving up the game-tying goal anyway. Columbus basically set up base camp outside our box in the last 10 minutes and forced some serious team defense. Obviously if they scored it's a different story, but I won't criticize him for the non-sub after the 80' mark.
What sub would you have made? The remaining subs were: McCarthy Gaddis Tribbett Fernandes Restrepo You're not going to bring in McCarthy or Tribbett. Bringing in Gaddis and playing 5 in the back is a stretch. Maybe bring in Fernandes or Restrepo for Sapong Barnetta or Bedoya? Not sure that provides a net positive though. All three looked pretty strong at the end of the match.
Fabi was gassed and took multiple impacts that required trainer assistance so I wouldn't have been opposed to a Fabi / Ray sub.
I only sort of buy that as an excuse. If you sub someone on during something like a set piece (a total no-no), the confusion and miscommunication of who's marking who is usually to blame for a goal conceded. But outside of Bedoya, this is the team we've had all season. Curtin should make it a point during the week to do situational drills for this very common occurrence late in games so that all gameday personnel are able to come on and do a job to close out a game. Any loss of chemistry is down to a lack of preparedness, and that has to fall on the coaching staff (speaking theoretically here, so this would pertain to any team/coaching staff and isn't a dig on Curtin and Co.).
We should be aiming for third place and praying to Lord Cheese Fries that Columbus somehow nabs sixth.
I dont think i would have put old diabeetus foot in...i would stick with fabi until the wheels fall off
