Apparently we sent two representatives to Southhampton today to finalize the deal for Fonte which is going to be for £8 million. Not a bad price really.
Lots of talk about #SaintsFC captain Jose Fonte but from what I hear he is not going anywhere— Simon Peach (@SimonPeach) August 11, 2016
Simon Stone retweeted a tweet from a dodgy account (Vincent Rodriguez) about it. Usually I wouldn't bother but Stone is very well connected to Jose and Utd in general, so there might be something in it.
Given Soton's stance on the matter, coupled with the fact that Everton might have recently made a similar offer allegedly, it will take more to get them to sell, in all likelyhood. But I definitely believe a deal is possible: just can't be cheap about it.
Whatever "informal" means in this situation. Reports of an official bid this coming week for Fonte. http://www.espnfc.co.uk/story/29293...an-united-target-southampton-defender-sources
Mourinho's transfer strategy paid off Jose Mourinho believes his transfer strategy has paid off after Manchester United landed four top targets this summer in Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Paul Pogba. The boss had already made his mind up which positions needed strengthening and presented his ideas to the board with clarity and conviction. Thanks to the club's hard work behind the scenes, the stellar signings have been announced ahead of the start of the Premier League season. "First of all, I didn't buy these players," stressed Mourinho. "I don't have enough money to pay these amounts! Credit should go to the club and the potential the club has, not just financially, but in what the club means to the world of football, which helps attract players. I think I gave a contribution because I was very objective. I think some managers have doubts and find it difficult to decide. The clubs get the impression that you are not so sure on a signing. I was objective from day one. Of course, I have been in the country for many years and was able to watch United many times from December, so I had an idea about the squad. When I arrived, I was ready to be objective and could say what I wanted to have and explain the numbers I wanted for each position. That way, if you could not get option one, you go for the second or third. Every time, I made a written report to the board, the board could feel consistency in the analysis," he continued. "The targets were there on the table, so, after that, the club's powers did everything. They were very strong, doing everything before the 14th. They could do it by 30 August, but no, they did everything much earlier. I am very happy with the market."
This is what Moyes should have done rather than take a vacation and then use most of the summer to evaluate his players before making any decisions -- the one decision being bringing in Fellaini. Jose used his time well and presented to the board his wish list and got it done. Why this was so difficult for Moyes is unfathomable.
He thought the machine will work on auto pilot, happens to alot of people moving to big positions, they think there is little work up there.
Deer in headlights. Or perhaps better put, Gollum in the headlights. The job was too big for Moyes and it was always obvious that he was destined to be sacked before season's end. We've finally sorted out the managerial problem. Watching Liverpool right now (4-2 up on Arsenal) I'm now concerned about them but I really like our chances of bringing the trophy back where it belongs.
Varane apparently snubbed United a few weeks ago. He was always going to be a longshot anyways as Real would probably not have sanctioned the move either. Forgot how relatively urgent getting a CB is, despite having Bailly, as he will be unavailable for January with the ACN. Fonte looks like a real possibility and if we can't get a top guy like Varane or Bonucci, he becomes a very attractive option for reasons previously explained.

West Brom appear to be leading the chase to take CBJ on loan, but West Ham are said to be interested as well. There are rumblings that it could be it for Darmian, with Napoli reportedly ready to pounce if he is made available. Would be pretty disappointing, don't mind saying if that end up being the case...
Don't think it's wise to loan out CBJ. He needs to be Shaw's back up. I agree too that we should not give up on Darmian yet.
Exactly. Which is why I don't understand Jose doesn't use him as the back up defender on the bench instead of Rojo. I really wish we would sell Rojo.
His ability to play on either flank is for me the main reason I do not want to see him go (aside from the fact we still have not seen anywhere near his best). As far as BoJack is concerned, it was disappointing to hear that Jose wanted to send him out on loan but tbh, as much as he'd be solid cover for Shaw, we're still good in that dept with Blind and Darmian alone (should he stay).

Tbf, Moyes was still manager at Everton and not free like Mourinho. Plus he was taking over a team running away with the league with a new chief executive after SAF like institution leaving at the top, so probably both didn't know how much and what to change in a short span and kept dithering.
