MY favorite quote from the article " Budzinski argues that the Likens began making decisions without him, including negotiating agreements for the Comets to change leagues, signing an arena lease, approving employment agreements with players and other matters." http://www.bizjournals.com/kansasci...ssouri-comets-management-dispute-lawsuit.html
This is not making this situation any better http://www.excellesports.com/news/fc-kansas-city-sexually-demeaning-emails/
This will be the bigger talking point of the whole thing. The Comets lawsuit will fade into the background.
So the "Comets" owner sues the Likens and then these emails from them are leaked a day later? So where can we take bets on the "anonymous" source of the leak?
Wow. This is a way bigger story. Either A- emails are fake. Whoever faked them may have a good case for hiring a lawyer to defend themselves in a defamation of character suit Or B- emails are legitimate. Which if you get caught you should immediately apologize. Saying their fake if they are not just compounds issues. I don't LIKEN the chances of the Comets surviving this.... unless a new owner is found soon.
Agreed, this lawsuit between owners is not good for the future of the franchise. Either the current owners of the Comets need to sell off the team (and quickly) or the lawsuit needs to be settled and the unhappy Budzinski needs to be bought out by the Likens (and quickly). We are seeing a lot of smoke, and the fact that the proverbial fire is burning at one of the more successful teams is troubling.
One has to believe that owners who sue each other can't be good for the business at hand. They will concentrate on the lawsuit more than the clubs. I would think someone would buy the NWSL club before the Comets. Hopefully they can quickly sell both clubs and take the suit out of the spotlight.
Seems to be a recurring theme that some owners are far more interested in the dance team than anything else. They just completely lose the plot about anything else.
Agreed - what player (current or free agents) in their right mind would sign with a team that has so many clouds hanging over it? The Comets have no head coach and now a splashy lawsuit. I would be reluctant to invest money as a team sponsor until the lawsuit is quickly settled or new owners take over. Regardless of how much merit the lawsuit has, the team is not going to be able to move forward to next season unless a fast settlement happens or new owners take over the Comets. Making insulting comments to the media (as the Likens' side has done) about the lawsuits only dumps gasoline on the fire. Poor legal advice IMO. Releasing the suggestive emails is having the same negative effect. A pox on both their houses ( hat tip to Shakespeare). I agree that the KC area women's soccer team is the better investment between the two teams. There is no evidence that indoor soccer is becoming more stable. Though if I were going to 'invest' in soccer, I would be more likely to buy a piece of an MLS, USL, or MLS team. Or buy stock in a soccer equipment company.
Coach steps does, Comets owners sue one another ,Emails are leaked , What's next ? President of the MASL
well now Brad Likens is saying the emails are fake http://www.thebluetestament.com/201...ty-owners-linked-to-sexually-demeaning-emails
During the MLS All Star game at half time when they were interviewing the Commissioner I am pretty sure he said that only eight teams in MLS turned a profit. I think this lawsuit is a pissing match as both sides want to be owners. I hope they improve pre game activities ,promotions and advertisement all which sucked ass last year. The organization needs to advertise both products and promote, promote, promote. The down side is that they have seemed to screw over people to the point where the most famous Comet ever Gino Schiraldi wants noting to do with the group. There are at least five other facilities the comets could practice at. They have a great bunch of players and all the team is active in the local sports scene coaching and running clubs. I work for one of these such players and clubs. They are the ones that will suffer and I will support them by buying the tickets. My season tickets are already paid for. It would be nice if somebody like former Ed Scheetz would step up and buy the team.
I hope the Comets survive but my gut feeling is that a new ownership group will likely need to step in to make it happen. I think someone will step up as an 'angel investor' but they need to do it soon. If it is true that no players are under contract, the Comets will likely see at least some players sign elsewhere while this lawsuit and lack of head coach continues. Some players are fully rooted in the KC area and won't move but some may go for the right opportunity elsewhere. I wish the Comets the best, they have a solid fan base and great arena. This owner versus owner lawsuit mess is a huge problem for a minor league team in a very minor and underfunded league. Limited funds are now being spent on attorneys, who are likely to be the only winners here.
Ed was a great guy and cared for every player he brought in. In his eyes he never viewed them as a tax write off. Its to bad he passed away.
Off the top of my head, Sports Lodge, All American (either facility), Z-Sports, Soccer Lot, I can't think of the fifth.
