Freddy's not ruined. His life is fine. He's presumably rich, and likes to watch blockbuster films from his sofa.

I once thought the airport was moving planes around to trap me as I was in the process of coming down from such an experience.

Freddy can Gdansk if he wants to
We can leave his friends behind
'Cause his friends don't Gdansk and if they don't Gdansk
Well, they're no friends of mine

I really doubt that. He's lived richly, that's for sure. But I imagine he's now closer to bankruptcy than to wealth.

I don't know what that means.

But it doesn't mesh well with Stouffers ads and 70s porn style camera photos of him vacuuming in crappy apartments.

He's slumming it because he's got his millions on lock down.

I'm sure Freddy has most of his millions locked down in sound investments.

I can see that possibility. But do we really have any evidence of him spending foolishly?

    Ad-hominem much?

Scrub. Still doing work though in Bolivia. Had a sweet assist for blooming in the copa Sudamericana as a mid 30 something.

Was never a fan of his. Overrated cause of the Etcheverry hype. But we taking Freddy or Bolivia?

You might say Freddy has faded into Bolivian.

Well, frankly, him not spending now is just as likely a sign that he's always been frugal and careful.

I'm asking if there was EVER evidence of lavish spending, cars, homes, girls. I mean he went to clubs and took pictures with girls. And once he smoked hookah. The vacuum ads? I dunno, who knows. God knows the Rowdies aren't paying him much, maybe he's maintaining a budget.

The only real anecdote I remember is he didn't buy anything until he was 16 and then he got a BMW. Just because the US soccer community didn't shepherd his soccer skills all too well doesn't mean he didn't listen to his mom about his money and find good advice in that regard.

I come here for one liners ... and I ain't disappointed.

He had some big time agents helping him ... probably helping him keep mom away from the stash.

BTW, one of the first stories I remember reading was about a basketball player, signing his first pro contract and buying a Rolls Royce. That was before the Bird-Magic era, when wages were high but not stratospheric as they are now. IIRC, the contract was $120K/Y and RR was $60K.

And the income tax was 50%.

Everyone's slamming Freddy Adu's career... but here's a slightly different perspective... well, he was slated to become the next Pele right? ... Pele played in Brazil before finished out his career playing for New York Cosmos... well, Freddy Adu played in Brazil and is now playing for Tampa Bay Rowdies... so in a way he did follow in Peles footsteps... same same but... different. You just need to take out the three world cup wins and 1,300 goals or whatnot and he's pretty much followed Peles career verbatim.

From early reports when he was really young, it did sound like his mom was old school, meaning she would kick his ass if he blew his money on wine women and song. Probably did him some good and he's wisely saved for the future. I'd rather see a Freddy living in an apartment with 10M in the bank than in a 10M home (and a 100K mortgage) and no money in the bank.

I think Freddy is fine financially. He had that enormous contract with Benfica.
One thing that will separate a highly paid athlete from his money is a gambling habit. I've never heard anything of Adu in casinos. Also, divorce can be very expensive, and Freddy hasn't gone through that.

He now needs to figure something to do for the next 40 years, because I'm confident he is done as a pro soccer player.

    It wasn't that big.

IIRC...it was 5 years at either 700k euros or 800k euros per year.

Then he want on loans with the other club "paying" a portion.....then stiffing him.

Not chump change of course....but not enormous.

Freddy invested in Apple stocks. That's why he's so wealthy.

He got plenty of endorsements and was paid a lot by the big companies during those campaigns. Emelia (Freddy's mom) is a positive influence on him. Reportedly Freddy wanted to buy her a big fancy house, but she convinced him not to be a fool, so their little home in Maryland was paid off long ago.

Freddy doesn't go around wasting money, the wildest thing he's done was smoking that hookah, and even his two-chick pics happened during diverse ad campaigns when he was part of public events to make money.

So far Mrs. Adu is around, I wouldn't worry about Fredua's finances.

It was more than that. He was earning for Benfica 1.1 million usd back then.
