All you need to do is score 1 goal if the opponent scores 0. It's a shame Korea wasn't more efficient, why take 5 shots when you're only going to score 1 goal. /sarcasm off
he did something similar against germany with his second effort to win back the ball and shield a defender. he does small things that i rarely see from a korean footballer, let alone one his age. he shouldn't be relied onto score but he's a great piece to have on the starting eleven
Who's watching the jp vs swe game? I don't really want to post on their thread...ok to talk about it here? In one way another it is relevant to a certain degree... Any gyopo's on the jp team? I thought there were two...not that I'm rooting for them... Go Sweden. ps...Per capita S.Korea is second for metals within the Top 10?
Korea: Oh sweet~ we dont have to meet Portugal or Argentina Honduras: Oh sweet~ we dont have to meet Germany or Mexico
Son helped out more than just expected level on defensive end, and in particular was one of few options who could bring the ball past halfway but the heavy load and/or frustratingly few chances seemed to impact Son around the box though. The inability for our fullbacks to bring the ball up wide or our CMs/DMs to connect a pass to a Korean player means that any offensive player would struggle. When we did get the ball forward, we did ok and had some nice passing combinations. If we got to do more than the handful of times, perhaps we'd have a different judgement of our offensive players. Like HHC helping out with some good running all match, the block to help setup the goal, or pressing Mexico when they did have the ball deep, our guys contributed in less noticeable ways.
I thought Lee Seul Chan did well. Maybe he can be our future RB. I mean there's no one to play in that position.
Our expectations are so low compared to SSM. The sub was skinning him alive but at least LSC slowed him down and didn't give the ball right back.
I thought he did well not to get bypassed by lozano. He didn't take the ball from him but atleast he made sure he didn't lose one on one. He just made sure he can get enough reinforcement in Central Defence so it was hard for the Mexican to connect the crosses.
A few thoughts and conclusions (within the context that we're future looking for 2018): 1. Jang Hyun-soo needs to play CB for KNT. I think this is his original position and he's been playing out of it since Hitler and Shin took over. He's the type of player that is considered too good to play CB but not good enough to play offense. His passing is better than most CB's and his defense is better than most MF's. But he is no DMF and he cannot distribute the ball adequately. 2. Kwon Chang-hoon needs to play deeper in the central midfield role. He is a central player, he hustles, he can pass, he can dribble and is a rare breed where he can shoot from distance. I can't think of many Korean players that could've scored that goal today. For us to have any hopes of any decent possession, he needs to fulfill this role along side of Ki. 3. Hwang Hee-chan is more than ready; he is required. The more I watch him play, the more I am impressed. He is rough, needs a bit of polishing but he is a type of forward that we never had before. Hwang is a true shadow striker, a false 9 and a winger. He is really everything but a CF. Which is fine because he enables offense; he creates space, makes runs, can beat a defender(s), and is decent at crossing. His play is well beyond his years as evidenced by that basketball screen he did for Kwon Chang-hoon's goal today. If Austrian 2nd division is turning people off: remember, we've previously had the following CV's playing forward for KNT in my recent memory: Lee Dong-guk: Pohang Jechul Highschool Lee Jung-yup: Sangju Sangmu bench (2nd Division, Korea) Lee something: J-League 2nd Division Tripple J: Professional movement, giver of heads, and model Kim Shinwook: CB turned CF. Professional giver of heads but can't score Kwak Tae-hee: Starting CB that is better at heads than the player above Lee Chun-soo: Bupyong Highschool / Korea University Choi Tae-uk: Bupyong Highschool / Anyang LG At this point, we need to throw Hwang in there and unlike 2014, we actually have a fairly decent number of options. It's not a question whether Hwang belongs on KNT; it is more of a question of where he plays and whether he starts or not. Other: 4. Shim Sang-min: I am convinced that we would've played better without Shim, with 10 men instead.
