"3. Hope Solo Luckily, the USWNT still has the world's best keeper to save its backline during its bouts of sloppiness." Backline or Backside
Yes, in a match where a lot of people where quiet, Heath did a lot but Im not ready to organize a parade. One of the reasons the attackers didnt do much is because Heath held the ball too long. They either made runs and the ball didnt get to them, didnt make runs because they were trying to guess when Heath was going to give it up or got caught off side while the ball was being played with. The goal goes to Morgan Brian much like the Morgan goal the match before. Brian did what Heath was trying to do all match...find a player in space with a shot on goal. Brian just made a simple pass. No step overs required. The goal then came because Heath put her shot on frame and both Lloyd and Dunn got in front of goal as in their job description.
They could also try not smoking like fiends on off-days, but maybe that would be considered un-French.
I just wanted to make sure there wasn't a new term from the urban dictionary: "Deployable - adj. - so bad you'd like to send her into a combat zone"
On Long, I don't think that she had a bad game, but on a day when our midfield was overrun for long stretches of the game, I just don't see giving POTM to a midfielder. Long actually did a decent job at containing some of the French players, like Abily, who was pretty much a non-factor in the match. However, if I was ranking all the players who got minutes, there'd be several ahead of Long, including Solo, Heath, and Sauerbrunn. But its not the first time the POTM award has left me scratching my head, and it certainly won't be the last. On Dunn's yellow, I'd agree that the call was inconsistent with the way the referee was calling the rest of the match. However, taken as a single decision, I can see it. Even if I still think it was a soft yellow, I personally wouldn't label it as 'odd' or 'wrong.'
While applauded by the broadcast for her tackles, I didn't like her trail leg especially when it lingered. I thought a few which were celebrated could have been cards.
deplloydable - adj., archaic; someone you can assign or put into action ("deploy") full-time without substitution in whatever position she wants to play. Derogatory term until c. 2015
i agree with the above... many times the attack completely stopped because heath virtually stopped with the ball to size up a defender. when she plays fast the whole team is better.
No, the problem is it didn't affect her judgement-- that was just Bouhaddi being Bouhaddi; wasn't the first time we have seen that sort of thing, and I doubt it will be the last...
This match did little to settle the debate on defense. The reality is that O'Hara looked better on defense because Dunn spent her time doing half of the defending on O'Hara's side of the pitch. When Dunn was subbed for Krieger, O'Hara moved up into Dunn's midfield position. O'Hara did not provide the cover for Keriger that Dunn provided for her. There is no apples to apples comparison. I was not happy with how Krieger looked out there, but the team was playing downright stupid at that point.
Some really needs to walk me thru what Bouhaddi is thinking because this goes from bad to inconceivable.
I still don't understand why a 'keeper thought shielding the ball in the corner was a good idea. She was fortunate nothing came of it when the US won the ball.
Even after the ill fated shielding, when its clear the ball isnt going out a sane person blasts it high up into the stands and runs back to her position
Obviously I'm a US fan, but this play actually made me angry. It just didn't make sense at all. Even now, it frustrates me to think about that play.
other than the occasional mary jane (among nfl/nba players), i don't think top athletes smoke any more.
Well they have to at least hold lit cigarettes or they dont get an respect in the French coffee houses.
If Morgan had found a white shirt with her cross after digging it out Bouhaddi should have just walked straight from that corner into the French locker room.
But alas, nobody was joining Morgan in the attack. We needed just one girl to say "What the hell... I'm making a run on goal." But instead, everyone sat back readying themselves to absorb the next French attack. A shame.
