Okay, you are entitled to your opinion an I respect it. I think your remarks about "signing for signing sake" is a bit of a strawman. No one is saying that...yes, we all want something shiny and that can come through, but what we are itching for is an attempt at improvement. Signing a player that is risky or one for depth is not a signing for signings sake.

Improvement can come from within, but we don't see that in June and July. This summer has gone much like last and many of us are getting anxious that the coming season will mirror the last. In fact, we may be less equipped. Last season we needed a little depth in CM considering flamini, artetas age, jacks injury record, and Coq's mere half season of adequacy. Up front we had Alexis, Giroud, healthy Walcott, and healthy Danny and many still thought we needed a new forward to compete.

This year, Alexis is unfit, Danny is hurt, theo is coming off a mediocre year and Giroud had a long summer with France. If we had trouble scoring last season, I see nothing that suggest we will have an easier time of it this one.

Tbh in our system ben yed der would be good. Anyone quick who can finish with a degree of dribbling ability is perfect

I honestly think berahino is worth a gamble. Size doesn't really matter in a posession based team and we have giroud on the bench if required

    What about inaki williams?

he does obsessively monitor players for "injury risk" via the amount of ground they cover but he will, as @bandwagongooner said, go ahead and run guys "in the red zone". and fairly frequently. he will nix availability at the slightest suggestion (possibility?) of a soft muscle injury prior to the game (which, i think is why our "recovery rate" tends to become exaggerated) but, in-game, he will gladly risk a head injury and bring in a cold player without a second thought.

    it's . . . confusing.

Don't know much about his game but looking at the various resources I can find I think I would be ok with this signing. We aren't getting a world class ST at this point. Chances are we aren't getting an immediate OG replacement. All the guys we are linked with are rated at 30mil+ and then you look at this guy that is rumored to be rated under 10mil but at 25 years old he has put up 15+ goals each of the last 4 seasons. He also appears to have pretty good pace and passing ability. Not the big name we want but may be a very good fit for our system.

chamakh is the ultimate punchline to all jokes now but, at the beginning of that season, he did not suck and was a credible backup. it was only after being relegated to splinter collection for an extended period did he become scared and hesitant*. if wenger gave a fuck at all about rotation, not only would van persie have had a chance to be out of the aforementioned red zone (being van persie, it would not have eliminated the possibility of injuries altogether but would have lowered the probability), chamakh would have had a chance to play more than 3 minutes to end the game for months on end until he had zero confidence and form.

*sure, we can argue all day about him being mentally weak and all that but it is unfair to say that he was poor from the get go.

As I recall, chamakh had some very serious off the field issues that really affected him

this ben yammer guy, an unknown granted, but his record in Ligue 1 is similar to Lacazette's. He could do a job for us, if he can translate that form for us.

Leicester plays PSG on saturday at the same venue Arsenal play on Sunday. Hopefully Mahrez can handle the back to back.

Wrong season? I'm referring to 2011/2012.

    Chamakh scored in 2010/2011

Yedder got low center of gravity, which I dig. I can't say much more about him tho.

    Yup, lack of talent.

wenger overall is past it, but then he still does have an eye for talent. Santos is the only truly shitty signing he last made, that was five years ago. If this is his only striker signing, it's bad.

I'm glad Juve bought Higuain because I didn't want him for the prices being thrown around, but not happy that they paid so much. Validates a lot of the "crazy market for strikers" talk and now every team will expect stupid money for their players. As someone who doesn't watch Juve at all, I wonder if this makes Dybala more available or if they plan to use them both simultaneously. If not Dybala, Pogba is surely a goner, as Juve aren't rich enough to pull 75M out of their pockets. That's probably a big chunk of the Pogba money out the door.

Wenger on Lacazette: "Lyon are responsible for their own statements, we like to keep our transfer business secret."

Pretty much confirms we are in for him. Does someone have the press conference?

    Dybala and Higuain will partner.

With how Arsenal are with money, we have no chance at Dybala unless he gets a major injury.

It's interesting to think about what would have happened had Arsenal managed to sign Ozil before he went to RM.

At this point, Lacazette will not move for less than 55-60 M Euros. OL is not desperate for money, have a brand new stadium and are in CL.
For that amount though, I would rather go for Mahrez who I consider a superior all around player, one who would fill a major void on the RW. I would take a punt as well on Ben Yedder, would cost less than 15 M since he is in his last year. He is a fox in the box and could be a good option of the bench.

Ozil would be at RM or City right now.
