Skysports (and ESPN) have joined in the Bailly talk.... http://www.skysports.com/football/n...-in-talks-to-sign-eric-bailly-from-villarreal
It worked out pretty well with Martial last time. Let's hope we get a repeat of that. Slowly but very surely, we're going to be looking like a proper Jose team: big and powerful. I dig that.
The one real "concern" as I see it with Bailly is that we'll have to deal with him being gone every other January with Ivory Coast to the African Cup of Nations. The next edition will take place next January 2017.
It's not really a problem, it's only 3-4 games in 2 seasons. Ferguson said that he doesn't buy African players also due to that reason, but no clubs (like Chelsea) were really affected in the past.
That's why I put concern between quote signs. It's more of an annoyance really more than anything else...
Most reports still claim that it should get wrapped up by the start of the Euros Friday. On a separate note, it would be a tremendous start of our transfer season to get Zlatan and Bailly both done so quickly as it will free us up to going after our other potential targets. Have to believe that Mourinho will want his team finalized (or close to it) and ready to go as early as possible.
If that's the Villareal center back, then this is a good signing. We'll lose him in the ACON in the winter, but he is your physical specimen, good on the ball, and very aggressive.
I love that no one knows who our transfer targets are and we purchase a very very good prospect. If we partner him with Smalling it'll be very good, I'd still get Manolas paired with Bailly. Stop mentioning Varela, he won't feature under Mourinho.
Is he good on the ball solely in terms of running out with it? From what little I've read, his distribution isn't wonderful. It may well be out of date though.
We'll see. Either way, I'm glad to see a bit more power, strength and size added to the squad. I've seen so little of him to really comment, but I like the profile. I'm tired of our hobbit like side.
