Since I wasn't able to attend the game due to the arrival of a new FCD fan :) , I thought I would at least get this thread started. As of halftime, it looks like we'll have another useless allocation, and a higher draft pick by the end of the night. Hopefully, we'll see a miracle, but the comments of the announcing team sure make this game feel like the same old, same old. For example:

"Ching scores! The first time he has scored since August ..... the last time SJ played Dallas."

"Corrales scores! His third of the season ..... all against Dallas."

"And SJ scores two goals in a game for the first time since .... the last time they played Dallas.

At least Chicago lost tonight, leading to a dead last finish and an increase in the value of the Countess draft pick.

At least this should help the cap problems for next year. This year New Enlgand used at least 1 allocation if not 2 to defray going over the cap. With the Etcheverry allocation from DC still available the added costs from O'Brien and Johnson should be manageable and still might allow for new signings.

Can we use allocation money for a new coach?

I'm feeling a strange mixture of pride and extreme disappoint. Pride that our boys showed up and played their asses off, and heads apparently for a few awful minutes. Disappointment that if we had seen more efforts like that we wouldn't be out of the playoffs.

Clarke's big challenge will be to assemble a team who can show at least 90% of the energy shown today week in and week out.

Probably the most entertaining game at home with a big library crowd and finally some goals. However a couple of minutes of weak defense (Reyes being torched sticks particularly in my mind) made it too much to overcome.
But baby we were oh so close with a couple of great chances towards the end of the game that we could not finish (sound familiar?). The crowd could taste it but instead we went home parched and thirsty. Still I remember the pitiful end to last season in Sucklake so in comparision this is palatable. We got Grown Ass Man, ROB, new stadium etc so come on spring 2005! In the meantime there is always FSW.

Yes...we have "Grown Ass Man," ROB, Gibbs, and Valakari. We need a few more players to get into the playoffs next season. God knows Oscar can't play forever...we've been looking for a replacement for him for years and no such luck.

For the record, the MetroStars, the team the person Harper was responding to supports, never missed the playoffs in consecutive years.

The Metros missed the postseason in 97, 99 and 02.

Teams that have missed the playoffs in consecutive years, besides the Burn, are San Jose (97-00), DC United (00-02), New England (98-99) and Kansas City (98-99).

So, Dallas is sending the Burn Era out in some good company!

Good game Burn. We were so rooting for ya. As for me personally, I will always be a Dallas Burn fan. Screw FC Dallas, but the Burn have a huge place in my heart. I'll collect Dallas Burn jerseys, items, and memories... but starting next year, you are FC Dallas. And my hatred will be fulfilled.

But until then, you are still the Dallas Burn.

Bless ya, boys. You played your hearts out and I thought I'd be drinking champagne because of your win tonight. Alas, it was not to be.

    LONG LIVE THE BURN

He did make a mistake but if it was all his fault how was it duplicated a few minutes later? Also, why were Gibbs and Jolley swapped at halftime? When outside backs go upfield they willget beat at times but someone is supposed to cover. Why does Dallas never do this?

Well, I finally got to go to a home game and it was pretty entertaining. My thoughts:

    The Good:
Eddie Johnson is a stud and will be a force in Europe (probably within the next two years). I love it when he took down Landycakes. That was funny as hell. Also, I enjoyed that Kreis still has the ability to provide service and prove his place out there on the field.

    The Bad:
Driving into Dallas (stupid state fair), trying to find parking (stupid idiot drivers), and inept security who wouldn't let us leave through one of the exits and forced us to turn around. Trying to get out of Dallas after the game was a nightmare. Can't say I would miss doing that whole experience again (and thank god I won't have to).

    The Ugly:
    Everything else.

I was happy that the Burn came out looking to win, but that passion dwindled halfway into the first half. That mental block cost the Burn dearly, and it never seemed like they were capable of responding. Even after they tied the game, they allowed SJ to dominate possession and played defensively rather than agressively. What ticked me off the most was the lack of desparation in Dallas during the last twenty minutes. When you need a goal, you should be looking to score on every run. I rarely saw that sense of urgency in the Burn, and it killed me that they couldn't force a game-winning
    goal.

On the bright side, the crowd was good sized, although they paid more attention to fireworks than the game on hand. And why the hell did the TV guys put the camera on the side of the field with the fewest fans? I have no idea how that translated on TV, but it seemed like a waste of a good crowd.

Which made seeing him being subbed out even harder. I was surprised the crowd didn't show more emotion for him in what was probably his last game for Dallas.

For those who missed seeing the game in person...it was a game filled with heart and effort, the boys did us proud. At the end of the game Oscar and Jason stepped forward and said a few words of appreciation and thanks to the fans for their 9 years of support. Then the Player Awards were handed out.
Inferno elected MVP - Ronnie O'Brien.
Burn appointed MVP - Simo Valakari.

so sad, its just so sad :(

We came out to win, scored first then looked lost. We play the same tired lineup and the same tired long balls to no one, the team made the same mistakes, basically it was the same sh!t, different day. We came up short at the end as we did all season, I really hate to see such a strong franchise go down like they did in the last 2 years, and its gonna be hard to let go to the Burn, the Cotton Bowl and the memories. Its like losing your first true love and being totally dissapointed about it.

But, as in life, time heals all wounds. The Burn are gone, we had some good times, we had some bad times. We had many memories, and we're going to make many more with FC Dallas. The book has closed but the new book is on its way...

I keep readin people were proud of the effort the team put forth. So is that all we have to cheer for anymore? You shouldnt be happy a team trying for a playoff spot put forth a good effort. That was a ************ game to watch, Dallas looked bad. This long ball attack is just utter garbage. And the marking is terrible. Reyes makes all this ill advised tackles and when he should have made a tackle at midfield he didnt, and they went down and scored. 3 mins later, he got beat again and the scored again. What the hell were we doing with 4 in the back till the 90th min? And why take out Pareja who was playing with a fire? Kreis should have been out, he is just done for. The coaching of this team leaves a lot to be desired in my opinion. If you watched the game, you noticed SJ dominated play when they passed the ball around, moved and cut and created space. Instead of doing this, which we did at the begininng of the year and won with it, we went to the long balls to the forwards, with no support and quickly turned over the ball. Oscar's goal was nice for history sake, but it was pretty garbage ball play. The result hides the real way the game went, with Dallas looking like a bad HS team for much of the game. The team also seems to have an inability to play quick balls and opposite field switches. I read someone complaining about Ronnie being whiny, which he was, but for good reason. SJ figured out that Dallas cant switch the ball without swinging it to someone in the middle. So the sunk off him, clogged the middle and took the ball. If and when Ronnie would get some service, he did positive things with it. This roster needs to make wholesale changes for next year, maybe bring in some people who can mark and have some creativity. That would be nice. I was glad to see the final efforts in extra time, but where was that around the 80th min? I will admit, I was going nuts when Kreis stepped over the free kick in the 90th min or so. I was imaging just how poetic it would be for him to score the goal that put us through on his patented free kick. But alas, it had neither the pace nor the accuracy we use to see from him.
I am a huge fan, just like everyone else on this board, but this team did not deserve the playoffs. Changes must be made next season, and hopefully we will have a product we can be proud of, and not have to say well at least they put out a good effort. This isnt u10's, just giving effort is not worth applauding in pro sports.

sea donkey do you not think Rob has a reason to be a little unhappy, here you have the creative force on the team and you have not got good enough players to get him the ball in the most inportant game of the season. so I would call him frustrated not a whiney baby. After the way he played this year this is all you can say about him, you must be a real fan.

Last night was a great night yet a sucky night {as well} The team came out pumped and EJ's celebration after his goal was very passionate! They were so close and didn't seem to know how to finish off SJ. The Burn were obviously appreciative of the fans. They were very nice to the fans after the game (even the ones who don't have a clue as to who they are) The post game speeches were heart felt and it seemed (to me) that they were saying goodbye to Dallas. JK9 and Oscar have so much heart and emotion and alot of pride for THEIR team! Several players commented about the signs and the passion the fans had. They were dissapointed that they didn't fight hard enough for the shirt. JK9 asked me where the FirstTackle First Foul First Goal words came from (thanks Northside) He said he used to say those same words all the time and was surprised to see them on the sign.
I for one will miss the CB but not the Fair traffic. I hope the fans come back to Frisco next year and are even more passionate!!!! Thank you Dallas Burn for 9 amazing years we appreciate all you have done for youth soccer in our area and look forward to the coming years. Thank you Infernites for welcoming us to your special group. It was great spending the last moments of Burn soccer chanting with ya'll. It was a pleasure meeting some new people as crazy as we are about soccer!!!!
NOW.....please use the YOU SUCK Allocation wisely and NEVER have to use one again!!
    GO FC DALLAS 96
