I don't know, but I don't think he would be an attacking midfielder.

I could see Rode as a right wing back for Dortmund if Tuchel really liked the 3-4-3/5-2-3, since Piszczek has been in decline and will be 31 next season. Rode has played 37 matches on the right side during his career.

I don't know what Dortmund would plan on doing with Rode, but he is versitale with a high motor and some decent technical ability. His time under Pep certainly hasn't hurt him. He could be used in a couple different positions at a high level.

I think he may be used as a bit of a cover for a potential back 3. We are discussing this on the Dortmund board that it looks as though Tuchel is planning to spend a lot of time with a back 3 (utilizing WB's), and potentially having Merino or another ball playing CB play in the middle of that dreierkette. Rode could then rotate in and out of the defensive midfield acting as additional coverage - essentially playing a hybrid role.

With a back 3 it's often easier to play somewhat lopsided - so there would be a need for a DM to rotate in and out of that deeper position. I'll admit I'm surprised to hear our interest in him.......

Can anybody who keeps up with Bayern II inform about the new youth recruits to the first team this season. The names I'm hearing are Benko (who iirc was pretty good last pre-season) and Dorsch? What are their best positions, strengths? Will they be able to contribute at all?

I would have no problem with that.

    --------------Neuer
    Lahm-Boateng-Hummels-Alaba
    ------------Kimmich
    --Thiago/Sanches---Vidal
    Robben/Coman---Müller/Costa
    ---------Lewandowski

    Hello trophies.

I highly doubt CA will prefer Kimmich over the experience and quality of Javi. Not to mention the possibility that he can play in midfield or in the back. Also, pretty sure Javi goes in to the new season as a starter, rather than Hummels being the automatic starter just because he was recently purchased. I'm of the opinion that Hummels needs to take the spot away from Javi.

While that's the ideal situation, Hummels will start alongside Boateng due to two reasons. The partnership that they have established so far as the CB pairing for Germany and the fact that Hummels was brought in to 'fix' the CB issue that we have been having so far.

Boa - Hummels at CB and Javi in front of them, I'll be glad with that.

I could see Martínez in Ancelotti's favored 4-4-2 paired with Vidal, just like the treble year with Schweinsteiger. I can't see Martínez as a distributor from the back.

Something like this could work very well to Ancelotti's preferred tactics.

    --------------Neuer
    Lahm-Boateng-Hummels-Alaba
    Robben-Martínez-Vidal-Coman
    -------Müller-Lewandowski

I like this lineup a lot... This is our strongest defensive lineup we could ever put out there. However I wouldn't rely on robbery anymore so I would start Coman instead and have robbery as super subs or rotations. The rest can rotate with Gotze, Thiago, Sanches, etc etc

I know CA won't play such a high line either but play a more pragmatic way like jupp which suits Martinez the best, which lead to one of the greatest defenses in football in 2013

Nothing wrong with that lineup just switch Coman with Costa

If Germany wins Euro and Kimmich as a CM plays big part in it then he will be a starter over Javi...remember Javi is now a shadow of 2013, always injured and dropped from Spain NT...
Javi has to earn his spot in starting XI under new coach

Throughout his career, Ancelotti always uses a play-maker at the 6 position, no matter what formation he sets up, with 1 or 2 pivots. He himself was a play maker, a strategist playing deep to dictate the play. So I doubt he will play the Javi-Vidal paring. Plus with Muller at the 9.5, our midfield will seriously lack creativity and distribution through the middle.

If Kimmich keeps up his development trend I would be very happy to see him play that role next season.

This is true but on the other hand Ancelotti will have 2 playmakers at the back (Boateng and Hummels). He did not have such luxury in any club he managed before. If Hummels-Boateng is our CB-pairing I don't think Ancelotti will necessary want a deep-lying playmaker as a 6. So I think Javi has a very decent shot to be our starting 6/DM if he is fit of course.

In that case it will look more like a back 3, with Martinez playing a little bit deeper rather than a true midfielder do you think? Base on his book, Ancelotti likes the idea of defending with a back 3, but he hasn't had chance to experiment it, sometime due to personnel, sometime due to situation.

He says we are having a winning formula, and he will be very careful not to make to many changes, so I still expect we start with a 4-4-2ish at the beginning. The interesting thing is how we play, and how much of our positional play and high pressing will be sacrificed for defensive stability.

It would be too hilarious if those 25m are true. Rode is good, but nowhere near 25m good. That would be an price tag that I expected when he would join an EPL team, but not Dortmund. lol.

Even if it's 15M, we're basically getting back the €€€ we overpaid to get Hummels. That was probably agreed in those negotiations, they had to appease their fans with the 35M.

I don't know why, even if Rode already said he will be patient this season when it comes to playing time - I can see him go to Dortmund in the future. Why? Because Kehl is about to stop his career and they'll need another player. Rode would fit in very well.

I am the freakin man when it comes to transfers, saw this coming years ago
