Please, not this. It rarely ends well with England youth sides being in a group with Nigeria...and in the past they've struggled with the very slow pace of play of South American teams. And the Japanese are always rather good. Oh. Ha ha! o_O

Well, if Paraguay is at the level where they were at last U-17 WWC, I can assure you that at least their slow South american pace won't be a problem at all... :cautious:

    FIFA revealed the pots

“The 16 teams have been divided into four pots according to their rankings in the four previous editions of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. The points scored by each team in each previous edition, from the most recent to the oldest, are taken into account. Five extra points have also been given to every team which has won their continental championship on the way to qualifying for this World Cup.

“The teams will be divided into four pots," she continued. "The first pot contains the teams which will be at the head of each group. These are the host country, Jordan, and the three best-ranked teams – current world champions Japan, as well as Germany and Korea DPR. In the second pot are Nigeria, Spain, Venezuela and Ghana. The third pot includes Canada, USA, Mexico and Brazil, and in the fourth are New Zealand, England, Paraguay, and Cameroon.

“As usual the draw will be carried out in order, from the first to the fourth pot and the teams will be distributed among Groups A, B, C and D, and each team will be given a number in its group from 1 to 4.”

Before the draw, it is important to remember that, according to FIFA rules, no group can include more than one team from the same football confederation

The fact that USA didn't even qualify for U-17 WWC 2014 make them quite a loose cannon in third pot... o_O

I cringe at the thought of a group including Japan, Nigeria, USA and England. :x3:

I'll guess the draw might turn out as follows:

GROUP A: Jordan, Nigeria, Canada, England
GROUP B: North Korea, Spain, USA, Paraguay
GROUP C: Germany, Ghana, Brazil, New Zealand
GROUP D: Japan, Venezuela, Mexico, Cameroon

That's a nice way to allocate the pots, and you can still easily separate countries from the same confederation. I wish they would use this method for all World Cups, men's and women's alike.

    I quote this.

Japan gets the easiest group, with USA that we have just beaten 5-0 in a friendly at U-20 level. :D

CARSON, Calif. (Feb. 15, 2016) – The U.S. Under-17 Women’s National Team defeated Japan 2-1. It's a damn shame that the US ladies can't win all of their games at every level.

Mod's note: No provoking with off-topic stuff. This thread is about the U-17 WWC.

That Group C though just isn't fair. Four powerhouses in one group.

    3. Mexico
    4. Jordan

    GROUP B
    1. Germany
    2. Venezuela
    3. Canada
    4. Cameroon

    GROUP C

    3. Nigeria
    4. Brazil

    GROUP D
    1. Japan
    2. USA
    3. Ghana
    4. Paraguay

    QUARTERFINALS
    Spain def. Venezuela
    North Korea def. USA
    Germany def. New Zealand
    England def. Japan

    SEMIFINALS
    Spain def. North Korea
    England def. Germany

    FINAL
    Spain def. England

Not sure if Brazil can be considered "a powerhouse" at this age-group, but I agree that it's by far the most difficult group (as much as group A is ridiculous for opposite reasons).

I'd take this now but why/how do you think England will beat a Germany team they were outplayed by in the recent UEFA U17 SF?

Group A seems really easy for Spain, while I see a close battle between Mexico and New Zealand. Jordan will lose all three matches.

Group B seems more balanced, although I still hope Germany finish first here. Hard to predict the two teams to advance from this group. Venezuela at U-17 level are very good, so they could do it again.

Group C is a very tough group, but only Nigeria and North Korea are powerhouses at this level. I expect them to progress.

Group D seems like a straight affair for Japan and the US, although Ghana are pretty good at U-17 level. I wouldn't be surprised if they get some points from the favorites.

Mexico is a pretty good team that made the US fight to the very end of both games during CONCACAF qualification, so I think that they will give Spain a decent battle. I can't comment on the other teams because I haven't had the opportunity to watch them play, but I based my standings on the teams previous history in the youth tournament.

Mexico were indeed pretty impressive last time, while New Zealand never progressed from the group stage, so I should give them more credit.

I admit I tend to underrate Mexico, because I am never amazed when I see them playing. But the results speak for themselves, so I should put them as a favorite here to progress among the top two of the group.

England are currently in training camp Monday to Friday as it is the school holidays, so the kids are available to train. They are in thier second week of that block of camp. They had more camps in June/July. I think they are really looking to go there and get a medal.

Sanchez and Tagliaferri are future members of the USWNT.
Kuhlmann may factor into that as well.

Her family name says that Tagliaferri is surely of Italian descent (my country :). For records: her family name means "Cut-Iron").
Although I had heard a lot about Sanchez, I didn't remember specifically hearing that Tagliaferri was also so good.

She could be Croatian. But then, my Nana from Croatia considered herself Italian and the borders of Italia flowed and ebbed over the centuries. Or, she -- Tagliaferri or my Nana -- could be Austro-Hungarian, too.

Anyway, the family name is obviously Italian, not Croatian or Austro-Hungarian. Of course, Croatia or Austria-Hungary included portion of Italian regions and people of Italian culture, in the centuries; anyway, Tagliaferri is definitely an Italian name, by language (not Slavic or Germanic at all! :p).
