Regular rotator for a top-half-to-EL-placed EPL side IMO. Not sure he'll become good enough for the CL teams. He doesn't offer enough going forward, (which is why he fits in at Sunderland ). First touch and crossing accuracy are weaknesses at the moment. We'll see how he gets on next season, when he has a full EPL pre-season under his belt. Then we can really judge.
Good work by Everton to roll over for the top and the bottom of the table! So long Roberto Martinez! Yedlin played well. Nice to get that experience in a relegation battle. Will be interesting to see what happens next year. Will he continue on loan at Sunderland?
No idea. I'd like him to give cracking Spurs' starting XI a good go, even if it's only to ensure that he'll have no regrets going forwards if he does move on. The fact that he's been good enough to cement a starting place for a dour pragmatist like Allardyce will have been noted by a slew of managers. He'll be playing in the EPL next season. The only question is for who.
Yeah - I don't think he's going to supplant Walker after this season, but you are right, it's been a good shopping window for him.
With the Champions League plus the usual domestic competitions, there will be plenty of games available for Yedlin to play in if he goes back to Spurs. No harm in giving it a shot if they'll have him as the backup RB.
I tend to agree although I'd add, while touch is developed young and there will be minimal improvement in his 20's, crossing and final 3rd execution most certainly can be improved over the next couple years. Crossing can be improved thru repetition and hard work, execution should improve thru experience as the game slows down mentally. As for EPL CL level, not sure about starter but could he do what Trippier now is, the #2 on a top club? Possibly. Trippier was a C'Ship player thru 24, only got the Spurs transfer a little prior to his 25th birthday. If Dre were to get another two full years of EPL ball under his belt he'd then be 24. But who knows, there's an outside shot Spurs will be impressed with what Dre's done this 2nd half, he impresses in preseason and they decide to go with him as the #2 and sell Trippier due to Dre's upside and that he has more EPL experience now than Trippier which counts when considering squad rotation with UCL. Still, long term I'd say a full season of EPL starts would be the better route.
Was really sour about him going to Sunderland, have to say it appears to have been a pretty nice loan for him. Interested in seeing what happens next for him
Amazing that they stayed up again. They looked dead in the water multiple times throughout the season, but props to Sam for turning them around. I also hope Dre gets hammered tonight because he's earned it.
Some clubs seem to enjoy being relegation fodder. Surviving. Instead of actual rebuilding things to insure it doesn't happen again. This is Sunderland
Why would they rebuild, this is like thier league title, year after year they are competing for this?
I admit it possible I am seeing what I want to see, but it appears he is setting a nice upward trend both offensively and defensively. I think as he gains tactical nous and adjusts to the speed of the game that his offense might improve simply because he is not on the ball worrying about what he has to do if things go awry. He will just simply go play. Not think, not react, just go play and see the game in front of him. It looks to me as if he is on the cusp of becoming a very good footballer. I did catch myself wondering if he could show enough to get regular minutes as a squad guy at Spurs, and would it be better for him there or somewhere else as an almost auto starter.
It was a good performance, but Yedlin crosses were quite poor, compared to what he's capable otherwise. His communication with the guys on his side, Kone, Borini and M'Vila, was very good. His dribbling average, not enough for an upper-half of the table at this point. His runs were precise, very good at going forward and tracking back, passing still iffy. Overall, his best game, but as the Italians say, "una rondine non fa primavera," so let's see how he evolves the next year.
This was absolutely not his best game. It was the best game for the club sure, but not in terms of his individual performance.
Is he most likely to head out on loan next season as well? With Walker back I would assume so, but Im not a Spurs fan so I dont know the whole story. Hopefully he has a good Copa America, and that along with him having a fairly good season on a bad team allows him to go to a non relegation threatened team next year. Though I wouldnt be surprised if Sunderland wanted him back . I personally thought he improved a lot this year. The offense will come in time with him I think, though it would help if Sunderland could of used him on the counter more often.
I think it was, and S'land fans seem to agree. Unlike other times, he didn't allow crosses from his side. On the other hand, Everton was playing bored. PS: The real esoteric version of the dictum is the Latin version, una hirundo non facit ver. Should put that on my coat of arms.
Yedlin's going to hit 20 starts next week. If there was one goal for him it was to gain that crucial experience. By golly, he did it.
I wouldn't mind if he stayed. He is 22 and getting a lot of PT in the BPL... sure, its not a glamour spot but it's BPL football week in and week out. It would suck for him to go back to Spurs and be rooted to the bench.
Off topic and kinda creepy I guess, but did anyone else notice that DY got oral surgery done? 2 months ago: https://www.instagram.com/p/BC3S1FQGGHl/ Today: https://www.instagram.com/p/BFSAKGNmGCa/
Agreed. Look at the progress he's made under BSA. He may plateau and require a change to a more attacking oriented coach in the future but I think another year under BSA would lock in the good habits defensively.
Another year at Sunderland would do him well. He's their best rightback, playing against good sides, playing under Big Sam. He's clearly improving.
