I've seen much worse from us in Champions league semi finals gone by. I was impressed by the professionalism and focus. Nil nil is not a horrible result, and it was not a poor display. We were unfortunate to lose two key players. The defence and midfield were excellent. Lucas and Jesé did a good job but they aren't going to get you goals. Sorry but it was only Bale who disappointed for me, he should have led that front line better.
Some of ya'll are criticizing us but how horrible was city. They played a shit game. Total shit. Nothing team.
Not too delighted with this result to be honest. I'm not sure we can expect Madrid to not concede in the second leg as well, meaning they have to win in regulation to progress. Another draw, except with goals will get Madrid eliminated, no extra time, penalties etc in that scenario. Anything other than a 0-0 result better be a win in Madrid's favor.
Zidane has made clear by now who he considers for what position. ST: Jese LW/RW: Vasquez MF: Isco/James/Kovacic I don't understand why James or Isco couldn't come on for Vasquez in the last 30 minutes. We were playing a possession game and Vasquez was spent. This rigid substitution policy is going to come back to bite him. James/Isco should be first off the bench, no reason either of them can't play a winger position.
Agree to disagree then cause I didn't like the sub one bit, Jese to me looked like a player just going through the motions while providing nothing. Zidane definitely needs to work on making subs because so far he has me baffled with them.
i dont understand why isco was subbed on so late. it's obv that kroos cant go the entire 90. why not sub in isco to get more creativity in the final 3rd? seems that was logical but leaving him late to the 88? poor coaching imo
Lol at the commentators creaming over Hart's Pepe shot save. It was slammed from close range directly into his chest, didn't have to move an inch.
I kind of got that move too. Lucas wasn't doing much offensively, but he was doing a lot off the ball on both ends. KdB was their only danger man and doubling up on him with Lucas and Dani made sense. He almost got away late in the game too. I think Zidane's subs (and the ones he didn't make) made sense today, with the exception of Isco maybe. Also, tacitcal adjustment to move Bale in the middle and Lucas out right was effective.
Don't forget Casemiro's header which was heading straight into the net but hart managed to stretch his left leg just enough.
What would you have done differently? Saying this is a bad result sounds more of an emotional reaction to be fair. Imagine this from City's perceptive. I'm sure they won't be very confident knowing they couldn't create against a sloppy Madrid at home.
I don't understand you guys anymore. We didn't lose it.We haven't conceede a goal. At our home, we'll have Ronaldo. 1-0 or 2-1 will work for us. Bitch off!
Pepe and Ramos were quite good. Pepe was a beast, and Ramos played more of a sweeper role (and was very composed).
City for being the home team where pretty mediocre if we have a healthy squad ready for the next leg then we should beat them.
20/20 is hindisght sure, but isco coming on that late? bleh. at a certain point, rm should have scored. a couple more creative balls would have done the front 3 a lot better. i think that was the biggest problem.
Hart got lucky on the 2nd save although he did everything right. First save was great. We all knew he was awesome and would be a big factor. Post match Hart: "looks like it's gonna be an old fashioned rumble in the bernaBOW". Lol.
