Injuries are inevitable, but even without them I think we will see him in the 18 come summer when we need to start giving Pontius, Ilsinho, and SLT regular rest.
He looked better than Leo in the Bethlehem game and they are still playing him at left wing. Gives a pacey winger option that would add a different element to the attack.
Were not Fernandes and Restrepo both we're about the same level player in NASL. It would follow that they were roughly the same player at the MLS level.
They were still pressing for a goal and got it. My only point was that he's contributing. And if you're coming off the bench what else are you supposed to do?
I said I was quibbling. He definitely looked bright. I'd just like to see it when he's 11v11 and the opposition hasn't quit.
Once Barnetta is cleared to play, Fernandes will drop down to Beth full time to help Burke and work on his game. Guy has never been a wing for me. Hopefully he'll stay where he belongs and grow to be ready when the contracts of those above him expire. Union may well see Restrepo and Ayuk out wide again before the season ends.
I'm just happy that our depth is playing well enough that we can talk about them playing as actual starters. When Edu, Nogs, and Barnetta come back we'll see Fernandes, Creavalle, and Carroll pushed deep to the bench, but they've all played well enough. We're gonna have a sick 5-man midfield though.
These things usually resolve themselves. Carroll's leg will fall off or Creavalle will break someone's ankle and get suspended. Best to let it play out.
Crevalle has been terrible IMHO. Time and again he has been at fault or partially at fault for goals. His weak attempt at defense was just one of the problems that lead to the goal, although blaming him is harsh since most of that is on Yaro. My opinion on Edu, is that he plays to the level around him, he has a problem dictating play. It means when the team sucks, he sucks, but as this team has gotten better he isn't going to be the weak link like some of our other problems. but again that is my opinion, and I know I seem to be in the minority in this opinion.
Sorber hinted last week on the KYW Podcast that Edu might come in as a CB. He said that although Edu wants to play DM, they will need to figure out the best place to play him. Sorber said that although the tests show that Edu is on track for a return, it's the same injury that Jermaine Jones had that took him far more than 3-4 months to return from. In my opinion, it all depends upon how the team is playing and what injuries it has if and when Edu is ready to return. By mid-season, either Creavalle and Carroll may have stepped up to be the starting DM or one or both of them could be injured. Same goes at CB. If Yaro or Tribbett cannot cut it in the long run, it may be preferable to pair Edu with Marquez in the back. If Marquez were to get injured, Edu likely would come back as a CB.
