I'm inclined to agree with this for the sake of meshing with Ozil, at least as something to try out. His current position and the fact that he wants the ball to feet means that he doesn't create enough dangerous situations for the other team.
So, lately we've been linked with Raphael Guerreiro, Granit Xhaka, and now Henrikh Mkhitaryan. How many of these will come to fruition?
We can't sign more than four players this summer from other leagues because of the 17 player rule. Nonhomegrown players that we have on the books: Mertesacker Gabriel Koscielny Rosicky Arteta Ozil Giroud Ospina Alexis Nacho Cazorla Flamini Elneny Debuchy Sanogo Cech Campbell Rosicky, Arteta, Flamini, and Debuchy are all likely to leave this summer. That means we have four spots for fresh blood. Could probably flog off Sanogo and Campbell and add two more spots pretty easily as well.
The Xhaka rumor seems to have legs. Sport Witness @Sport_Witness Bild say, according to their own information, Xhaka is off to Arsenal for £35m. #AFChttp://sportwitness.ning.com/forum/topics/star-moving-to-arsenal-for-35m-in-summer-transfer-window …
Lukaku or Aubameyang should be targets. i could be talked into getting rid of walcott and cambell and get Gotze in here. trim the fat of these guys who are just not going to win titles. (flamini, mertesacker, gibbs, rosicky, etc)
According to Guardian, Arsenal is monitoring Mkhitaryan as well as Granit Xhaka in order to rebuild the MF. http://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/mar/30/arsenal-dortmund-henrikh-mkhitaryan-midfield
Always enjoy the term "monitoring!" As if checking a guy's stats and watching some highlight reels means exclusive and insightful attention paid to one player. Especially when applied to an already popular/prominent player! By most measures every team has been "monitoring" Lionel Messi, Pogba, Zlatan... Anyway, if given any weight I like the calibre of player considered but am now starting to question the possible line-up with the many names being offered. If both Henrikh and Xhaka were landed are we assuming Santi or Coq plays less, making way for one of these summer signings?
It is, imo, more realistic to write off Santi as a full time player. I'd bet that players who return from serious layoffs at his age do not do well on their return. There are too many things that can go wrong with re-injury or incomplete recovery, especially when Santi would struggle if he lost any quickness.
not sure ospina will stay either, so maybe 5 slots if we get a homegrown keeper or bring back szcezza. That's plenty: 1) striker 2) RW 3) CM 4) CM 5) CB Assuming we can't fill any of those slots with a homegrown or under 21.
I liked the name Phishy. Did you dump it because you wanted something related to your favorite team more than your band?? p.s. Years ago I changed my handle as well, but more subtlely... dropping the "74" suffix which originally I had to use. p.p.s. Where've you been? And what brought you back to BigSoccer?
Don't think Wenger saw him as anything more than stopgap. If only because Cazorla is 30. But Cazorla did an excellent job in that role.
I don't know about mikhi but I wouldn't say no Griezman or fekir would be preferable We do need a mobile striker of quality though
