Any of you insiders know what became of our draft picks? The roster @ MLS,com still shows 27 of 28 spots filled.

I haven't seen anything, but I would prefer that if the player isn't bench/start ready when coming to the team from the draft. they go directly to RGVFC for training.

Dynamo co-owner Oscar De La Hoya appeared on ESPN FC's Bootroom segment during the Friday episode. He spoke about his discussions with Gabriel Brenner about acquiring more Mexican players to better reflect Houston's diverse population, Erick Torres is rounding into form, his son's newfound love of footy and that he feels the Dynamo will compete for the league title and possibly make the title match.

Surely some eagle eye can figure out who's in the photo (that we know to ID), including whether our draft picks are there.

It occurs to me RGV straight out of the gate may be an easier sell to 18 year old HS graduates than college players, who being later in their life and perhaps deeper in debt, may hold out for the best landing spot they can find since it might be career terminal. They would probably be more open to the vagarity of "Dynamo-loaned-RGV" where reality is less painful. Or simply trying their luck again elsewhere rather than starting their pro career in the minors, one foot on a banana peel already.

The Dynamo would of course see it different, they want the most ready, talented, or in demand on the first team and to use RGV for those not as immediately ready, talented, or in demand.

De La Hoya hasnt done crap so why try and mess with it now. How bout just field a winning team? I dont want any fans there just to see one player because he happens to be hot or is a Mexican (Boniek, etc.). Please dont chase that ghost. Although I am against signing players just to meet some demographic goal, if we are going to do it, lets look beyond Mexicans.

I think he donated some cash to get Dynamo fans to the cup in LA one year, but if it wasnt for that I would despise the guy.

He begrudgingly paid for one bus. Forced cameras in front of people at 4AM, and only did it after petitions were started and he blocked me on Twitter. He also only did it to combat his bad media image due to that cocaine/cross-dressing fiasco.

I couldn't hear the podcast, but does he really think we have the players to conquer MLS?

And Cubo Torres, our Mexican star, is rotting on the bench.

PS I didn't post the worse pictures, this will suffice:

Early returns are good. Who knows where we will end up but we are entertaining and fighting hard out there. Mindset seems different

We'll get a better look at how good we really are on this road trip coming up. Even last year, we looked pretty good at home at times (3-0 against LA anyone?).

I know Calle Brown has been on the bench covering in case Willis gets hurt.

I imagine Casner and Magalhaes will be playing with RGVFC until they get call ups. (See my post in the RGV thread)

I don't think we have to imagine. There was a team picture of the Toros on FB from a Dynamo game, were they in the photo? Do people remember seeing either Ivan or TJ with RGV at the game?

I would think if we were mixed bag on them like a taxi squad footballer they'd have been signed straight to Toros, with an announcement, and not just disappear. I'd instead assume since there was no word, that they are gone or that they were offered only a trial with RGV. I can't believe if we imagined a continuing relationship with them, that we'd just let it drop like we did.

I think we left the spots open for Plan B. It's two roster spots and an international slot and you can only dress 18. We are accumulating some injuries (and there will be callups) where that may be tested. But for now, we don't need more than 20-21 people as a practical matter.

The more I think about it the more this system seems to be set up for 18 year old kids and not 23 year old college grads. An 18 year old with no debt who would otherwise make $8/hr at McD's can take a risk and sign at a low rung and think he might climb his way up regardless of what happens at RGV. Another team, so be it. Another job, so be it. College if it doesn't work out. Life ahead of me. College kid with student loan debt? Not so much. College kid knowing this could be the terminal destination of his career may not accept a $30k job a rung below where he thought it would start. Some might, some might not. Dynamo of course have their own criteria and concerns, meritocracy, demand for a player on the market.

So the more I think about it, you'd want college kids to at least be first team material even if they get a seasoning loan down to RGV. But I'd think RGV is more meant for academicians or people of similar age. They are going to benefit more from that jump than someone who was already playing tons of playing time in seasons ending with Stanford in the College Cup.

    I agree.
The bold is what I am about specifically when letting our young area talent know ahead of time how their pro career just might go.

Dude, I just now saw this, so if I reply I know it will sound like hindsight after 2 games, but here goes...

I did say on Twitter that there was a lot of negativity, I think I might have been referring to the bloggers on KeeperNotes. Actually, I agreed with a lot of their assessment and fears but I didn't see any reason to rank them extremely low, like some of them did. I could see a fifth place, but I honestly could see first, second or third too. I know that sounds crazy and "orange colored glasses" like, but with a little luck this team could do it I think.

First, a lot was written and said about the crash of MLS out of CCL, and a lot of the blame was placed on aging, slow DPs and stars. The Dynamo went another direction, we are young, fast, and for the most part not stars (one young DP, one older but youthful and fast). I think it's going to pay off.

Then, I've seen a lot of trainings, scrimmages, and interviews. Several things stand out. These guys are really good, they play hard and have a lot of skill, speed and heart. They also are having a lot of fun this year, and that was true even before the first 2 games. They support each other, every single one of them, and they all seem to really love playing for Coyle.

Speaking of having fun, I've told a lot of people that Cubo looks like a different player this year. He looks happy, jokes around with other players, is much more vocal, and encourages other players. He's also made a lot of goals in trainings and scrimmages, which just didn't happen last year.

Also, the team has depth. I know that was a buzz word last year that didn't really pan out. But I think if you replaced the starters with someone else off the bench, the team would still be competitive. Manotas, Cubo, Miranda, Boniek, Steinberger, Rocha, Agús, Willis, Lovejoy, Mansally, that's a pretty damn good team.

A lot of people complain about Coyle but I think he's done a good job. Last year there were times when I questioned some of his game time decisions, but for the most part they worked out, and I have a lot of confidence in him this year. I think he learned a lot about MLS last year and that will pay off for the team this season.

And finally, it's not just Dynamo writers that have low expectations of us. No one expects anything from us, and that's a good thing. Wenger and Manotas have gotten some attention, as has Giles, but for the most part we are unknown. I like that. Slipping under the radar is a good thing.

That's it. We'll see how it goes. I know I am eternally optimistic. But I do think there is plenty of reason for optimism this year. And however the season goes, I guarantee the team will be fun to watch.
